Tomten is comprised of extremely honorable, compassionate, detail oriented and experienced individuals who are relentless in providing the best life possible to animals in need. They truly practice active hope - I'm very critical of some rescues but Tomten continues to impress me with their transparency and decisions grounded in kindness. Thank you Tomten for leading the way!

I've been following Tomten on Facebook for awhile because it allows me to vicariously enjoy visits with horses and ponies, cows, goats, sheep, llamas, pigs, chickens, rabbits, and cats living pampered and safely in the North country of New Hampshire. I've been able to visit once to seen the animals in person and see their well kept homes. I wish all animals had humans that put them first like the humans at Tomten do. I highly recommend supporting them.

I was first attracted to learn more about Tomten Farm and Sanctuary because it was located in the farm country of northern New Hampshire. I was hoping to see unwanted farm animals being rescued and treated with care and compassion. That's exactly what is happening! I follow the updates on their Facebook page and have visited to experience seeing and touching the animals in person. It is clear that each animal receives daily attention and the entire facility is well cared for to benefit the needs of each species. There's transparency about the management and expenses, and the future plans for the sanctuary. I feel that the animals there are living their best life thanks to the great staff and facility!
Being an armchair farmer, I have lived every day of wonder with the team. The extremely well done photos and gentle stories bring the farm and its residents into my home.
The team is conscientious and transparent with communications and I am never at a loss about where my donation has been used.
Well done, Tomten!

Visited with a friend for the Immersion Tour last Saturday (September 21st 2024) and was blown away by how well thought-out and organized everything was at the farm. They think of everything! The animals look so happy and comfortable. The hard work of all involved is evident, with abundant love and thoughtfulness tucked around every corner. I loved how interactive it was, being encouraged to feed the residents treats and taught how to approach them. Very educational! Plan to return and find ways to support. This place is full of love and intent to make the world better by taking care of creation and vulnerable creatures. Can't say enough of how much I enjoyed this tour and this place. Five Stars!!
My visits to Tomten Farm and Sanctuary over the years have always been a delight. The grounds are impeccable. The barn/stalls/work areas are always organized and clean. The outdoor living for the animals is paradise with each species enjoying their own space where they're safe. The medical care is phenomenal. Taking in animals, some whom have been abused or neglected requires much attention. They must be monitored regarding the food they require and the meds they need for their daily comfort. And we're not even talking vet visits! Observing how the Tomten rescues are cared for and loved is not to be believed and it could not be done without the endless hours that Jen and the volunteers put in each and every day. Ten years since they first began which equals 521 weeks or 3,650 days and countless hours that have been unselfishly given and this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the details required to keep Tomten at the highest of standards through every season. One leaves knowing that each and every sweet soul is beyond fortunate to call this home. Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a very special place and also has the highest consciousness level of anywhere I've ever been!!

A special place full of wonder....Here, over 75 fortunate animals share the love of the volunteers who care for them with such kindness, it almost hurts. One can see it on every face, every gentle nudge and every expression of glee. If you want to feel this special energy, you must travel there and experience it for yourself. You will leave with a heart bursting and a sensitivity to life that will change you forever.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a beautiful place of Peace, Protection and Possibility. Horses, donkeys, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, alpacas, cats and rabbits find refuge and a forever home in its impeccably & lovingly maintained environment. The special people of Tomten Farm walk the talk of recognizing each animal as an individual whose quality of life matters. Their educational tours, workdays and trainings has given me the opportunity to witness firsthand the dedication, passion and commitment of the remarkable, hard working Founder and Board to provide the highest standard of care. As a monthly contributor, I feel a deep connection to bringing “peace, protection and possibility” to the souls in their extraordinary care.
Took the Sanctuary immersion Tour. What a fantastic experience! The people who run this place provide what can only be described as paradise for animals who have lost their homes or come from deplorable conditions. They teach kindness and tolerance. To say they create this oasis operating on a shoestring is an understatement. As a former nonprofit executive, I can tell you, there's not a better place for your donor dollars.
Tomten is a magical place of peace and tranquility for animals that have reached the end of the line. At Tomten, they live a life of peace, love and safety until the end of their days. As a charity, Tomten is transparent, ethical and forthcoming, always putting the animals first. This is an animal rescue group deserving of everyone’s consideration.
I have yet to visit Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in person, but nevertheless feel very much a part of the whole. Wonderful informative posts, photos and videos daily connect followers/supporters to its good works. This non-profit welcomes animals in need into lifetime peace, loving care and kindness. Dedicated volunteers/professionals work 24/7 to meet specific physical, medical and psychological needs. The transformational power of absolute kindness is hard at work here, healing and restoring bodies and minds. This sanctuary is truly also a journey of hope, hope for a better world where all life species have value and worth. ----

Supporting this organization is promoting compassion towards all life and choosing to contribute to a kinder, more gentle world.
I became aware of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary of New Hampshire when a dear friend passed away about a year ago. My friend and her husband had been involved with Tomten for years. They clearly were passionate about the organization. Her husband continues to be involved and supportive. Being a lover of animals myself, the philosophy of Tomten spoke to me and I started following the organization on Facebook. I have become an avid follower of their almost daily contributions to Facebook. The daily posts are wonderful to read and the photographs and stories of the animals and farm have brought the farm to life for me. I look forward to learning about the different rescues each day and to learn about what makes this remarkable organization a place of "potential, peace and possibility" for the more than 75 rescues. I have not been able to visit/volunteer physically, but hope to next spring. The Facebook posts along with the videos and photographs will make your heart sing!
What a wonderful organization with truly dedicated individuals! I have visited the farm twice and was so impressed with the level of care and concern for each animal. The knowledge of the people working here is impressive. I donate monthly to this fantastic cause and am proud to support their efforts.
Every animal here is treated with dignity, respect and compassion ...from the smallest chicken and bunny to the largest pig, cow, and horse ... and everything in between. And, including their wild neighbors.
The residents get to live out their best lives grazing the fields with their friends and rolling in the grass til their hearts are content. They are lovingly groomed by their human friends. They have a buffet of grains, hay, minerals and treats to meet their individual dietary needs.
Some may have endured lives in less than favorable conditions, or found themselves victims of unfortunate circumstances .... but all have been gifted a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary to live out the rest of their days treated with kindness and receiving the impeccable care they deserve.
And even more admirable than the Board's tremendous dedication to giving these creatures the best lives possible is their unwavering promise to also give them a dignified passing when they are ready to go. Noone suffers a minute longer than necessary in order to ease the humans feelings. Every possible recourse is tried to give them the best quality of life, but when those efforts are in vain, and the resident has made it clear they have endured enough and are ready to go, they are gifted with the ultimate final act of love and respect with a peaceful, merciful passing on a beautiful day surrounded by their friends. In life, and death, it is always about what is best for that individual life.
And if you're lucky enough to spend time here and to interact with these amazing souls, both animal and human, you too will feel the Peace, Protection and Possibility that is offered.
As an ardent follower, a donor and a volunteer I am truly in awe of the Board and their dedication. The time and care given to every animal to meet their specific needs. The thought and planning that goes into every decision and task. Their passion for, and their commitment to, both the mission and every life in their care. Their unwavering efforts to be transparent in all parts of sanctuary life, sharing the happy and the sad. Providing unlimited insight into all aspects of daily life as well as hosting educational opportunities. The founder, Jen, and the entire volunteer Board are truly remarkable and I am honored to know them and to get to volunteer my time alongside them.
Tomten is an amazing place. I visited several years ago and my parents go more regularly to volunteer. They have figured out amazing and efficient systems for both running the sanctuary and managing finances and volunteers. Everything is thoughtfully done and they communicate clearly and often with supporters. I always feel completely confident that my donations are used wisely. Jen, the head of the farm, is so knowledgable and intuitive about animals and their care. I LOVE TOMTEN!
I love Tomten Farm Sanctuary. I have never visited Tomten but I am well aware of the devotion those ladies have. It is a home that offers love, care peace and protection to all that are under their many roofs. Their devotion to their charges is way beyond a soft place to land after a difficult situation. It is love and care for as long as they may need it and a peaceful goodbye when it is warranted.
I have volunteered at a similar place. It is their understanding of what an animal needs to feel safe that I admire and the hard work that goes into providing that care and understanding.

I have never visited Tomten Farm but if i did I would hug every one of the wonderful people associated with this rescue.
They are a truly dedicated, hard working, caring group of people.
Tomten Farm is extremely well run by a dedicated, smart, thoughtful, hard-working Board of Directors that strategically partners with neighbors, other non-profits, veterinarians, the public, and of course their donors. I recently visited the farm for the first time and was so impressed with the care and thought and hard work invested in providing the best possible life for the animals. The barns and indoor spaces are sturdy, airy, and clean. Clean. Fences are well built; there is a lot of green space outdoors for animals to enjoy. No detail is overlooked for the physical, mental and emotional health of the animals fortunate enough to be there. During my visit I was also impressed with the thoughtful care toward both visitor and animal safety. As both a business person and an animal lover, I feel really good about supporting this organization.
I have been following Tomten Rescue and Sanctuary on Facebook for over a year. The love, care, and compassion from the Board & staff can be seen radiating from each and every animal that is posted on Facebook! Just seeing the posts and pictures always makes my heart happy! However today I took my very first live tour of Tomten! This was even more BEAUTIFUL and MAGICAL in person!! The Board & staff are PHENOMENAL, AMAZING, KNOWLEDGEABLE, most CARING individuals and the babies (animals) couldn’t be in better hands! Thank you Tomten for ALL you do!! LOVE TOMTEN RESCUE & SANCTUARY!!! ❤️
I came across Tomten's facebook page a few years ago. Over this time, I have observed such love and dedication to each and every one of the animals at this sanctuary. I will probably never have the opportunity to visit Tomten but with the engagement of the Tomten team with their facebook followers I feel like I visit them every day! There is no question for me that Tomten is a FIRST CLASS sanctuary and rescue and all of the animals in their care are happy and thriving!

Second visit to Tomten for myself and first for my husband. We were lucky enough to attend the 10th anniversary of Tomten, where we were able to see, in person, the true beauty of the surroundings, the beloved animals and the amazing women that care for them.
Jen is so enjoyable to listen to as she explains the love, work and attention each and every animal in their care receives every single day. The day to day care is given by the small team of all volunteer, all female board members and it's inspiring! The whiteboards with each animal and their needs, the buckets labeled with speciality diets, the room with its neatly organized medications, the immaculate barn and pastures- it's incredible.
The love for these animals that arrive, scared, malnourished and unwanted shown by each caretaker is apparent and never ending. And that love is returned to them by each animal that is lucky enough to call Tomten home. Horses, cows, chickens(and roosters), geese, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, bunnies, kitties, alpacas, the tiniest little mini pony and a handsome mule, they all flourish there, some experiencing love and a gentle touch, for the first time.
These women are also one of the most appreciative group of people we've met. We love that every follower and donor are acknowledged, included and sincerely thanked. The lost art of handwritten postcards to say thank you are the norm from Tomten.
If you have the chance, visit Tomten during one of their tours and you'll leave with the biggest smile on your face and your heart filled with joy after seeing these well loved animals. Guaranteed you'll be inspired to support them so they can continue to do more.

Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is my favorite rescue as they help a much forgotten population of animals that deserve peace and protection. Their continued dedication, hard work and compassion to help unwanted farm animals, makes my heart happy. To watch these beautiful creatures blossom both physically and emotionally is amazing. No matter where you live, Tomten makes sure you are virtually included in the day to day happenings with everyone on this farm. It is a privilege to support their work and I'm hoping to visit again, soon.

I had the opportunity to visit this amazing animal sanctuary during their 10th Year Anniversary Celebration and was even more in love in this incredible organization. An all women VOLUNTEER board of directors makes the magic come true for all the residents. Horses, cows, donkeys, pigs, chickens ... all manner of farm animals that have been gifted a forever home here. I emphasize volunteer because every single penny donated goes directly to the care of the residents.
If you can possibly make a donation to help this amazing non-profit, know that 100% of your donation goes directly to the animals in their care. I can't express just how much this organization goes above and beyond.

My absolute favorite non-profit! Why? They continually go over and above to give every animal under their care the promise to live in Peace, Protection and Possibility for the rest of their days. And that's not all, they accomplish this with an amazing all women board of directors who donate their time to make sure this promise is kept. Talk about Wonder Women!
My donations may be small but the appreciation I receive via thank you postcards featuring at least of one of the Tomten animals make my day. I keep every one--I must say they make me much happier than the return address labels I have received from other nonprofits. I can't choose a favorite "resident"—I love them all. The rescues are so well cared for during however much time they grace this earth. What continues to amaze me is that still, over the 10 years I have followed this amazing organization, most everyone who works at Tomten Farm and Sanctuary still does it all PRO BONO. Including founder Jen! (Does she ever sleep???) Not even board members. Not many other rescues/sanctuarys can say that. I like to think that in a very modest way I am helping, even if I am only funding a few bales of hay for someone who arrived in terrible condition.

