In 2014 my husband and I were married in Westchester County, New York. We entered into a contract with the Director of Treasurehouse Music to provide organ music and a female vocalist for the wedding. We had a vision for our Nuptial Mass that included beautiful music and a soloist performing moving renditions of the Servant Song and the Ave Maria. We do not live in NY, so we relied upon the recommendation of the church music director who had previous dealings with the Director of Treasurehouse Music and described this individual as a professional who only dealt with high quality, professional singers. Our experience was in direct contrast to what we were told.

The organ music performed by the Director of Treasurehouse Music was acceptable, the soloist, however, was a disaster and obviously not a professional singer. This individual is unable to sing. She was not on key and her voice wavered and was extremely nasal – it was painful to listen to her trip her way through the Ave Maria. Their presence at our wedding cast a pall over the ceremony and was an extreme embarrassment. Having entered into a formal contract with the Director of Treasurehouse Music, we viewed the performance as a failure to deliver on the contract. In our view, the Director of Treasurehouse Music let us down both professionally and personally.

If you are considering hiring the Director of Treasurehouse Music, insist upon on an in-person audition or, if you are from out-of-town, a YouTube audition video. Also, insist upon the same for anyone the Director of Treasurehouse Music will be providing, and insist upon a written listing of those individuals’ credentials. Be sure to request references from recent references.
