Mission: Providing connections and solutions that prevent or address crisis.
Programs: Crisis assistance includes referrals for placement in shelters for single women and families with children assistance to victims of domestic violence, including out-of-county transportation to places of safety as well as local transportation and providing bus passes and day passes to chronically homeless clients for verified medical or employment appointments. The organization also runs a senioride program to assist low-income seniors 60 with a variety of transportation options including taxi-cabs, senior bus passes, door-to-door transit services, and ride-sharing or volunteer drivers to allow seniors to age in place while combating the isolation that may accompany the choice to stay in their own homes.
visitor services includes providing information and referral services at the airport, cruise ship terminal, and train station, assisting visitors to the region with finding hotels, attractions, restaurants, and providing help navigating todays complicated transit center rules and procedures. The organization has approximately 340 active volunteers who also provide meet and greet including curb to gate escort services to wounded veterans and active duty military, along with their families.
I am a female veteran with PTSD and recent domestic abuse who was denied help by this organization. I requested a bus ticket to a VA treatment facility in Oregon for which I was accepted. I have verifiable proof of my situation and that housing is part of my program. Yet I was denied. Does this organization have something against female veterans that they would behave this way? I am appealing this decision to management. We'll see if they'll step up to the plate and support the troops or not.
I volunteer for Traveler's Aid by working at San Diego International Airport every Saturday night. I am one of 350+ volunteers. Every 4 hour shift I help about 75-100 travelers who need guidance or assistance or sometimes just a friendly place to vent their frustrations from a day of travel. It is a wonderful group of people to work with. I have been doing it for about 4 years and wouldn't change a thing! We work closely with the Harbor Police, the various airlines, hotels, transportation companies, and others. Interested in helping? Contact them!!