Oh the stories these horses, pigs, donkeys, cats, sheep, llama, goats, ponies, chickens, ducks, alpacas, roosters, cats and geese could tell. Lucky for us, they have Tomten Founder Jenifer and her dedicated volunteers, donors and tour attendees to help share those stories. Most of the Rescues had horrible pasts and no future. Many were scheduled to "be processed" less than a week before Tomten stepped in. And, as hard as it is to believe, some had even been seized from other nonprofit sanctuaries where they were living in filth, lame, underfed and with little to no proper veterinary/dental care.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary gives all of the animals who walk through their gates a second chance to find peace, protection and possibility. If that future is not possible, after exhausting every possible option, palliative care is provided followed by a peaceful, humane departure from this life surrounded by loving caretakers, is ensured.
I feel like my donations, however small, help even more creatures walk through those gates. And volunteering, virtually or at the farm, confirms to me that those donations are being responsibly directed toward helping animals in need.
I am a volunteer at Nevins Farm, for the MSPCA, and 2 of my favorites, Marsha and Tallulah, have hit the jackpot and now reside at Tomten. I had the fortune to visit them last summer and tour the magical place of Tomten. It is truly a magical place, full of hope, peace and possibilities! The care that the team takes to individually ensure each resident has all they need is inspiring. I am a monthly donor and wish I lived closer to volunteer there as well. Please consider helping them if and when you can.
Samuel, Levi, Mary, Bernadette, Ella Mae, Leroy, Amelia, Figaro, Sir Kappi, Chloe, the Chickabiddies, Grover, and new and future residents that have not arrived yet. Special residents living out their days in a bucolic setting where they are cared for 24/7. Seeing transformations of their spirits is special. One of the horses, for example, seemed physically and emotionally burdened by his sad past. It weighed him down. When I saw him a second time, the transformation was amazing. He is visibly lighter and bouncier and quicker on his feet. A special place for animals to thrive, even if for only a short while.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is the most knowledgeable, dedicated, passionate, transparent, fun, and creative animal non-profit I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The core group of board members and dedicated volunteers truly pursue excellence in each task they take on, and that fact is apparent from the moment you step foot on Tomten soil.
Tomten treats every animal as the individual they are, and knows and embraces their every like, dislike, quirk, and personality trait that makes them, them! Not only that, but Tomten takes health and wellness seriously and works closely and regularly with a fabulous team of veterinary, dental, farrier, health care professionals etc. to make sure that every animal on the farm has top notch care, 365 days a year, 24/7. Horses and donkeys to pigs, chickens and all in between, each animal is evaluated daily to make sure they are happy, healthy, and living in true peace, protection, and possibility. These fine details in the day to day picture alongside incredible knowledge, safety procedures, resource use, planning, growth, and social media are what sets Tomten apart from the rest. In my opinion it is rare to find a farm, let alone a non-profit sanctuary, that has such high standards in every aspect of what they do, and the animals would tell you they agree if they could speak! You can practically feel the gratitude and inner peace radiate off each animal you meet, or even through the computer screen as you scroll your morning Tomten post.
I have had the incredible opportunity to be both a volunteer and past intern at Tomten Farm and Sanctuary and would recommend both to anyone with a love for animals and learning. If you are considering working with the Tomten team in person as a volunteer, know that you are going to be spending your time with a ruthlessly dedicated group of people with a good sense of humor and a passion for animals. You’ll have the chance to see many species of animals happily mingling together, and enjoy your own moments of peace, protection, and possibility every time you visit. Perhaps you would enjoy sitting in the hay room under the watchful eye of a barn cat, filling bags that adorn each stall, shed, and turnout. Or you, like many others might find getting your hands dirty to be therapeutic, and would prefer to spend time helping keep Tomten’s stalls, sheds and fields pristine. On a hot day maybe the pigs would like a shower while you help with their daily water refresh. There are a million ways to spend your time volunteering at Tomten, each with their own merits, and each an important piece to helping the animals live in peace, protection, and possibility. It can be hard work, but the reward is even greater and the friends and education you receive along the way will last a lifetime.
If you’re considering donating to Tomten, just know that each dollar is used in a mindful and impactful manner, and that you are helping a wonderful cause. If you’re on the fence, check out the Facebook page for a look at what Tomten is all about.
Thank you Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for being, doing, and giving more to the animals and the community every day!
We’ve been following Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for a few years now. We actually had the opportunity to visit the farm last summer. It is located in the most beautiful and idyllic setting. These animals are truly loved and very well cared for by this incredible group of women. Being at Tomten is the ultimate soft landing for these beautiful animals!

We had the opportunity to tour TomTen Farm this past Sunday. It was a truly amazing experience. The animals in their care will now live out the rest of their lives in the most beautiful, peaceful and idyllic setting imaginable thanks to the hard work and vision of Jen, Laima, Michele, Julia and Lynn and all of the hard-working volunteers. We feel privileged to be a part of this organization.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is top notch! Everything they do is with the animals’ health and safety in mind. They weigh all decisions carefully and make sure that every single life in their care gets the best.
I recently visited Tomten and have to say it really touched my heart. The minute you step onto the farm you have such a strong sense of serenity and warmth that you would only feel at a place filled with love and compassion. Jen and the others who run it are so dedicated and selfless. It's clear how much they pour their hearts and souls into creating this beautiful haven for the animals that came from hard circumstances. So much care and attention to every detail. It's a very clean facility with spaces well designed for the animals. The property is really scenic and beautiful. You can see that each and every animal gets the highest level of care and are thriving.
i have followed and admired this nonprofit for years now. These dedicated kind people stretch every resource including their own big hearts to take in animals that need a soft landing. Its all small donors, sweat equity, the goodness of neighbors and friends.
Tomten is a light to all who follow & support them. Their sharing tips, techniques & tools help us do better aiding animals. They are the standard for rescue! Our Diamond Girl rescued from a kill field sends her greetings!
Tomten Farm is an incredible sanctuary. Not only do they provide an amazing forever life for animals who have limited options, they also take the time to keep the community updated on various social media sites and it's very clear how the donations are being utilized. It is a great feeling to see animals who may have been unfit, sad, and lonely begin to trust and thrive. They also provide a gift to owners who can no longer support their pets by making sure these sweet friends are taken care of. It is a credit to Tomten that they have established so many strong bonds within the vet community, other nonprofits and local farmers. The board does not pull punches; we hear it all, the great things that are happening and the heartbreak when it's time to let one of the residents go. The honesty and sincerity in their messages reaches across and grabs the heart. I can only recommend Tomten for people who want to support animals, both big and small, old and young. It is a beautiful place.
This is a wonderful nonprofit that offers safety and protection to many different animals. They not only offer protection but they help to educate the public about the different animals and their unique needs. The level of care they give these animals is amazing. They are dedicated individuals who have built a community of people through their posts, tours, videos and volunteers allowing others to follow the rescues and form connections.

This rescue is fantastic because it recognizes the gift of life of so many species of animals. It not only gives a safe place for animals to live out their days but also makes sure they have others like them so they can share their experience with others who "speak the same language". They help to educate people as to the need for rescue without judgement. They also come up with the best names for the animals with the help of the Tomten community. I have been following them for years and enjoy every update about the different animals at the rescue. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication of those who run the rescue. They work hard to ensure that the rescue will be able to continue into the future which is so important for the wellbeing of the animals in their care and those that will someday need a safe place.
I found Tomten because I was looking for an animal rescue for donation to honor a friend who lives nearby. I donated, I went for a tour (pigs eating whole watermelons stands out), and I fell in love. The ladies who run the Sanctuary and put so much love and care into their beloved rescues are goddesses, each and every one. This is not a great nonprofit, it is The Greatest. Give them all your money, donate, volunteer. You will die a happy soul.
I've been following Tomten on social media for quite a while. I've donated to their cause many, many times. Its a place for animals, of any age, in need of a "soft landing" for whatever the reason. Tomten's promise of providing peace, protection and possibilty to animals in need is a true testament to what Tomten is all about. There are just not enough positive words to descibe this wonderful sanctuary and all the great things they do for animals in need.
I'm new to Tomten as a donor, but have found their sanctuary to be incredibly caring, devoted, loving, and above and beyond when it comes to taking care of all the needs of every inhabitant. They are a community of angels for suffering animals, bringing love and hope to abuse and neglect.
Tomten Farm continues to go that extra mile to rescue and care for animals and give them a safe, loving forever home.
I’m so glad to see all the animals that are being cared for. This is one of the best non-profits! I always share their posts with my fb friends.
No large animals — just two cats but I care about all animals!!
While I follow a few sanctuaries/rescues online, Tomten gets my donations. I love that they take such care to ensure they're sustainable. And how thoughtfully they consider the wholistic well-being of every animal, every day.
This photo is one of my favorites, showing friendship across species. Tomten lives up to its motto of "peace, protection, & possibility". My gander's middle name is Tomten for this reason!
Tomten is such a beautiful and serene rescue, with the most caring and hardworking group of people. It truly is a sanctuary for the animals brought there, whether temporarily or for the remainder of their days. It is obvious that day in and day out, the staff and volunteers make sure everything is in tip top condition for these animals. I’ve had the opportunity to visit twice and, both times, I was blown away. Here is a photo of me with Samuel - I cannot express how much I love this place!
I am still new to NH. Since retiring and moving here I've been focusing on other things like giving. Tomten Farm is amazing from what I've seen. We became sustainable donors to help them achieve their goal of no animal left behind. I applaud what they do and hope to see them continue caring for aging, unhealthy and in some cases unwanted senior animals. Bless their hearts. Become a donor, you could save precious lives.
Update: After having the chance to see first-hand what this organization and it's volunteers do every day, I am in awe of their generous and ferocious spirit. The animals they care for are truly blessed to be in the hands of such capable people and they're adorable to boot!
Become a supporter, if you can.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is exemplary in every way. Their treatment of the animals in their care, the way they fundraise, the way they treat the public! All of it! I absolutely cannot say enough about this non profit
Tomtem Farm and Sanctuary of New Hampshire caught my eye several years ago with their incredible compassion and desire to rescue species of all kinds. As a proud Dobbin Fund donor, I look forward to seeing more people join the cause to help rescue older equines in need of a soft place to land in a time of need. For the cost of a couple of cups of coffee, I enjoy knowing that my little bit of my monthly financial help goes a long way towards helping a senior horse and many more in the years to come! Thank you to everyone at Tomtem Farm and Sanctuary, and thank you to everyone who cares and support them from near and far.

I started regularly donating to Tomten Farm and Sanctuary almost two years ago after doing a lot of research on various animal rescues in New England. The people who run this sanctuary are literal angels, and they have created a true haven of peace, possibility, and protection for all kinds of farm animals. They take impeccable care of each resident, ensuring their specific needs are met. They take on senior horses and provide them with exemplary health care so that their remaining time on this earth is comfortable and happy. Beyond that, they take a lot of time to continuously update folks on Facebook about the joys and trials of being a farm sanctuary, patiently educating folks on all the things on that are needed to provide such a happy place for so many lives in need. Donating to Tomten and being a part of the community brings great meaning to my life. I am very grateful to have found them and be a small part of the magic of Tomten.
Compassionate, professional, transparent, inclusive, generous, thoughtful, conscientious and kind. These are the words that come to mind when describing Tomten. I am proud to be a monthly donor to this organization that truly deserves support. Tomten transforms animals who are on their last lifeline giving them much needed medical attention, nourishment, and a chance to live out their lives in a caring and compassionate environment. The E.D. and Board are active volunteers and contributors to this wonderful organization. Read the stories on the website or Facebook and visit the farm during a public tour. Truly amazing.

Words can’t do TF&S justice because there is not enough room to list all superlatives in one review. In basic terms, I have watched this wonderful farm grow and thrive since it moved to NH. The impact on animals and humans alike is immeasurable. Animals are saved and rehabilitated in both body and spirit. It is amazing to see the transformation of once forgotten “throw away” souls into thriving animals, each giving a bit of love as thanks to all who volunteer or visit (see LaLa below giving me her thanks for a day of volunteering). TF&S engages, educates, collaborates with individuals, non-profits, schools and communities and delivers all with complete transparency and inclusiveness. It is a wondrous place guided by a deeply committed Board and a founder and President whose commitment is unlike any I have seen.
I can only say again what everyone else has, this is a wonderful organization that truly cares about animals and good stewardship of them. They are a 'soft landing' for animals in need, the old horse that's lost their home, the sheep, the cows, the rabbits, the chickens, wonderful animals (and often, wonderful owners) that need a hand. Tomten gives them that, and so much more. There is enormous dedication among the board and volunteers, which I can barely call myself compared to the superhuman efforts of the director, board, and weekly volunteers. They are the magic, and you feel it when you meet the animals and see their easy manner and contentment with their lives.

A truly wonderful rescue that I have been supporting the last couple of years. The level of individual care they give to each and every animal in their charge is outstanding. Taking the emotional and social heath of the animals into consideration always, in addition to excellent medical and day to day care. They are so very aware that each animal they rescue means taking on a lifetime of care and responsibility to that life, and their rescue process is very thoughtful and thorough. The farm is a happy place to visit; the animals are happy, curious, and expressive to visitors, which many of them seem to love. The dedication and passion of the director and board members shows in everything they do.
I had an amazing tour of this amazing facility! The staff and volunteer are friendly, caring, happy, and hard working. The animals all seemed happy and well cared for… they are doing amazing work here!
What can I add that already hasn't been said about Tomten Farm and Sanctuary! It is truly a magical place and I am so fortunate to be a volunteer for the last year and a half. The word "Oasis" meaning "something that provides refuge, relief, and a pleasant contrast" best describes Tomten for me in this chaotic world. The rescues are loved, well taken care of, and best are safe and sheltered from danger or trouble. Jen, the Board, Silas, Lily, and the volunteers are terrific individuals who are giving of their time for the love of our rescues. Please support this nonprofit and you will be rewarded knowing that you are contributing to "peace, protection, and possibility for those animals in need".

It has been over a year and a half since I started to volunteer. I have learned so many things under the watchful eyes of Jen , Lima, and Lynn, my friends and board members. I have become more skilled at my task and have learned the importance of energy, intent, when working with rescues. I am fulfilled being a small part of this amazing organization, and hope to grow with it, and become an integral part. Tomten has healed my heart and restored my faith that truly there are places that are kind and compassionate.

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since I started volunteering at Tomten farm and sanctuary. This picture melts my heart, it’s not right have favorites, and I can honestly say that every animal at Tomtens is near and dear to my heart but this guy he was my first friend. He was on stall rest to heal his hoofs and while cleaning stalls I would engage in many conversations with my gentle giant. SaMule has not had the best of life (you can read his story on the tomten page.)SaMule certainly has reasons to be fearful or wary of humans but not so he’s kind, gentle, intelligent, and forgiving. I have so many things I would like everyone to know about Tomtens and the amazing women, especially Jen, who is selfless and cares for these creatures with full commitment and compassion, but I would not have enough space lol to express what I have witnessed from this amazing group. Tomten slogan is peace, protection and possibility for the animals that have found their way and will live out the rest of their time never knowing anything but care and kindness. When I started at Tomtens, I felt beaten and battered by the years I spent working as a critical care nurse. I have seen too much ,experienced the worst of humankind, the craziness of horrible things happening to wonderful people as well as knowing that in the second lives can be altered and shattered by just something unpredictable is an accident or an illness. My time at Tomtens has been spent learning the importance of our energy our approaches, our mannerisms, our actions, our tones, and how we can approach and engage with these magnificent creatures, who have been blessed by living out their life now in this caring, beautiful piece of earth. I have also found that my heart has been healed, and that I am able to just be . Thank you Jen and Lima, and all the rest of the amazing women that have made this Nirvana a Place of hope.
Over one year ago, my wife began volunteering Tomten . I enjoyed seeing how happy she was after each and every visit. She would entertain me with stories about the animals and the women workers at the farm. I began to look forward to hearing about all after each and every visit. I have attended two farm visits each impressed me with the dedication and commitment of the board. Each and every rescue will get a new name and live a life where they can trust the humans that care for them and receive the best of nutrition and care. All of the board are strong and intelligent women And I see why my wife enjoys this so much. Soon I started to think in ways that I could help and be a part of this. I’m a skilled handyman and decided to offer my services. I now enjoy being a part of this amazing organization, helping in a small way . I too leave every time happy and content in knowing that this place exist. Peace, protection, and possibilities come true at Tomtens.
Jen and her team are the hardest working, friendly, caring folks I have met in many years! The animals in their care live full and happy lives!
I am so blown away by the dedication and love poured into these animals. Very well run farm that teaches their volunteers how to engage with the animals to help gain their trust. I love being able to support their efforts each month with a donation
We gave been donating to Tomten for a while now - trust us: you
will never, and I mean NEVER, "meet" and hopefully support a
harder-working, more caring and loving, and more dedicated
non-profit anywhere - and we mean that seriously. Brad & Beth

