TRI has been working in this field for decades and has really been at the forefront of implementing evidenced based practices and services in the substance abuse arena. I have worked with TRI over much of my career in the benefits field, and the services they provide, while critical, are always delivered in an extremely professional yet caring manner. The decisions they make with regard to their health benefits for their employees are always a reflection of their deep seated desire to take care of their staff since they take care of so many others. TRI has been doing important and informative research for many years -they have been at the forefront odds many positive changes in the field
I am so impressed with the innovative and important work being conducted at TRI. The organization has been a leader in changing the way that addiction is managed by the healthcare system – and the way that it is understood by the general public. Thanks to the work of Tom McLellan, Abigail Woodworth and others at TRI, we now know that addiction is a treatable, medical disease, similar to hypertension. This research alone has massively changed the way addiction is understood and treated throughout the world. But TRI has also been a leader in changing policies and calling for improvements to the treatment system. As a donor, I am confident that TRI is using my contribution to make a significant difference in the field.
I have served as a Board member for the Treatment Research Institute for the last four years. This has given me direct knowledge of the evidence-based high quality research they do, which translates into solutions that have high impact in the populations served. TRI has consistently been at the forefront in the field of addiction, resulting in a positive change regarding how substance abuse is viewed, especially at a national level. The commitment, sincerity, and integrity of TRI leadership are very present in all their decisions and relationships, including how actively the organization involves its Board members.
I have been involved in a number of non-profit as well as for-profit boards and many organizations in United States and Europe. Treatment Research Institute is one of a kind in the area of applying research principles and observations in the field of addiction treatment into actual clinical modalities within the treatment field. TRI develops tools and moves them into practice through the TRI Solutions group. Another major impact that they have had in the field has been treatment for children and a parents center for the whole issue of the addict and their loved ones.
The other board members are highly respected members within the field. The relationship between the board and the management is vibrant and functions as a major aspect of the success of this Institute.

TRI has been working on the very important issue of implementing evidence based practices in substance abuse treatment, developing prevention messages, and educating the public about the health consequences of this disorder. This work is very important in view of our national problems relating to substance use disorders and our efforts to get more individuals into treatment that need it.
TRI has been at the forefront of science-based advances in the substance addiction field for more than two decades. One of its founders developed the Addiction Severity Index, a now standard tool in the field for matching each client with the type of treatment that scientific evidence indicates has the greatest likelihood of success for that individual; the other founder has led in the development of clinical testing strategies of therapies for addictions to specific substances. TRI scientists have created a range of evaluation tools, including tools for: monitoring treatment outcomes, evaluating the effectiveness of specific components of drug courts; and for assessing the interactive effects of patients' substance use and addiction on a range of medical diseases, conditions, and their pharmacological therapies. TRI also explores points of unconventional interventions, such as developing service delivery strategies for schools, workplaces, and housing. In a field where progress has been stubbornly obstructed, TRI remains a committed leader and innovator.
TRI has worked tirelessly for over two decades to improve substance abuse treatment in this country. The organization has done more to change the way addiction is understood and cared for than any other research group I know. They lead the charge to change things for the better through their research and policy work - but also by educating the public about the disease and what can be done to treat it more effectively. Thank you, TRI!