I have been following, visiting and helping many others in support of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for more than two years now and can tell you with all certainty that I am more impressed every single day with the care, compassion, and skilled expertise given these rescues! I have seen and felt the (care in motion) and the peaceful happiness that the animals manifest. The care given to each rescue as they are integrated with this community is so impressive. The information stream of photos, updates and wishes never falters. The Board of Directors that are the heart and soul of Tomten are tireless and their gifts endless. The Volunteers and medical clinicians are crucial resources and so active in these rescues lives, as well as a full time employee now. All at Tomten are so loved by us - the fans and off site supporters. Thank you to all that are Tomten! ❤️

Tomten Farm & Sanctuary in Haverhill, NH is a precious gem, saving animals in need in NH and recently VT too. Jennifer and the Board members are some of the most dedicated and hard working Board members I’ve met in any organization - AND they have big open hearts, which is what these precious animals need. The grounds, play/exercise areas and sheltered homes that are provided and impeccably maintained, are thoughtfully and beautifully built. The (educational only) tours are extremely informative and open-hearted, with care and assessment of each animal always at the heart of the tours. These caretakers are top notch and impressively knowledgeable about the history and the appropriate care for each animal there. Tomten utilizes highly regarded medical resources (Veterinarians, specialists, hospitals, farriers, etc) which provide acute/chronic/ and maintenance care for these precious Tomten residents. They are regularly communicating with donors, and public via Facebook, and emails (if requested.) please consider offering your support of these precious beings as they live the rest of their days in this peaceful and loving sanctuary, offering them their best years of life!
Who knew that only several hours away, in a town with the same name as my own, was an animal sanctuary that exceeded every single expectation I could have had for the perfect animal sanctuary. Owned and managed by the most dedicated group of animal advocates one could ever hope to see managing the lives of these many furry, hooved, feathered residents. The health, well-being, and safety of the animals under their care are always Priority One and these individuals sacrifice much to do that. Tomten's intense commitment to the precious lives they have saved is inspiring!
It was truly a pleasure to finally take an in-person tour of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. Like many others, I’ve been following this rescue since the beginning and have come to know these wonderful animals and their stories through Facebook. Jen beautifully posts the circumstances of each animal finding themselves in need, and continues to write about them as they live out their lives at Tomten Farm.
Jen gave us a wonderful tour on June 25th with lots of stories, information about the farm and answers to all of our questions, and I was finally able to meet the animals I’ve known from a distance for so long. It was an incredible, heartfelt experience!
The animals are amazing and truly the ambassadors of the farm. At every area we visited, they came out curiously to greet us at the fence, make our acquaintance, many showing us their delightful personalities. I found it remarkable that most of them were interested and comfortable with our presence and unfamiliar faces. Surely a sign of feeling protected and at peace!
It is a beautiful and peaceful farm for close to 75+ animals and every animal is loved and well cared for by a dedicated, compassionate and hard working group of volunteers! The farm is carefully thought out, and a forever home for the horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, goats, one llama and two alpacas, cats, rabbits and chickens, ducks and three free-wheeling geese that live there. It was great to meet them all!
All of the animals live in beautiful spacious pastures with large well-built shelters and fences, amazing coops, catteries and pens and a wonderful big red barn.
Hope to visit again.
Thank you for a wonderful day!

Tomten Farm is a beautiful animal sanctuary carefully and thoughtfully directed by a number of very compassionate, hardworking and dedicated individuals.
Each and every rescue animal is amazing and Jen beautifully provides us with many details about the journey that has brought them to a safe and beautiful life on Tomten Farm.
Jen also writes about the terrible circumstances that many of these animals have experienced, in an effort to help us understand and keep us aware of animal abuses and injustice.
It is so obvious from all of the photos shared with us, how well cared for and loved these animals are! From the curious chickens, ducks and geese, horses and cows, the goats, sheep, llamas, pigs, donkeys and mules, rabbits and cats…they are all given another chance to live out their days in peace, protected in a forever home.
Thank you to all who contribute and participate in making Tomten Farm and Sanctuary possible!
On 6/24/2023 I was able to make a dream come true. I met in person all the beautiful animals & people I have come to know & love through

I follow Tomten Farm & Sanctuary on Facebook. The Tomten world is full of wonderful people who give their lives to give so many animals love, protection, medical care & security. To see a broken soul without a reason to live, flourish in his or her new home @
Tomten is nothing less than a miracle. Freya Firetail is one of my favorites. My dream is to come to Tomten, meet her & all the amazing people & beautiful animals who call Tomten Farm & Sanctuary their home. In 2023 my dream will come true. I will visit this piece of Heaven on Earth❤️
I’ve been a supporter of Tomten for over a year. Today a group of visitors and supporters did a wonderful tour with founder Jen Vickery and the board. The care, compassion, knowledge and respect the team of committed volunteer leaders bring to giving so many animals the opportunity to live their lives with dignity, safety and peace was moving to witness. The enclosures, pastures, paddocks and dwellings are species appropriate and wonderfully designed. The animals are relaxed, incredibly well cared for and clearly happy. The team works with a variety of vets to cover the many species to whom they provide permanent homes (e.g. 26 equids!). There is a spirit of love, care, great humor and kindness everywhere you turn. Tomten is a resource New England relies onto - they are the real deal. Visit! Donate! Follow Tomten!
Tomten sanctuary provides exceptional care to every single animal who is fortunate enough to call this farm home. From the amazing pictures and thoughtful, uplifting posts on social media, to the unending chores required to provide that care, to ensuring that each animal receives whatever care it needs to live life to its fullest, Tomten steps up. For example, there are many senior animals at Tomten; each one gets individualized dietary, health care, comfort and social needs met. Knowledgeable and compassionate eyes are always attentive to what each individual is telling them. It is heartwarming and inspiring to see everyone-the founder, board members, volunteers and supporters-giving their all to "do more, and be more" for the animals. They have much to teach all of us, and it makes me so glad to be able to help support such a phenomenal and deserving nonprofit.
Tomten Farm, a haven for older and unwanted animals, is truly inspiring! The loving dedication of the director, volunteers and staff to these beings who would otherwise be abused, neglected or destroyed shows that there is ,indeed, good in the world. I learned about Tomten through my participation in dog training classes led by Jen, the program's founder and director. When she talked about the farm animals her eyes lit up, and it was clear from her expression that she treasured and valued each one of them, Since then, I have had the opportunity to see, via photos and videos, a similar commitment and joy exhibited by the other volunteers as well. Tomten Farm is remarkable; I wish they would adopt me!!!

What words do you use to describe people who devote their entire existence to the betterment of animals that no one wants. Magnanimous, benevolent, selfless, simply extraordinary. These are the people of Tomten Farm and Animal Sanctuary, the dream come true for 75 farm animals who were rescued from abuse or abandonment and brought to this beautiful place.
Tomten Farm and Animal Sanctuary in Haverhill, NH is the most meaningful enterprise to which I have ever been exposed. Run by the dynamic Jennifer Vickery and a team of compassionate volunteers, this non-profit organization offers shelter to horses, pigs, mules, roosters and a variety of other furry characters. But more than offering shelter, it gives its collective heart to all of its’ residents from the moment they enter until the time they take their last breath. I was recently present when Jennifer received bad news about a Tomten horse from a veterinarian. The worry and loss on her face said it all. This kind of love is transcendent, and speaks to the quality of leadership at Tomten. I would urge anyone looking for that special charity to choose this one. It changes lives.

Tomten Farm and Sanctuary uses our funds for proper animal care. They welcome many different species of animals. All one needs to do is visit the farm during one of their open farm tours and you will experience the magic.
I love Tomten Farm! Their care and compassion for all of their animals is so amazing. I got to visit for one of their tours and hope to get back again soon!
The animals truly come first. They are in very spacious, well maintained areas. They have strong financial plans to keep them running smoothly and consider this when taking in new rescues. The setting is also very beautiful. The Board members and founder are truly focused on giving these animals their best life for as long as their bodies allow. My husband and I visited in the fall and took a tour. You can tell lots of planning went on for best use of space an locations for animals. The bunny area was something I had never seen before. They had indoor and outdoor area with a huge mound that the buns loved to dig and tunnel in while being secure from predators.
My son took me to a visit to Tomten Farm last year for me to see the amazing work they do for animals they have saved. It is an amazing forever home for animals that would otherwise be destroyed or suffering. The animals receive a safe place to live, medical care and love. The appreciation in their eyes shines through. The continuous care and management of this farm is mainly accomplished through the founders and volunteers . I will continue my support of this farm "family."
I am fairly new to supporting the Tomten Farm and Sanctuary of NH but in that short time I have become so awed at the dedication and kindness the staff exudes from every part of their being. Their time and effort are inspiring. The animals in their care are exceedingly lucky and blessed to have landed at Tomten for the remainder of their lives. I am happy to help them continue on this journey.
If you have never been to Tomten Farm and Sanctuary you need to move it to the top of your bucket list right now ! This beautiful farm is heaven on earth for all of its animals !! A tour of this farm will give you a history of where each of its animals came from and how each one of them has had the chance to truly flourish under the loving care of Tomten. The landscape, barns and pastures are spacious and pristine. Grooming and specific individualized nutrition requirements are part of the daily routine at Tomten, and they have access to the best veterinarians around. But where Tomten goes the extra mile is with their dedication to the emotional well being of the animals. They are not just safe and healthy,,they are also loved and respected. Each furry personality gets the space it needs to be itself truly embrace life..What a gift this sanctuary is. Thank you TOMTEN
No matter how they look at it, Dobbin, SaMule, Bernadette, and their friends are enjoying life as it should be: without a care in the world. Tomten gave them, and will continue to give future inhabitants, a second chance. Whether these special beings were overworked, put out to pasture, surrendered, or discarded when deemed useless, they are now in a safe place and are surrounded by those who care. They have endless free time, they can take daily naps and have lunch with new friends every day. Spa days are free!
I discovered the wonderful story of Tomten by my FB feed. I am a follower of a number of rescue organizations and when I went to Tomten’s page to learn more about this sanctuary, I was and will be, forever linked in my heart to this wonderful organization.
Jen, Julia, Laila and Michele…thank you for being angels on Earth for all the souls that you have saved and for those that might in the future find peace, protection and possibility at Tomten.
Neigh, honk, moo, baa, bray, maa, oink, cluck, meow, hum and cockledoodledoo all say thank you for all you do.
I’ve known Jen for years. She started out riding horses and helping out with local rescues through financial donations and volunteering. Then she decided to start her own rescue right here in Bolton! It was small at first, with a few horses and pigs and goats. We knew she loved it so much and wanted to save every animal she could. By moving to a large New Hampshire farm, she started to! The journey of Tomten has been incredible and inspiring and uplifting! It’s awesome to know such great people exist in the world, and locally. I’ve been a donor for many years and will always support Jen and her mission to provide peace, protection, and possibility!
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is an amazing organization that I m very proud to support. The effort and emotion that their staff contributes every day in carrying out their mission to "provide a life of peace, protection and possibility" for cast aside animals is at once humbling and inspiring.
I have given a few times as I know Tomten has always done as they said they would. My brother and I gave to get "HOME" for a beautiful Mule. We look forward the the postings. Even when I have requested on the morning meet and great they complied. They all work so hard to keep all the animals happy. I have tears in my eyes reading their stories. I really hope I can give more this year. A very heart felt feeling for this exceptional rescue.
I’m 81 years old and a few years ago I became aware of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary and tried to help out but found I was too old and too weak to be much help. So now I just support them financially. I have been very impressed with the way these animals are cared for and the quality of their food and veterinary care. I raised goats as a hobby for about 40 years and know how well all the animals are being treated!!
Tomten Farm continues to amaze me with their commitment to their mission of providing a safe , loving and humane environment to the animals in their care. Being in the north country, this is not always an easy task but they continue to conquer and rise above any adversities. Whether it be a pig, sheep, goose or cat, they can all be assured that they will never be mistreated for the rest of their lives.
This rescue does wonderful work. They have a unique and personal relationship with their donors , volunteers and members of the community. It amazes me on how much they get done with limited personnel and funding. If anyone has extra$$$, this is a great rescue to donate to!
I love Tom Ten! I love their vision of Peace and Possibility so Animals are absolutely secure and treasured for the rest of their lives. I love receiving their Tuesday emails/videos of day to day life: animals playing, snoring, staring off across the fields dreaming…racing ecstatically and lying down in deep slumber. The founder’s story is heartbreaking yet her horse’s tragedy has fueled an extraordinary journey of restoration and deep reconciliation that is the devotion and practice of Tom Ten: save lives forever, however their forever may unfold. The sheer labor involved is stupendous, but the humans are all running on obvious love to overcome heartache and that well of integrity is infinitely deep.
I try to support a wide range of non-profits but they (Founder, Animals and Board) are by far my favorite.
A M A Z I N G group of women running this rescue farm and sanctuary!!!
Hats off to each and every one of them and ALL the Volunteers.
SO caring~
THANK YOU for all that you do for the lucky animals under your wing
Rae S.
Tomten is an amazing non-profit. Their mission is one of such compassion. The staff is so dedicated to the animals - it’s truly something I’ve never witnessed before. I’m truly proud to be a donor. Forever!
I was extremely impressed with how well Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is operated. First and foremost the way the animals are treated and cared for is exemplary. Next are the hard working generous and committed volunteer people that make up Tomten. Such a wonderful collection of caring and honest people. They are so attuned to the needs of the animals in their care. It is a huge undertaking and they do it so well. The barns ,windbreaks, fencing are all taken care of and the area that the animals have to roam is very large. Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a wonderful place for rescue animals run by great people.
It iis a struggle to find a sincere rescue home for those that are looking to invest in. I have looked into many and can say I'm very confident in Tomten Farms./ I love the updates and the proffesional way they communicate
These wonderful people make a huge difference in the animals they rescue. Have not visited yet, but I am a supporter.
I love TomTen! What a wonderful idea to rescue farm animals who are sure to die otherwise. Just looking at the animals at the farm, you see what good can come from a little care and attention. I’m not sure I believe these animals have human emotions, but they sure do look and act happy!
Keep up the good work TomTen!

Remarkable. Visionary. Extraordinary. Committed. Magical. These words best describe what is Tomten.
With the leadership of founder Jenifer Vickery, the dedication of board members, and the support of volunteers and worldwide followers, TFS is an exemplary sanctuary where the animals are the thing, the only thing.
From a small Massachusetts property, the operation moved to New Hampshire in 2016 and transformed a modest dairy farm into the animal paradise that is Tomten today. And they ain’t done yet!
With the relentless efforts of Jenifer, devoted board members and enthusiastic volunteers, Tomten ensures animals in their care are housed and nourished to address individual needs. Continuing support from donors, large and small, will enable further expansion and guarantee that Tomten maintains its commitment to provide peace, protection and possibility to every animal in their care.
If you have not yet toured this extraordinary space, I encourage you to do so. Each time we visit, we happily reflect on yet another magical experience.
We have been part of the Tomten Farm and Santuary since we saw them on WMUR . We were invited to come and meet with the donkeys one year and was touched by the care and work that went into the rescues of all the animals. We are updated with photos and stories and we are proud to be a part of this organization . We do what we can but realize every little bit helps . I enjoy receiving the post cards of the rescued animals and the posts on Facebook . It warms my heart to see the care and final home of the rescues .
I fall more in love with Tomton everyday. The people who work there were truly dropped from heaven. Their hard work and dedication make for such a beautiful sanctuary. How lucky the animals who find their way there!! Thank you for caring, loving and dedicating your lives to these magnificent animals. The world is a better place now…….
I first became aware of Tomten through the dog care business. I cannot speak more highly of Pawsitive Dog; but that discussion is for another day. I had not yet visited Tomten however I was so impressed with how they manage Tomten. I learn something from every post and Tomten is completely transparent in their activities. I had no idea the hidden, darker side of the animal husbandry industry. I was completely ignorant of costs and effect on the lives if forgotten and unwanted animal who gave their all and now find themselves in dire circumstances.
Last Fall, I made my first visit and it was like stepping through the looking glass into another world. I finally understood the love and commitment it takes to create this sanctuary which belongs to the residents. It is not enough to offer them a home although they do so in an amazing manner; the animals know and feel this is their place and belongs to them…always. It is not empty words to provide peace, protection and possibilities, but a promise that all who provides stewardship at Tomten truly embodies. The “do more” mentality is a true passion of how seriously they take the responsibility to have the animals not only survive but thrive at their own pace. It never is forgotten on how each precious life experiences each day.
I do not know how they do what they do. Tomten shares all and my heart breaks at some of the stories they share with us. I am in awe of how they are so caring in the face of what happens in their world and the effect on these loving souls. Stepping on Tomten is life-changing. To see pure love and drive to do more everyday is truly inspirational. I am so grateful to learn how I can do better as an individual.
I wrote the review below last year and it still holds true today. Visit the farm if you can and if you can't, follow their Facebook or Instagram pages to add inspiration, peace, beauty, hope and just an overall good vibe to your day. Support them and add your footprints to the foot, paw, claw and hoofprints at the farm.
January 17, 2022I can’t think of a better way to support the #bettywhitechallenge than by donating to Tomten, a great organization that shares the beloved cause of protecting animals. Betty said “Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.” The passionate people and supporters at Tomten are leaving impressive footprints through their dedication to and compassion for the animals at Tomten. The stories and pictures of the animals will capture your heart. I hope to one day volunteer in person and add my footsteps to the paw and hoof prints at the farm.

My wife and I started following Tomten in its infancy, and have been thrilled to watch it grow, contribute when possible, and get to know Jen and other board member/volunteers. Tomten's success is awe-inspiring to behold, and its mission and accomplishments are a beacon, and a wonderful example of what can be done with clear vision, hard work and compassion. We visit annually, with great anticipation. Tomten is a model of how to do it "right."
I have followed Tomten whilst living in New England and subsequently in the UK. Their unstinting efforts on behalf of the animals they rescue, care for and give unimaginable love to is incredible. On top of all this they keep their followers uptodate with the amazing activities on the farm/sanctuary. As a non- profit organisation they can hold their heads up high. The work the staff do is from their hearts ♥️
Reading these great reviews leaves me a little tongue-tied; what else could I have to offer?
I have followed TF&S going on ten years now and my love, admiration and thanks for the work they do grows daily. And though most of us supporters can't 'be there' physically to help, Jen and Laima et al. really make us feel as though we are, that we 'count'.
Thank you, Tomten team!

I first learned about Tomten back in 2015 I believe, and have been a supporter ever since. My admiration and yes, love, for those who actively maintain Tomten—and those of us who cheer them on and support as we each can ‘from afar’—has only grown with each passing year. And will continue to grow, I’m sure.
Attended a tour of the farm, they provided education and backstories about all of the residents, and it is obvious how dedicated they are to assuring the animals live their best lives.
Years ago, I adopted a horse from Tomten. Not just any horse, a plain red horse who was the love of my life. I can't thank Jen and Tomten for noticing him, and rescuing him, and then for the time and patience making sure he'd have his own safe, adoring family for the rest of his life.
Tomten has grown since then, to an amazing sanctuary for so many horses and other animals who deserve and find peace, protection, and possibility. I have followed its growth and development, and can only say how much I admire the strategy, dedication and pure love that this organization gives to those in its care. How fortunate are the animals that get to live out their days at Tomten Farm and Sanctuary.
I’ve been following Tomten for a long time and I love how they rescue all kinds of amazing animals and give them super names, but most of all, how much time and love and care they put into it all.
I just love this sanctuary. It’s such a breath of fresh air. Jen and the board are very conscientious to the needs of the animals now and in the future. Peace protection and possibilities!

I just love this organization! “Peace, protection and possibility” is their motto. They rescue horses and farm animals. I can’t get over the personal touch. Jenifer Vickery has personally called me three times. I have received many postcards with a pic of an animal and a hand written thank you note! During lockdown Jen cared for the animals by herself. That’s an amazing feat!
Tomten restores my faith in our ability to listen to, care for and live with other creatures. Animals are treated attentively, with full understanding of their needs. The farm is built around this ideal. One of my favorite rituals is Jen reading the story of the tompten to all of the animals at Christmas. The farm is an educational resource for all ages—Jen, Liama and the Tomten staff will patiently help us learn what we need to know to be better humans. :)
I discovered Tomten purely by accident, online, some time ago. Since then, I have followed them and contributed to them, both directly and through Amazon Smile. They are small but mighty; their love and care for the many species of animal friends that they rescue is phenomenal. They offer "peace, protection, and possibility" to large animals like cows and horses; but also to smaller lives -- pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens! Their transparency is wonderful; I see daily posts and photos along with heartwarming reports about individual animal friends/residents, all of whom have names! I especially love hearing about the three camelids -- two alpacas and a llama -- who have joined the group fairly recently. There is love for every single life at Tomten. Winters are a challenge, but they do everything well, and everything right. for each life in their care.
They do outstanding rescue work. They are so involved with their animlas and the engage followers in interesting ways. Their stories of new acquisitions are so heartwarming! And the photos they share are usually fun, sometimes a story, sometimes a lesson. I regard them highly and would recommend them to anyone! Sincerely and heartily - jan
Thank you for saving animals!
Although I am in NC, I have close ties to this wonderful caring Sanctuary.
I have seen your wonderful farm and clearly all the animals are living their best life.
It was so wonderful to visit Tomten and see first hand the animals that were so well cared for. It was obvious the amount of work that it takes to keep the horses, goats, pigs and rabbits clean, well fed and loved. I have been a donor to Tomten for several years.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary does wonderful things for many animals. I follow them on Facebook and see all of the kind and compassionate care they give. They are truly a safe haven for animals to land.
This is not a picture from Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. This is a picture of my mother, Mary DeMerchant with one of her beloved cats. My Mom passed away almost 2 years ago. She was an animal lover. One time, many years ago she found $20.00. She had my Dad drive her to the local animal shelter to donate the found money to a cause she believed strongly in. She was the reason that inspired me to have a fund raiser in her memory, and the reason I picked Tomten Farm.
All you have to do is log on to Facebook and follow Tomten Farm to find yourself glued to the daily posts of their good works. Here you will find animals of all varieties that have found their place to live out the rest of their lives in comfort and peace. Many have histories of neglect, abuse or need of care for other reasons. Tomten is able to do this do to the tireless effort of endless volunteer hours, and the generous use of the land they live on by the owners of Tomten. Daily posts include the trials and tribulations of caring daily for a large collection of animals in ever changing New England weather. Here you will also find the stories of how an animal luckily ended up here. Each has their own story. The pictures that are posted are breathtaking. Readers get to even help select names for the new arrivals.
The donation I made was personally recognized with a card and letter sent from the volunteer board. They didn’t turn around and send me a pen, name labels or a calendar trying to guilt me into sending MORE money, which unfortunately many nonprofits do. That’s a waste of donation money and makes people, especially seniors feel like they should send another donation. Their simple, beautiful, heartfelt thank you is enough.
I often wish I lived closer to volunteer there. When I retire, maybe I will be able to spend some time mucking stalls, spreading a hay path for winter walking or whatever I can do to help these precious animals and dedicated folks.
I absolutely love Tomten I have been a supporter for years. They are the best, I love the care and compassion they offer to every animal they they save and I love how honest and transparent they are about what they do with the money they receive from donations. Thank you Tomten for offering peace and protection to so many.
I have been watching Tomten grow since its inception 9 years ago. It is absolutely incredible what Jen and the amazing Board have accomplished in that time. Jen is one of a kind in her love for and devotion to animals. She is unendingly loving, generous and kind— but also incredibly thoughtful, pragmatic and smart. She has truly built this entire Sanctuary from the ground up— and at every single step has kept the animals first and foremost in mind. I am proud and happy to be able to support Tomten Farm and Sanctuary — in honor of the animals that I have loved in my life, and of the ones who will have a whole new chance at life thanks to Jen and the rest of the Sanctuary team. -Evelyn M.
Tomten continues to grow in thoughtful, transparent ways. They continue to inspire me. These ladies are the real deal, and with each visit, I fall in love with each and every rescue and their sanctuary even more. Check out their amazing work.
Such wonderful work is being done at Tomten Sanctuary! I've been following their work online for years and the dedication and compassion that Jen, the board members and the volunteers show towards all the animals is heart warming! I look forward to visiting in 2023. Keep up the outstanding work, and thank you for all you do!
These folks are the real thing. Love and compassion for animals and kindness and appreciation for supporters.
Lyle and Alana had an amazing time visiting Tomten Farm and Sanctuary! The experience was unique, interactive, and fun! The animals are so friendly and well cared for. We would absolutely go back!
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a fantastic organization. I had only known them from their social media posts for a few years, and was beyond excited to finally visit several times in 2022. I already liked this organization from what I had learned about them online, but meeting the dedicated volunteers behind this organization as well as the animal residents of the sanctuary was truly an amazing experience. The way that the volunteers interact with the animals, always putting the animals needs front and center was beautiful to watch. Being able to meet the animals on a tour was so exciting, learning more about them, and even getting to feed them was a dream come true! What I have learned from this organization has been very impactful and has made me much more aware and in tune with animals I previously had very little knowledge about.
Before I donate to any non profit I like to know a lot about them, Tomten’s approach, smart and strategic use of funds, philosophy, and always putting the animals first makes me proud to be a supporter. Highly recommend going on a tour to meet this hardworking dedicated organization in person. They make each donors support go a long way, more than I could ever imagine, and appreciate and care for their supporters with just as much love as they have for the animal residents that they care for.
A favorite animal sanctuary of mine. I so admire what they stand for, but most of all love the way they view life and respect for all, humans and non-humans.
I can never say enough great things about this organization and the people who make it possible! I have been involved with Tomten before it was Tomten and I have had the pleasure of watching the sanctuary grow and welcome life after life. I never know how Jen finds the time and am constantly inspired by her and all the fabulous volunteers and board members! I try to get up to Tomten at least once a year for a tour or volunteer day. I never get tired of hearing the stories of each rescue and leaning about each species there! Everyone has a favorite and for me it is the Donkey’s. Before Tomten I never knew they were protectors, which made me love them even more. The pic is from a few years ago and is me and Baby Bray❤️
Compassionate, Intelligent, Resourceful, Honest..a few words to describe Tomten. Jen is always so grateful for everything everyone does and shows it. I look forward to my postcards thanking me, but it is I who am thankful for all the lives they enrich. Tomten is a stellar example of what every rescue should achieve to be. Mickel Maulik
Tomtenfarmandsanctuary.org is a magical farm where farm animals get to rest, be loved and cared for for the rest of their lives. I've been on tours always learning something new about these beautiful rescues and the specialty care they receive. Wonderful Sanctuary!

Have been following Tomten for several years and they are one of my very favorites. I trust their decisions and look forward to their stories . Even when the end result isn’t what we hoped for I am comfortable knowing that the animal…all deserving…found the peace and love needed up to the end. Love them and love this cause xxx
5 stars!!! I love that Tomten rescues all kinds of animals. They post often and introduce the animals they rescue
Totten farm and sanctuary is amazing. They work hard and strive to provide the best care for all their animals big and small. They run their facility with kindness and patience.
Tomten is a special place. The animals in their care are some of the luckiest of their kind. Farmed animals are some of the most used and abused around, but organizations like Tomten give lifelong shelter and refuge to many while advocating for the billions that can’t be saved. Their educational tours show the value of farm animals as individuals, without shaming those that may have different values and beliefs around what they eat. I am proud to be a volunteer and help provide quality care to the animals at Tomten. Tomten Farm and Sanctuary deserves all the love and support they can get! -Joey
The 2.5 hour drive is worth every minute.
I first discovered Tomten Farm & Sanctuary when it was just a small farm, one mile from my house in MA. From the minute I joined that first tour, I knew it was a very special place.
The personality of each animal, whether feathered, hoofed or pawed, shined as we met each one and learned their stories from owner and founder Jen Vickery.
Not long after that tour, they moved to the White Mountain region, 150 miles away.
I had only volunteered once, but I knew that I just couldn't let those miles separate us.
Tomten is truly a place of Peace, Protection and Possibility, and quite frankly, magical, for animals and humans alike. The rescues are able to live their best lives and each one is truly valued as an individual with unique needs and care.
Jen is not only an engaging and entertaining tour guide, but also an amazing teacher who educates volunteers about animal care, animal behavior, the inner workings of the farm and safety for all. She is one of the hardest working people I've ever met. Her dedication, determination and passion are extraordinary and she, along with the board of directors, are constantly striving to do more and be more, and make a difference in the lives of animals and people.
Whether you donate, follow, visit or volunteer, know that you are supporting an organization that always goes above and beyond in everything that they do!

Tomten is amazing! The ladies who spend countless hours in the sun, rain, snow, blistering heat and frigid cold are the true superheroes! Each animal has a heartwarming story and each so deserving or peace, protection and possibilities!
It is an honor to be a part of this journey! Jen and the Board of Directors carefully vet each potential rescue as to what is workable for Tomten to best help each animal and to not impact the lives already saved. This type of care and thougthfulness is a blessing for all involved, as it affords the best possible outcome for rescues, who get to live out their lives in peace, protection and possibility, as all living things should.

I have been a follower of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for many years and proud to be a supporter. Jen and the Board of Directors are an inspiration, making this rescue a success despite many obstacles that would break weaker folks. Each new potential rescue is carefully considered, and with the help of donors and volunteers, another life is saved. I look forward to visiting again this year to meet the newer rescues. It is an honor to be a part of this journey!
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is such a wonderful, magical place. If anyone is able to pay a visit and take a tour of the facility, it would be an experience that you would never forget! The animals are healthy, happy and very friendly. The great people that run this place (and their volunteers) work tirelessly to make sure that all the animals are taken care of. It is an animal lovers paradise and is definitely worth the trip. Can't wait to get back their again.
I have been impressed at the hands on contact this rescue has with donors. There are thank you and update emails regularly. They care for numerous varieties of animals that have been rescued from various situations. Their staff and volunteers are committed to giving top notch care to the animals in their facility.♥️♥️♥️
Tomten Farm And Sanctuary is a truly magical place where beautiful animals in need are given the gift of peace, protection and possibility. I am honored to help in any way possible and to be part of their amazing journey ❤️

I have been 'following' Tomten Farm & Sanctuary since its beginning and visited several years ago when my now teenage girls were younger. We had a great tour, very memorable, simply because we could sense the love, time, and planning that's being put into the sanctuary. I feel that through the stories shared w/ followers like me on facebook and emails, I've come to know the animals very well. I find the devotion of Jen, the board, and volunteers extremely admirable --providing Peace, Protection & Possibility to the animals in their care is not easy! It's sometimes full of tough decisions and heartbreak, as well as the challenges of providing food, water and shelter for so many animals during harsh winter conditions! Clearly, this organization is making this world a better place by both educating the public about animals in need and also by giving so many deserving souls a soft place to land.
Love this amazing sanctuary. They are completely dedicated to the animals and are very fiscally responsible! Love how they work with other nonprofit organizations in the area to benefit as many animals as possible! Thank you for all you do!
I have this sanctuary listed for my Amazon smile donation. I have followed many rescues and sanctuaries for a number of years and consider Tomten far above and one of the best in updates and care and concern for the animals in their care.
Incredible farm sanctuary. I just love their passion and unwavering care for these animals. Giving them peace that that so very much deserve. Freedom and happiness to be who they are in this world. I have not been to visit the sanctuary in person yet but have followed the posts for about 3 years now. I appreciate the details they provide us in the animals stories and care. Doctors visits, feeding, supplies etc… Through the lengthy posts and great pictures I can really see what it takes to run this sanctuary. The efforts, cost and hard work is unbelievable . I always am sure to donate what I can each year because they can’t do it without us. The barns are clean and they are organized and careful about where the money is spent. I cannot personally provide this type of rescue for animals as much as I wish I could but they can, so I feel great donating. I can’t wait to visit on a tour to see this incredible place these animals can call home! Thanks Tomten! Christine H.
I was introduced to Tomten by my good friend Mary McCarthy, who volunteers there often. It began with her beautiful photos taken while tending to the animals! Then as my awareness of what they do there grew, and how wonderful it is, I began to send donations. The stories told about life there are sometimes harsh, sometimes heartbreaking; but the care for the animals, the fact that many of them were rescued from dire situations, and the generally upbeat posts from the owner and her staff are what makes it great. I am an animal lover, and I hope one day to visit there.
I learned of Jen's first sanctuary, when I began training with my puppy at Pawsitive Dog in 2013. Since then I have followed her move to NH and the founding of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in NH.
I have always been an animal lover with many dogs and cats since childhood. At 8, I rescued a kitten in a paper bag placed by a man on a Cambridge sidewalk. I have uncles who farm...even one who used draft horses for plowing fields early on, and cleared snow from sidewalks in Concord for many years. All were well taken care of and part of the family.
During my 20's to 40's I took many cross country trips traversing states where I saw a great deal of cattle, pigs, sheep, etc. packed in trucks traveling midwest highways. This really bothered me, but somehow it really did not penetrate to my thinking about the reality of what was happening. Mistreated dogs and cats, or perhaps circus animals were the only ones I allowed myself to see.
Since then I have become more educated and willing to see the mistreatment of animals. Being involved with Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is enlightening. The animals here are well loved and cared for. Each animal is treated as an individual, with the appropriate food, medical care, shelter, and love they should have. Animals form friendships with each other and with humans, once they begin to trust and appreciate the new life each has been given. Similar to human trauma, it takes patience, care, and love to heal. It's a journey, but a satisfying one.
This is an all volunteer organization and every donation goes to the animals, Everything is carefully planned...shelter building, new purchases, vet checks, farrier visits, tours etc. The animals there are prioritized before new ones are brought in, so that everyones needs are met. The Tomten website is 100% transparent about everything that is happening. It is a wonderful way to start your day when you see the animals and what is happening on the farm. No donation is too small and is spent wisely. You can prove this to yourself by putting all your change in a jar every day and see how much you find at the end of the month! You will be really surprised! Every bit counts!
Come to a Tomten Tour, follow the website, make a donation, and you too can be a strong supporter of this amazing and wonderful non profit. You will be happy you did! Harry and I are!
Beautiful people who put their all into assuring that their animal residents are well loved and well cared for the rest of their lives.
I stumbled upon Tomten Sanctuary on Facebook at a time in my life when it was needed. Needed? Post pandemic years have made us all aware of the need for good in the world and connections to those who step up to the "plate"and deliver. My first farm visit did not disappoint, Jen has the ability to educate while being entertaining and humorous kept all attentive. From the first moments of stepping onto the farm you can feel the serenity that exists . The rescues are healthy and you can see how well they are cared for and that they're content . I have been volunteering since June I'm proud to be a small part of this organization and to know the amazing women who make up the board. Peace, the serenity of the surroundings, Protections, safe from the constant noise of daily life, and Possibility , to be able to learn and interact with the magnificent rescues and the people who make this possible ring true to all.
I believe in what they do, and can tell they care deeply about each life they have in their charge. I enjoy the pictures and the stories they share happy and sad. I am glad for all the animals they are able to help.
Truly, the most dedicated nonprofit team can be found at the Tomten Farm and Sanctuary of New Hampshire! They have my unwavering support because of their consistent and loyal care they provide for every animal that they rescue. Top of the line provisions, shelters and the recognition that all animals deserve peace, protection and possibility! The team doesn't stop at caring and loving every animal on site, they then pass this on to the community with free facility tours and education. If you have time this summer or fall, don't miss out on one of these tours, it will change your life. MLPaquette
I wanted a place to memorialize my beloved husband Joe after he passed away and make the world a better place in the process. A donation to Tomten Farm and Sanctuary allowed me to do both and a beautiful bronze plaque hangs in a special place in the Tomten barn doing just that. Animals and animal rescue were such a big part of my life with Joe and it brings me comfort knowing he "is there" watching over Tomten Farm. Having been involved in animal rescue for decades, I am impressed with the top notch care this organization takes of its animals while continuing to be mindful of their ongoing sustainability. Their commitment isn't just for today, it is also for all of the tomorrows to come.
Peace, Protection and Possibility . Tomten delivers this with care and patience. They are devoted to giving every animal the opportunity to live their lives knowing they will be safe forever.
I've known Tomten for seven years...from mid-sized rescue farm to it's current size in New Hampshire. The effort and the ethic remain the same. Every creature, animals and volunteers, is valued and loved and cared for. It is truly a magical place where all the animals have names and their needs are known and fulfilled. This is rescue done right.
Visit if you can; speak your support for this work; donate; smile, knowing that such a magical place as Tomten exists.

What to say?...How to describe the magic of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary?..I've been lucky enough to be involved with Tomten for almost five years...volunteering, touring, and donating. Each time I visit, or read a post, I'm reminded that this is an enterprise built on love. Love for life, love for the outdoors, love for all creatures. and love for the downtrodden animal. who has almost been lost but is found by Jen and her Board. I love the gentleness and thought and caring that goes into every stall, shed, haybag and fence that is Tomten. I don't doubt for a minute that the animals absorb this love and feel it down to their bones.
I also want to mention the social media presence...the pictures, the beautifully written stories, the educating facts, the list goes on.
Follow these folks...donate what you can,...visit if possible. I am a better human because I have spent time at Tomten.
Tomten Farm & Sanctuary is an incredibly special place where animals get to live their best lives -- showered in the classic TFS values of peace, protection, and possibility. I've been volunteering at Tomten for several years now - I think 6! I drive from just outside of Boston for day long - and sometimes multiple day - immersive volunteer experiences. As I approach Haverhill my stresses fade away and the rolling mountains and meadows of the region welcome me in. My hours at Tomten are filled with almost equal parts chores and visiting with the rescues, and are 100% educational experiences. I learn so much every single time I visit. I learn about what's going on with the animals - old and new, what new strategies are being fine-tuned to adapt to the ever changing needs of the community, how the animals are making connections and friendships. I learn about illnesses, injuries, and exciting signs of healing. I fill hay bags, fill water tubs, clean stalls and sheds, brush goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, and ponies, I feed cats, bunnies, geese, chickens, pigs, and cow. I schlep shavings and gather droppings, I talk to the animals, I listen to the animals. I participate in exercises led by Tomten Founder Jen Vickery that support each animals needs - whether that's adjusting to the sanctuary, building trust with humans, or simply going about their best lives with a care provider asking nothing in return. The community of volunteers at Tomten is fantastic. Each visit we find time to catch up on our lives which often occurs when we are cleaning a turnout out or bagging hay. Many of us come from different places, we have different backgrounds and live vastly different lives, but we all share a profound love of the animals and a deep commitment to be apart of this organization that has such a lasting impact on so many animals lives. In addition to volunteering st Tomten, I am a sustaining donor - which means I donate a very modest gift every month through automatic payment. It is just a small gift but I know a.) as a 501(c)3 they need donations to survive b.) they use every gift to it's maximum capacity and c.) they keep me regularly informed about the impact my donations are having in the animals lives so I feel awesome about making a difference at Tomten. (Also, I get a postcard every month from the animals which always arrives on a day I need to see a picture of them - it's springs hope in my heart and remind me if what really matters in life - peace, protection and possibility.) There is no waste at Tomten! My God the things that they accomplish with so little!!! I could go on and on but simply put - every investment I put in Tomten, the rescues, and the community of volunteers, I get back tenfold in good vibes and a sense of well-being for doing my part in supporting such a worthy and impactful organization.
Thank you. Mary McCarthy
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary continues to be an impressive non-profit organization passionately dedicated to the sustainable and responsible rescue of animals in need. So, after 3 years as a board member, I feel as gratified as ever about being part of this amazing Tomten community. Therefore, I will continue to proudly remain a board member and look forward to the ever-evolving endeavors of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. My experience with this rescue over the last 6 years has expanded from helping with the care of the animals to learning about their individual needs based on their species along with their sweet and quirky personalities. Every single animal gets personalized attention with their nutritional and healthcare needs. For instance, a "buffet" of minerals is located in every shed, along with their favorite treats. With ongoing education and transparency, Tomten is the most respected organization that I have ever known. I am confident supporting Tomten will heighten your gratitude for the incredible humanity and kindness of people.

The first time I volunteered at Tomten, I was hooked. I was taught how to respectfully greet the animals and learn about each of their stories. As a sanctuary, the animals are living out their lives in peace and joy. It warms my heart to see the donkeys and ponies frolic and the sheep and horses share a tender moment eating together. This a unique organization that puts the animals and safety above all else. Tomten is a grassroots, non profit that depends solely on volunteers and donors for care and funding. The founder, Jen Vickery, shares stories and photos on FB and IG that makes you feel intimately involved in the animals' lives. Everyday, I look forward to seeing all the fun and touching photos of the animals. It's a very special place for animals and humans alike. I am honored to be a part of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary!
When I was asked if I was interested in joining the Tomten Board in 2020 I was already in love with the farm and committed to supporting them forever in providing sanctuary to animals in need. In awe of their accomplishments, the unbelievable day to day strength and fortitude demonstrated as they cared for all the Rescues with kindness and respect, addressing all healthcare needs until animals were thriving and even joyful, building relationships one step at a time.
Jen leads the Board with knowledge, passion, integrity and transparency. Which animals can we rescue? How can we improve the animals living spaces to best meet their ever changing needs? How can we raise the funds to ensure emergencies will be covered and the day to day farm work is done? Decisions are always made with sustainability in mind. Some days I don’t know how to do more, be more or learn more but Jen always does. No one can dream bigger! I’m grateful and honored to walk with Tomten, always.

Tomten is a magical place. When you visit you can breathe and within moments feel the peaceful, healthy energy. All are welcomed with respect and kindness. I’ve learned so much about safely caring for the animals and building their trust. To experience the beauty of this mountain setting and the joyful lives of the animals is a gift and a dream come true!
Just a wonder caring place. We went on a tour/ visit and it was clean and the staff, mostly volunteers were friendly and hard working. A delight to know a place like this exists.
I haven’t adopted yet but I do donate to this organization annually because I am an avid animal lover. They are one of the best and the staff are angels in what they do to take care of all the animals that are in need. Love them all.
I have been following this sanctuary for at least 2 years. The founder writes beautifully about the cherished animals and her words are a joy to read. She makes me feel better about the human race when I realize that there are people in this world that believe all animals deserve a decent life free from suffering and a cruel end. The variety of animals that are safed from lives of horror to the peaceful humane sanctuary is impressive as well. I wish more humans could do what this sanctuary does and I value them highly.
I have been following Tomten for some time now. Their goals and mission align very well with mine. As a veterinarian, I can attest the care they provide is second to none. I only wish all animals could be so lucky.
A wonderful and magical place where precious animals rescued from unthinkable situations reside with peace, protection and possibility. The organization is passionate about respecting the lives of all animals and it shows in every single thing that they do. The animal residents come first and that priority is one of the many reasons why Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is such a special, special place.

Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a magical place where peace, protection, and possibility are felt in the air, in the pastures, in the stalls, in the cozy shelters for the beautiful friends that call this special place home. TFS is run 100% on donations and believe me when I say that Jen and the BOD squeeze every bit out of each penny— ALL for the rescued animals. As a monthly donor, I feel happy and at peace knowing exactly where my donations go—Jen’s transparency about business matters on the farm provides a confidence and a sense of satisfaction for all donors. Long live and Long Love Tomten Farm and Sanctuary.
Tomten is a fantastic sanctuary. They are the gold standard when it comes to giving animals a safe secure and loving home. Just have a look at their posts, volunteers and the animals… it’s pure love❤️❤️❤️
A small and extraordinarily dedicated team rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring deeply for animals who have run out of options- ie, slaughter or severe neglect cases, and giving them a second chance for a truly wonderful life..I am so proud to support this NH treasure of a sanctuary

Look at those faces. This crew knows they are safe, they are loved and will be as long as they roam the pastures of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. Thanks to Tomten, they can slowly shrug off the fear of the pens that would have led to their unspeakable ends; they get the food they need to fill empty stomachs and and slowly hide the ribs that protruded so badly. They see the dentist, get pedicures (AKA hoof care), are brushed till their coats are shiny, kept warm when the snow drifts blow. They get Jimmys; hay, special grains for their dietary needs. They exist, they live because Tomten was able to rescue them. And TOMTEN was/is able to do that because of careful management and donors who open their hearts and wallets.
LOVE, LOVING CARE, A WATCHFUL EYE, A VISIONARY EYE, RESPECT, GRATITUDE, DRIVE, WILL, GRIT, DETERMINATION, PATIENCE, GIVING.
These are words the Tomten Board, Volunteers, Vets, Hoof Trimmers, Fence Builders, and so many others who contribute to Tomten, live by.
Rescues DO because they love, they WATCH and WORRY because they care, they DREAM because they want more, always more, for the animals in their care; THEY DO WHAT THEY MUST, day in and day out because their professions , hearts or personal experiences led them to walk these paths.
I have a bucket list item - and it's to finally make my way from South Florida to New Hampshire to meet these goofball donkeys and all their barn/pasture mates and fellow Tomten inhabitants. To meet the Tomten humans who give so much, yet want to do so much more. Humans and animals alike - those at Tomten make my heart smile. Invite them into yours - follow their stories, donate as you can...it's endeavor that's so very special.

I have followed Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for about 2 years now. Tomten is run fully by a Board that works tirelessly and without pay. Think about that. They give often more than should be humanly possible, putting their personal lives aside and putting in hours of work to care for over 50 animals - horses, cows, donkeys, geese, cats, dogs, chickens, and goats.
Oh - and rabbits, and roosters.
All of those creatures were at risk at some point in their lives, of losing their lives. Because Tomten stepped up to advocate and be their angels, these animals now live their best lives.
Tomten is very forthright in sharing the harder side of rescue - that being the one's they couldn't go to bat for, the one's that got left behind and met a devastating end. Those stories shared are hard to read - I can't deny that and it often hurts my heart. Time after time, I wonder where the ladies of Tomten find the inner strength to look that horror in the eye and save those that they can. How they make peace with that weight, I don't know.
What I do know is that Tomtens never waiver from the mission to provide safe environments for the animals under their care. They are very thoughtful in planning and building for the future of Tomten. Fiscally responsible and always, always trying to do more with what they have.
My bucket list is to get to meet the wonderful humans who run Tomten and to spend time with the much loved inhabitants they have rescued. I can't say enough good things about this great sanctuary and those that run it. I would highly encourage everyone who has a love of animals great and small, to follow Tomten and support them in any way that is comfortable, all in the name of giving animals at risk, a chance of becoming healthy and living their life in peace and protection.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary are consistently transparent with how monies are used In support of the animals in their care. They have shown to be loving and compassionate caretakers to all the animals they have rescued. I love the pictures and backstories of their rescues that show them receiving love, peace, and protection in the environment they are living in. I highly recommend you visit their website and see for yourself the unwavering devotion to all those in their care!
I choose to support Tomten Farm and Sanctuary because of its passionate commitment to providing peace and protection to each and every animal that is blessed to call Tomten its home.

I am fortunate to volunteer at Tomten for a couple of years. It's solely staffed by volunteers and a very dedicated Board. The founder Jenn, is a tremendous teacher and has given her heart and soul to the farm. Every lovely creature on the farm is well cared for and truly loved. I'm also a monthly donor. It's been a pleasure watching the farm grow these past years and I'm excited for the future.

how could anyone say "no" to this face? cows are so unassuming and unobtrusive it can be all too easy to overlook one of God's most wonderful creations. some years back when i lived in another town not too far from my current residence there were several dozen of these unpretentious animals who grazed in the pasture on the other side of my vegetable garden fence. i'd never realized how much cows love being petted and enjoyed munching on lettuce and other greens! and when they sang together they made such harmonious "moosic!" still miss those days.
This rescue not only helps the animals of many varieties that it rescues but also helps to educate others about the animals and rescue. They strive to be fiscally responsible and futuristic in their vision. The animals in their care are fortunate to have found their forever home with Tomten.
Amazing organization, so many animals are blessed to get to call this place home. Kind-hearted souls. I love watching the animals heal and evolved into healthy peaceful creatures. Many blessings to them for many many more years!
Love what they do and what they stand for. We are long-time supporters and will continue to help Tomten give peace, protection, and possibility to Rescues.
I eagerly support the work done by Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. I do not live in the area, but happened to see a post on Facebook one day about this rescue group. The animals that have been saved by Tomten are very lucky indeed, as this group goes all in for each and every life they save. They truly live up to their motto of "peace, protection, and possibility." The rescued animals are living their best lives at Tomten, and the board of volunteer women who run the sanctuary manage the day-to-day care of the rescues in all kinds of conditions and continue to rescue new animals as they are able. Each animal is gifted everything they need to live out their lives comfortably and safely. To say the animals are blessed is a definite understatement. Above all, each animal is genuinely loved. Please consider donating to Tomtem Farm and Sanctuary so that more lives can be saved. Read the story of how Tomten came to be and how and why each animal was rescued. You will be moved by each story and will feel blessed to become a part of this inspiring group of people and animals of all kinds. Every donation made goes directly to the care of the animals so you can feel good knowing you are helping save some truly deserving lives. I know my life has been enriched by being a part of this rescue. Yours will be too.

I am not really sure how I happened upon this animal rescue and sanctuary. I am so glad I did. They are truly super heroes for the animals they take in, providing peace, protection, and possibility for each precious life. I so enjoy hearing the story behind each animal and how they came to this life-saving place. You can see the look of serenity on each and every face. If you are looking for a place where you can make a real difference, please consider making a donation to this sanctuary. These animals deserve the best life, and your donation can help the folks at Tomten provide this for them.
I There are many good shelters and animal sanctuaries in this world, thank god, and we could use so many more. But what makes Tomten Farm stand out from all the rest is the thoughtfulness with which they approach their goals, their overall mission and above all, the individual rescues they commit to. What they offer to the animals they rescue is more than just food and shelter; more than medical care and special needs; it’s individual respect and love for each animal according to their needs. That takes more thought and energy than is required to provide shelter alone.

All the staff and volunteers work so hard to provide safe and loving sanctuary for animals who are in so much need. It takes so much hard physical labor, money, endless hope and optimism to do what they do. I’m a small donor but I am so proud to be one. Every little bit helps and this organization deserves our support.
I found out about Tomten from watching a local news show. The work Jen and the volunteers do at Tomten Farm and sanctuary is so heartwarming. These people give so much of themselves. The animals that end up there are so very lucky.
I follow the goings on via Facebook. These posts update us on the daily workings of keeping all these animals safe, as well as educating people on the fate many of these animals would have had.
Thank you for providing food, shelter and love to these wonderful, furry, wooly,
feather-y beings that needed a chance at health and happiness. Tomten Farm is a gift and truly live by their mantra of “Peace, Protection and Possibility.”
It is an easy choice to choose to donate to Tomten Farm and Sanctuary. Not only do they do amazing work with each animal they are able to help, they also are fiscally responsible and very transparent in their communication. I was fortunate to be able to meet board members, volunteers, other donors, and all the animals during a tour earlier this fall. Their commitment and care of the animals is top notch. I highly recommend supporting this worthy cause.
I came across Tomten through a friend on Facebook. They were trying to raise money to save an animal, and I was impressed by the way they broke down and explained the costs so that you understood what you were contributing to. I made a small donation and then began to see them in my feed and was further impressed by the care they give to so many animals. Decided to set up a too small but doable monthly donation. Since then, I have not only continued to be impressed by their work and love for the animals, I have also received handwritten thanks on postcards with gorgeous pics of the animals. Every time they post, I learn something or am sharing in the joy of these lucky animals. The fact that everyone there is volunteering is amazing to me. The love and care is obvious, and I love being able to vote in names for new animals. Life is tough, but being involved with Tomten continues to bring me happiness.
I’ve supported Tomten for two years and became a monthly recurring donor in 2021. I so admire the hard work and dedication of Jen and the board members but I’ve never had the chance to see the farm in person until this weekend. It’s so moving to see all the animals and hear their stories - and if they’re curious about you and want to say hi, you get to give them some love. What a peaceful place for these beautiful animals to live. I highly recommend supporting Tomten and going to meet these incredible women.
Tomten is a special place where animals receive loving care by a 100% volunteer organization committed to animal welfare. I had a rare chance to visit their farm and see first hand the hard work Jen and her team provide to many different types of farm animals.
This past weekend I was so fortunate to take a tour of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in Haverhill, NH. I was so impressed. Jen, the founder and the board members were all so incredibly informative, welcoming, and kind. Hearing the animal's stories, what they've been through (or are going through) and how they've suffered in their previous life was so heartbreaking, but my heart is so full knowing they get to spend their days at this beautiful home where they are so loved and cared for and they just get to be themselves. And Jen and the board members do everything they can to ensure the animals feel safe with all of us around. I will definitely be back....as often as I can.
I am an avid animal lover and would much prefer spending time in a barn instead of an office. What a wonderful gift it was for me to discover "Tomtem" through a friend who is also a volunteer. A day spent watching and learning how these amazing volunteers and board members truly make a difference in the life of an animal lifted my spirits just when I needed that most.
“Never be embarrassed by how much you care about animals and how they're treated.”

I have been following Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for a few months and just completed a tour of Tomten this weekend. The Board members (all volunteers) are so passionate, knowledgeable and caring. It is obvious how much care they and the other volunteers put into the sanctuary, how well the animals are loved and cared for, and how well the facilities and grounds are taken care of. I cannot wait to visit again and hopefully, in the future, volunteer my time at Tomten. They truly go above and beyond for these deserving animals and provide "Peace, protection and possibility."
I had never heard of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in Haverhill, NH. But after our tour on Sunday 6/12, I found a 35 acre farm that is dedicated to the "Peace, Protection, and Possibility for Animals in Need."
All the animals we visited with are in amazing health and the facilities are immaculate.
These 50 or so animals are so lucky to have been found by Tomten.
Jen and Tomten Farm and Sanctuary team. Thank you for all you do sharing your wealth of knowledge about all animals! It’s educational, interesting, even through the good and bad.
I have followed Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for several years now, as my wife volunteers there (as does my daughter, when she can). Here are some of the things that, in my view, make Tomten special: (1) Everyone associated with Tomten works as a volunteer. No-one is paid a penny. Indeed, the opposite is true; most if not all volunteers are also donors, including all the board members. It’s truly hard work keeping the farm running and the animals healthy and happy, day in and day out, but no-one’s in it for gain or glory. It’s genuinely a labor of love. (2) The welfare of the animals ALWAYS comes first, every decision, every thought, every time. (3) Jenifer and the Board have a vision and a plan, as well as contingency plans for every foreseeable emergency, to make certain that the animals they take in can live out their full lives in peace, come what may. It takes serious commitment, as well as careful organization and planning, to provide for the animals’ welfare not just today but also tomorrow, next year, and beyond. (4) While providing a safe and healthy home for the animals is paramount, Tomten’s mission also encompasses education and outreach. (5) Tomten is ideologically inclusive. They are not interested in judging, or in pushing a narrow vision of what it means to care about animals. Listening to Jen give a tour of the farm makes it clear that Tomten believes that any appreciation of animal welfare has value, and that individuals can incorporate this concern into their lives to different extents and in their own ways. (6) Tomten makes it a priority to support local small businesses whenever possible. (7) Jenifer, the founder of Tomten, is one of the most dedicated, devoted, and all-round capable people I’ve ever met.
I first heard of Tomten when they were on our local tv station asking for needed money to help keep their sanctuary running. After looking into the organization I found that they help rescue large animals that most people do not want. They are constantly sending photos of all of the animals and how well they are doing at their new location. I appreciate the love for all animals that these volunteers have and I will continue to support their sanctuary to help love these animals.
I can't say enough about what Jen and her team are doing at Tomten. They inspire me every day with their passion for saving animals. Do more, be more, give more - words for us all to live by! I have stopped eating meat from factory farms, and I doubt my journey will end there. Our family is proud to support Tomten as they give peace, protection, and possibility.
We have visited Tomten Farm several times and we have never seen such a dedicated, hard working group of large animal caretakers anywhere. Jen is a great leader and organizer and her vision of caretaking for large animals has quickly become a reality. If you read her "virtual tour" series you will be amazed at what she is doing and the energy she has. We are so impressed, we donate monthly, and we will be leaving a significant donation when our estate is settled. Tony & Debbie
I live about 10 minutes away from Tomten Farm and Sanctuary.
Jen and everyone else that devotes their time and unswerving love have created such a wonderful haven for all the animals they have rescued.
I am proud to be associated with their family!
This place is a great caring sanctuary doing a lot of wonderful things for their rescues. They keep you posted on what is happening by e-mails and videos.
Check them out and help them out with a donation if you can.
I have been following and donating to this Sanctuary for years. They quite literally care about every single life they encounter and I appreciate that. So transparent and honest. I can't wait to visit some day!
I have been following and
monthly donating to Tomten Farm for a few years now and have learned so much about their animals from the beautiful post, always educational and heartwarming to see such dedication for their animals peace and tranquility. I hope to visit this year . I look forward to their continued growth as they follow their future visions of helping animals in need .
This place is heaven on earth for beautiful souls who, if not for Tomten, would have met a sad, cruel and undeserving end. Instead, they are living out their lives in peace and comfort surrounded by love.
The care, kindness, compassion and respect that is shown to each animal is truly heartwarming. The all volunteer team are the most dedicated and hard working people anywhere and their devotion to each and every life on the sanctuary is evident. They know what each animal needs and they give it.
They also keep all of us donors and friends informed almost daily. It’s wonderful to see what a difference we all can make.
I am proud to be a monthly donor to such a caring, responsible and loving farm. They are incredible!
I’ve been following Tomten Farm for over a year now and continue to be impressed by their daily pictures and stories of animals living out the rest of their lives in peace and love. Every animal on the farm has a story of how they came to Tomten. Humans don’t always think about the long term care and love that are involved with owning a pet. Once the newness is gone, there is less and less attention given, and the once coveted pet gets lost. People don’t always have the financial means to properly take care of animals.
We’ve all seen TV stories of animals making a last ditched effort to avoid becoming hamburger and escape before being processed. Yes, I eat hamburger, but when you see stories like this, you can’t help but root for the animal to be caught and be sent to somewhere like Tomten to live out the rest of their life in beautiful NH and to be cared for by loving volunteers. I don’t know all of the animals stories from Tomten, but this is my vision of what can happen there.
I also find myself moved by photos of animals with deformities and disabilities. It reminds me that in life, everyone is beautiful, every creature is beautiful, inside and out.
I was so moved by Tomten to create a fundraiser in honor of my mother, who passed away one year ago. She loved animals. My dad told me a story of how my Mom once found $20. She refused to keep it for herself and made my dad drive her to the local animal shelter to donate it to them. She is smiling from above now, knowing that a donation was made in her name to such a worthy recipient.
The best part of the above mentioned fundraiser is that now, Tomten Farm and Sanctuary had that many more followers. The best post on Facebook on a regular basis is an update on what is happening on Tomten. The stories of the animals and the weather reports remind me of how much time
And TLC is devoted DAILY to these beautiful creatures. This is truly one of the best, nonprofit organizations I’ve ever seen.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is an unbelievable rescue organization that goes beyond that extra mile! The dedication and caring of its board and volunteers is unbelievable. In all kinds of weather they are there for these lucky creatures who have been given that awesome chance to live the lives they deserve. It warms my heart to see the transformation that occurs once they arrive here. I especially love the chance they give us to name them! I live too far away to be a volunteer but I applaud those that do and support them by being a continuing donor.
Love this organization! So much love and compassion for animals who deserve our help. They work incredibly hard and make such a difference. A wonderful group of people doing amazing things.
I’ve been a Tomten volunteer, monthly donor and a former board member for six years. This is my absolute “happy place”! I learn something new each and every time that I am at the farm. The time that Jen dedicates to everyone involved is amazing. I look forward to every visit. The camaraderie between volunteers and board members is what makes me look forward to each and every visit. The hard work is both amazing and rewarding and I can’t think of any better place to volunteer .
At this time of year, especially, the people of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary are dedicated to the care and love of every rescued animal. It is a beautiful farm where horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, cats, and bunnies live in peaceful surroundings without fear of abandonment, starvation or abuse. I gladly am a monthly donor...I wish I could do more. Thank you to everyone at Tomten for bringing peace, protection and possibility to every creature in their care, and for those to come.
I stumbled upon this sanctuary years ago. I have never seen any sanctuary love their animals any more than Tomten. Through bitter cold and pipes frozen, they find a way for these animals. They put these animals over their own struggles and never complain. Many of the caretakers also have full time jobs. I don’t know how they do it say in and say out without burnout.
They are respectful of all animals who come to live out their days in peace. There is no forced interactions. They only take on what they can financially handle. They are true trustees of the donations. Nothing frivolous. They are a not for profit that manages to always put the needs of their animals first. You can tell by looking at rhe animals that they are at peace and know they will never hurt again. As someone who wishes they could save every animal, they are very fiscally responsible. I just love them.
Tomten is an amazing animal sanctuary! Jen, the board of directors and all the volunteers do such an amazing job of taking care of the animals in all the weather New Hampshire has. The animals are given all the time they need to be able to get used to their surroundings and the humans taking care of them.

Tomten is an animal sanctuary in a small town of NH. They are committed to making life for their animals full of love, peace, protection and possibilities. The animals are so well taken care of and loved. They are a non- profit run by a board of directors and funded solely through donations and can use all the support they can get. Judy Fuller
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a very well run organization run by a wonderful person named Jen who always puts the animals care and best interests first. I’ve worked with this organization multiple times during multiple horse rescues and it is always a pleasure to work beside them while helping animals in need.
This is the model for an Animal Sanctuary. The care they take for the animals in need is the best of the best. They also work to educate visitors and supporters as to how the sanctuary works, what the animals need, and how we can help. It’s an amazing place and I have learned so much from the great women behind the nonprofit. I try to visit each year if there is an opportunity to do so and I learn something new and meet a blessed new rescue each time. I will continue to support Tomten and hope that everyone joins in too.

The members of this organization are beyond dedicated in all they do - saving and enriching the lives of many species, providing nourishing care, advocating for and educating about animals in need who can’t speak for themselves. They have a clear mission, walk the talk, and make it happen.

I became aware of Tomten watching the news. They initiated a story during the pandemic to bring awareness to their own plight and that of other nonprofits as well. I deeply appreciate when an organization is transparent and communicative of their own mission while also recognizing and promoting the missions of their fellow nonprofit community. In short, Tomten is exceptional! Follow them on Facebook and you’ll quickly see what I mean.
There are no words to describe the amazing work the ladies at Tomten do each and every day. You must go visit in person to SEE for yourself the peace and protection the animals feel. It is palpable. The commitment and responsibility they make to ensure that each rescue can be taken care of is wonderful. Their transparency at all times is what allows our family to trust that our donations are making a difference. These animals have a piece of my heart, and Jen and her volunteers are my heroes.
Since I first stepped onto Tomten Farm to take a tour I knew this was a special place. Being surrounded by the rescues and hearing their stories is an amazing experience. I knew I wanted to go back and get involved- I’m now lucky enough to be a volunteer.
Tomten truly makes a difference not only in the lives of the animals but the people who are touched by their mission. They work tirelessly to make the dream of peace, protection and possibility come true.
I was lucky to have been involved with Tomten when it was located in Bolton and met Mary Matilda when she was a foal; so I do have a favorite at Tomten! But beyond that, seeing all the rescues and learning about them is fantastic. What’s better than seeing the pigs with pumpkins, horses hanging with their best friends, the goats browsing on branches, hearing the donkeys braying and on it goes!
Thanks to Jen, I learned barn basics and natural horsemanship—and still learning. Last summer, I attended a hands-on workshop at Tomten where we safely and respectfully learned how to approach horses and allow them to approach us—the importance of our gait and body language as well as reading their body language. After the workshop, we helped fill hay nets. My technique left much to be desired compared to others who were old hands at it. I spent only a short time filling a few nets and I still have a hard time imagining what it takes to fill ALL the nets every day—and that is just ONE of the daily chores that is needed for the animals regardless of rain, snow, sleet, freezing cold, etc. In my book, only superheroes are up to the tasks.
I believe that Tomten is the epitome of what a rescue should be. Since I don’t live close enough to volunteer at Tomten, I donate monthly as well as in support of fund-drives for new rescues or special needs. It’s not much, but I believe in Jen’s dream to help as many animals in need as possible, and that All contributions help in some way.
Peace and love to all at Tomten—Wendy
When I first heard about "the Tomten" I was on a dirt road next to a paddock. Jen, the tour guide and President of this all-volunteer rescue group was quizzing the tour: "Who can tell me about the Tomten?"
Initially, I did not understand the legendary creature who came out every night to make sure all of the barn and field animals are well. Tucking them each in for comfort and with love. Protecting them and providing care - looking out for their lives and well being.
But with each animal I met on that tour and with each story Jen told of a life prior to coming to Tomten, it made me want to do more and be more. To help this group of volunteers be "The Tomten" for these animals.
It has been my great honor to volunteer a bit in the hot and cold weather of New Hampshire. But since most people don't live within driving distance, what can you do? How about setting up an automatic monthly donation? Or share some of the beautiful photos and stories Jen posts (Instagram and Facebook) with your friends - and multiply the reach! Maybe you know how to get grocery stores to donate fruits and veggies to the 4 pigs? Every one of us can contribute. Every one can be a part of providing peace, protection, and possibilities for these wonderful Sanctuary animals.

Whether you love sheep, horses, chickens, cows, pigs (get the idea?), Tomten Sanctuary will knock your socks off. As you meet the residents, you learn about their journey to the farm - through loss to love, from fear to certainty, some even reuniting with old companions. Now they live at the Sanctuary in comfort, safety, and peace. Some can be adopted out to enjoy a family life, but most will live out their days with medical support, companionship, and care provided by volunteers with a heart of compassion. After spending some time at Tomten, you will want to tell all of your friends and figure out a way to support this great organization.
So, I'm sometimes asked when I talk about Tomten, there are billions of animals living horrible lives and suffering awful deaths at our hands, why single out these few at Tomten for rescue, for a good life if only nearer the end? It seems a good question, but it isn't. Can you imagine asking this question about an orphanage in which the same could be said about the children there? It wouldn't even occur to you because we accept that each of those children's lives is unique, each is divine in its own way whether for you that divinity is from imminence or from transcendence or from both. It is only by ignoring the divinity clearly there, clear that is when you are attuned to them, in our fellow creatures, the ones who do not share our species, that the question even occurs to us. So that is why my wife and I believe in Tomten,
But why this rescue? Why not others? There are others that are surely worthy of the time, money, and love we put into Tomten, but there is, it seems to us, something magic about this place. Whenever I go to visit a farm, I know I am visiting a place that has an owner of the land, the animals, the plants, and those huge machines by which all this is managed. When I go to Tomten, my immediate sense is that this isn't true: no person owns it -- not Jen, not the Board, not even the contributors --the animals do. It is their home, their place, in a way other farms have never been and could never be for them. We are there thanks to their hospitality -- you feel that -- and they ask only that you recognize this truth.
Beyond this, and through the creative genius of Jen and the Board, anyone can by reading posts, participating in online activities, contributing, and the occasional visit, acquire a sense of being there, not just being part of it, but being there. When Jen tells me she is freezing, tired, but happy, I'm suddenly freezing tired and happy too as if I had helped. This is brilliance and it is a brilliance that comes from a love. And that love if forever infectious.
So do read the posts, participate, and do, please contribute. I hope that many of you will visit Tomten one day and experience its magic.

I have worked in animal rescue for over 40 years in many areas of the country and this is one of the greatest rescues/ sanctuaries I have ever encountered. Jen and the other board members and volunteers are incredibly hard-working, self-sacrificing, and compassionately motivated. The animals who find themselves at Tomten are the luckiest ones and can look forward to a life of peace, comfort, love, and superior care. I am proud to know this group and support them in every way I can. I am grateful that there are still those who will try where they are, with what they have, to undo some of the bad things done to our animal brethren.
To me this is a 10 star nonprofit! There are no secrets, every expense is accounted for, needs are always explained. Life on the farm is a shared experience with donors. I have learned so much about the needs and health of each animal rescued, and cried over those that have passed. I have not had a car to visit, but now that I do I hope to bring grandchildren to visit with me this summer. If it was possible for me to volunteer I would, nothing like a farm of happy animals! Everyone of those animals show their gratitude and love in their eyes, as do my rescued dog and cat. I am amazed that Jen finds the time to do all she does for the animals and still takes the time to keep donors updated every day! She is a wonderful writer. And yesterday she even took the time to call and leave me a voice mail of thanks! Of all the donations I have sent to animal organizations I have never received a response much less a thank you! I only wish I could give more to this superb organization.

This sanctuary truly loves, understands and takes the best care of the animals who have not been so loved in the past. It is reflected in their faces and sometimes "smiles". I love the stories of each and every new addition to the farm. Supporters are continually updated and made to feel part of the farm even though not able to visit. I will always support thru Smile and monthly contributions.
I support Tomten Farm and Sanctuary because they are taking real action to give animals peace and protection. They carry the endless physical labor, brain work & emotional burden of running a farm. After all that - they still find time to generously share the experience through beautiful, heartfelt writing and photos. Going the extra mile to communicate and educate expands the impact of donor dollars beyond the Tomten farmyard.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a magical place. Just like the Swedish Tomtens, this place protects, nurtures and cares for all varieties of animals. The amazing thing I found is that those animals know this is a safe place and respond accordingly. As I said, there is a magic to the place and a special magic in the relationship between Jenifer, Laima, the board members, the volunteers and the animals. I look forward to visiting Tomten Farm and Sanctuary again.
Tomten is a wonderful farm sanctuary that operates with a huge amount of compassion, love, responsibility, foresight, imagination and just plain old hard work. Their transparent communications are impressive, which gives donors a real sense of "being there" especially for long distance ones like me. The mantra and mission of peace, protection and possibility is shown over and over in the care and understanding shown each resident and especially each new addition. Additions are undertaken very cautiously and responsibly, making sure that the plans are both affordable and practical. Public education is a focus, and farm tours given to the public from time to time further that goal. With a lot of hard work, the farm is operated by the founder and a dedicated group of volunteers. It is amazing to know that all donations go for the benefit and upkeep of the animals. I have to give them A+ for animal care, communication, creative fund raising and public education, all while maintaining an operating farm. The dedication to the animal is very evident, which makes it a rewarding experience to follow along on their journey. Cheryl C
Tomten is a top notch sanctuary! They treat each and every animal with extreme tenderness and passion! The Owner (Jen) and her crew put the sanctuary before themselves. If you ever have a chance to visit, BOOK that visit...you will be blown away.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is the most magical place I’ve ever experienced. Founder, Jenifer Vickery, is an incredible human being. I am in awe when I think of how much she has accomplished and all of the backbreaking & heartbreaking work she does every day 24/7. With only a handful of dedicated and tireless volunteers, she has saved a farm full of lucky animals from the grips of certain death. The peace, safety and happiness they get to experience is something I wish every animal could share. Just knowing that such a sanctuary exists brings tranquility and joy to my heart.
Tomten is the blueprint that all rescues/sanctuaries should follow. I love how they are totally transparent, whether good news or bad. They have a wonderful plan for the future and are always working towards it. The animals are truly the winners here, and you can tell just by their pictures that they post. I have been lucky enough to be a tiny part of their adventure for several years and I only wish I could do more. Thank you Tomten!
Jen and all the volunteers at Tomten Farm are amazing and caring people who go out of their way to make each and every rescued animal feel safe. Such a compassionate group of people ❤️
Their engagement with their community of supporters is unparalleled. They have graciously taken care of four retired ewes from a farm next door to me, and so while I do not live close by, I follow their activities closely. They are a really impressive group, and I say that with a long history of donating to and serving on the boards of animal welfare organizations. Tomten is truly a special place.
I donate to this wonderful place whenever I can. If you follow them you will see continuous updates on all the precious animals they save. I like to support different nonprofits for animals and this one just has so much love for them. Continue to do what you do best - taking care of these lovables. I will continue to share your posts. Thank you for all you do.
The length these folks go to keep the animals safe, well fed, well cared for, but most importantly loved, is amazing. The residents of this Sanctuary have been discarded for various and life was uncertain for them. For these fortinate animals, they landed at Tomten!
Tomten is a nonprofit like no other. It’s board is filled with kind, caring individuals who are dedicated to improving the lives of the sweet animals on their farm. Tomten’s vision is to provide a sanctuary of peace and possibility, and they achieve that every day through the generosity of their supportive donors.
I love the Tomten Sanctuary! I live close by so I tend to visit off snd on . I always see horses donkeys goats pigs ponies ducks you name it in a place where they can stay in away from the cold and wind or outside at their pleasure ! These people who own the Tomten are amazing totally amazing they keep such good care of all their animals and off and on find a horse or pony or donkey what have you that is about to go to slaughter. They somehow find a way through donors and themselves to buy these animals and bring them home to their now forever home ! How caring and loving they are and how happy all the animals faces seem to me . I love what they do , they care so tenderly for all these animals . How wonderful you are Tomten thank God for you!

To make a real difference every single moment of every single day is one of the most incredible gifts anyone could ask for…Tomten Farm and Sanctuary…it’s founder, it’s BOD’s, it’s volunteers, it’s supporters, it’s followers make this happen…they make the lives of every Horse, Donkey, Cow, Pig, Goat, Sheep, Cat, Dog, Rabbit and Feather Friend simply AMAZING❣️
Tomten is a miracle. A true sanctuary for farm and similar animals. Don’t forget the bunnies and the feral cats.
Magestic horses previously on the verge of collapse, donkeys giving you an eye of mischief where previously there had been pain and hunger, truly rescued.
The previous owners either lacked the finances or abilities to deal with “toward the end of the road” animals.
Tomten was a salvation for them as well.
Tomten is a sanctuary for animals, which allows people, from a distance, to gently observe the vision that is Tomten.
No narrative can do this miracle justice. There are periodic tours so you can share the experience. Horses, ponies, donkeys, pigs, cats, goats, cows, geese, and more, all rescued. The cost is minimal and all goes to the farm.
The tour is a blessing and an opportunity for all ages. Please come.
I’ve never been to the farm but would love to some day. Absolutely love reading your “save” stories (you should really write a book “in your spare time”) I live in Florida but grew up in New England, you’ve got a huge heart. Try to stay warm ❤️
I have not yet been able to visit Tomten in person but I have followed for many years, including their move. I love all the posts and feel like I know the animals and people involved. What a great group of people that keep the sanctuary running and I love the Tomten story as well. I don’t have much money but when I have extra it goes to this wonderful sanctuary. So much love. Peace, protection and possibility. I will be there in person first chance I get. ❤️❤️❤️
What a wonderful rescue! The beautiful farm with fresh food , water and shelter these lucky souls get to live the rest of their lives on is like out of a story book. The owner not only has a heart of gold to rescue these animals but a realistic approach to how to actually succeed. There are many people who love animals and want to save them all but put into the hands of someone who doesn’t understand the time and money it takes, they can end up needing a rescue all over again. I like how Tomten posts not only what circumstances brought each animal to the farm , but posts the everyday details like supplies and tasks it takes to care for the animal. I thank God for people and rescues like Tomten Farm and Sanctuary!
I wished there were more stars. This group is an amazing collection of talent, grit, grace and heart.
I met them when they first moved to town, then did a tour of this magical place and can't wait to attend again to see all the new additions.
The animals are amazing and you can see their happiness.
TOMTEN is a cut above. It's all about the animals. ✝️
The miracles that Jen and the rest of the organization at Tomten Farm accomplish is exemplary. Their hard work and dedication to saving the lives of animals and providing them with peace and comfort for the rest of their lives is only one of the reasons why I continue to donate to Tomten; another one being that 100% of their donations goes to the animals and not many organizations can say that that is the case.
Not only do they provide peace to animals, they keep donors updated with phenomenal content on Facebook and Instagram. I can see how happy the animals are and I love reading the captions with each great photo. They also provide ample opportunities for donors to come and visit the farm and meet the Tomten crew. Every time I make a donation, I know that those funds are going to animals in need and will continue to support the amazing life saving services Tomten provides.
My kids and I visited Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in June 2019. From the moment we arrived we knew that all the animals at Tomten were cared for and loved. I have been supporting Tomten for a few years now and the amazing transformation these innocent beings show over time is so incredibly beautiful. I have followed the story of “Grace” and how the Grace mobile came about. I have followed “Freya’s” journey and she totally thrives at Tomten. I have been on the journey of the six donkeys and my name suggestion was used for one of them “Amelia Braydelia”. Witnessing these beautiful donkeys transform from scared innocents to blossoming innocents has warmed my heart so much. The ladies who have founded and run Tomten are truly superheroes. I have so much respect for Jen and Laima, and all who are Tomten. I truly recommend supporting Tomten. Follow them on Facebook and see the amazing lives saved who enjoy Peace, Protection and Possibility…all a result of one woman’s dream. ❤️ If I lived closer I definitely would volunteer my time to these beautiful animals, but for now, I enjoy my journey with them from afar and financially support them as best as I can. Please follow them on Facebook and see for yourself how amazing Tomten is, I guarantee…you will agree. Photos I took during our visit.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is nothing short of MAGICAL! Take a moment to read any one of their posts and you'll instantly sense the dedication and love they give in what they do. Rescue can't be easy. Long, hard days, sometimes hard choices, but Tomten never wavers in their effort to provide peace, protection and possibility to the many Iives they have welcomed.

Tomten is all about peace, protection and possibility. A terrific organization made up of passionate people saving as many animals as they can. Please support their efforts !
I have been a supporter of Tomten Farm for several years. These special people have always gone out of their way to help all animals in need. When I read the story of how Tomten came to be, I decided to make a special donation in honor and memory of Sturgeon Moon, Jen's first horse. Her story inspired the founding of this incredible sanctuary, where all lives matter.
I never expected a personal call thanking me for caring. As busy as this all volunteer group of dedicated and compassionate people are, they took the time to say thank you and chat for quite a while on a cold and dreary night when hot tea and sleep would have been everyone else's choice.
Read Jen's story and listen to her read The Tomten to some of the residents of the sanctuary, as she does each year. You, too, will be inspired to do more, be more.
Tomten sanctuary is most caring with all their animals ❤. They go above and beyond for each individual soul. I have been there to volunteer and it is impressive the protection that they follow.
A huge thank you for all that you do! A 100% volunteer organization doing the incredible 365 days per year. Truly a place of peace, protection and possibilities! I have recently become aware of Tomten and I have not personally visited (yet) however these ladies inspire, educate and make the world a better place! I am in awe of the strength it takes to care for the unwanted animals with such love, dedication and responsibility by always striving to do more making difficult decisions to sustain Tomten. I have learned so much about the hidden and darker side of animal husbandry and have been so inspired to do better. These ladies live and shine their truth in love like a beacon. Thank you

I have been following Tomten Farm and Sanctuary for a couple years, donating to their fundraising efforts, and have seen their strong dedication to provide animals in need with peace, protection and possibilities. Tomten is committed to the health and well being of all the animals in their care. I enjoy being a part of their journey, getting to know the animals back stories and watching them grow and thrive at Tomten through virtual tours, updates posts, photos and postcards.

For the last few years, I have closely followed the work of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary—not only through their posts online, but also by volunteering at the farm. I have never seen such care and commitment from any nonprofit organization with which I have worked. Seeing how well the animals are treated and how happy they are brings me such joy.
As a Grandma to 2 horses and a dog. I know how hard taking care of them is in this freezing cold weather is. They do a wonderful job here!
I love this farm. I have never physically been to it, but I was raised on a little place like it. So much physical work goes into keeping it running. I have avidly followed for more than 4 years, my awareness has been raised to the plight of farm animals and how awful they are treated. Watching them come and change over time is a beautiful gift.
They are transparent about how funds are spent, how much money it costs and what a joy, pain it is to rescue. Jen with her writing ability will take you with her throughout the day and months.
Thank you everyone for all the hard work.
If you want a great place to donate…
Jen and her team are amazing!! They are doing great work and always with a wonderful sense of humor:)
Besides reading the wonderful posts and the photos that keep me connected, I smile when my small monthly recurring donation is processed because I know I am helping.

I have been a supporter of Tomten since before they had their official non-profit status - I remember contacting Jen to ask where I could send a check to support the great work that they do and have always done and being told that I would have to wait because the application was still pending. Since then, Tomten has grown and thrived and welcomed more and more lives that are enjoying "peace, protection and possibility". I am honored to be a small part of this and encourage anyone who is looking for a worthwhile cause to support to consider Tomten!!!! A huge thank you to Jen, Laima and the rest of the board and all of the volunteers for the fantastic job that they are all doing - both near and far!!!
A magnificent, transparent beacon of hope in a gray world. Tomtens relentless, passionate mission serves as a sanctuary for both humans and rescue animals brought together in heartwarming and teachable moments. You have my enduring respect and admiration. Five stars is not enough. I give them all the stars in the sky and from my heart:) April Clow Massachusetts
What a great organization helping rescue animals and providing them a safe haven. And definitely have to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to all the staff that help run the sanctuary and the many volunteers. THANK YOU. I hope to visit one day when I am in the area. Tami George
I first visited Tomten Farm and Sanctuary when they were still located in MA. I have been following them on their journey ever since. And I was lucky enough to make a trip up to their beautiful NH location as well. It is simply peaceful and serene.
This is truly an incredible organization with well thought out plans for each rescue as well as the growth of their sanctuary. They are fully transparent in everything that they do. Jen does an outstanding job of explaining each rescue story, medical needs, how they plan to care for them, showing great respect for each and every animal that they help. Not only do they rescue, but Jen is an educator. She shares so much of her knowledge and experiences of rescuing, auctions, reality of life for farmed animals, all without being critical or judgemental of those individuals or places that she has saved these animals from. This really is an incredible organization and I am grateful to be a supporter and following along on their journey.
Tomten is a very magical place - you can see it just by watching all the animals that get to call it their home.
Over the past year I have had the opportunity to learn more about this amazing organization and the wonderful animals that call Tomten home. I am truly inspired by all the do and how much the volunteers give of themselves. If you follow them on social media you will learn so much about more about the animals and the sanctuary. They make the world a better place.
Tomten is my happy place. I’ve been a supporter for several years and couldn’t think of a better place to give to. This is an organization I truly believe in. The Tomten team is committed to creating the best life possible for the animals that reside there. The compassion and pure joy that emanates from the sanctuary (humans and animals alike) is one of the main reasons I keep going back to visit!
I have always been a supporter of rescues and sanctuaries and I have tried to always donate to them when I could.
I came across Tomten Farm several years ago and was particularly struck by how they were set up and run. They are a non-profit and run strictly by volunteers. But I guess what I love most is how they relate to their animals. Their gentleness and love is evident in how they care for each animal. It was this that impressed me so much that I wanted to give a monthly donation and so I have.
I am disabled and have a hard time getting around but someday I hope to visit Tomten Farm and Sanctuary and meet all the animals I read about everyday and their wonderful volunteer caretakers that love them and take such wonderful care of them everyday, no matter the weather.
My husband and I are financial supporters of Tomten Farm and Sanctuary (TFS). We formerly fostered a now permanent resident horse, Fern. I am a former board member and current volunteer. TFS is very transparent with both where and how all donations are applied. TFS is an all-volunteer run organization that makes a difference in not only the animals in their care, they also freely offer advice and support for other in-need animals.
If you are interested in an animal sanctuary to support both financially and/or with your time and expertise, please contact Tomten Farm and Sanctuary!
I came upon Tomten Farm and Sanctuary about 2 years ago, and am so glad I did.
It is such an amazing and wonderful place, that is completely run by volunteers.
From all of their daily posts I feel like I really know the animals and am involved in each of their journeys.
I have learnt volumes and it makes me so happy to see how much the animals change and grow when provided with such love and care.
The results are amazing!
Thank you for everything that you do.
I came upon Tomten Farm and Sanctuary about 3 years ago. I am incredibly impressed with their hard work, ethics and love of animals. They are financially responsible. Only taking on animals if they can raise 1-2 years of money for their care. I've visited the farm a few times. These animals definitely know how lucky they are. To witness the change in these animals from their rescue to happy healthy creatures is truly amazing.
Tomten Farm and Sanctuary is a wonderful rescue organization! They provide love and care to animals of many species. Rescue can be heartbreaking, as seen by the auction posts; but it is also the most meaningful and rewarding thing to do. Through the wonderful words and photos on their posts, we can actually get to know each of the animals that live there. They also provide very educational information concerning not only the rescue animals, but even our own pets. Each person involved with the day to day activities, works hard to give individual attention to whatever an animal may need - physically, mentally or emotionally. Due to their transparency, I feel that I truly am a part of the family.Tomten literally changes the lives of these precious creatures by providing peace, protection and possibility to animals in need.
I have had the amazing opportunity to volunteer with the animals. Every time I volunteer I learn so much. The entire farm is donor funded which makes me feel like all my donations truly make a difference to the animals.
What wonderful , compassionate, work these women are doing.
Countless hours working understaffed during these "Covid times".
If you are reading this, please take 5 minutes and go to Tomten's Farm and Sanctuary's
website and visit the beautiful animals that they are saving and providing
a happy, peaceful, safe and warm life.
I recently learned about Totem Farm and Sanctuary of New Hampshire! This full expression of love totally warms my heart and reminds me of all the beautiful caring going on out there in this world!
To be honest, posting (and boasting!) about this beloved animal haven/heaven, is part of an opportunity I wanted to seize in support for the farm and also, one part of a chance to win a tour there with a bunch of friends. Wouldn’t THAT be a FUN day, x’s 100??!
Thank you, Totem Farm for giving your dedication, Heart and energy to provide rescue, sanctuary, adoption and education for like-minded animal lovers and for helping our, in need ‘brethren beasties’ peace, protection and possibilities!
What a gorgeous sanctuary full of beautiful souls, both 4 and 2 legged. My husband and I were able to visit Tomten October 2020 and it was truly a magical day. We got to meet the loving hardworking board that keep Tomten running day after day no matter what comes their way. The animals, what can I say. What an honor to be able to spend time with the rescyes and the people that love them so very much. I cannot wait to go back, like everyone who visits, I left a piece of my heart at Tomten, right where it belongs. Thank you Tomten! With love, Steffanie and Shaun
Peace, protection, possibility. What a wonderful world it would be, if we could each experience peace, possibility, and protection. Tomten does just that for the animals in their care. Tomten steps up for those who others have turned their back on. Tomten takes the lost, abused, neglected, forgotten and gives hope, peace, protection and possibility. Without judgement they take those who others have harmed and they heal. One animal at a time , Tomten makes the world a better place in which to live. Thank you, Tomten.
I have been a part of the Tomten Farm & Sanctuary journey for a few years now. I have been fortunate enough to have had the great opportunity to visit them and have never been the same since. The woman who spend countless hours, days, weeks of their time, money and emotion are some of the kindest and most compassionate people I’ve had the honor of meeting. It is beyond obvious that their entire heart and soul goes into every single rescue that they bring home to TFS. Each life has a story and each life just as valuable as the next. I am thrilled and honored to be a part of this journey and hold TFS in the highest regards.
I started volunteering for Tomten in 2013, back when it was located in Massachusetts, a few miles from my home. It would be an understatement to say that I was impressed with Jenifer Vickery all those years ago. I remember volunteering on bitter cold winter days, on rainy and muddy fall days, and on sweltering summer days. After each long experience, I went home feeling good, but physically exhausted. Jen does this every single day, all year long, with no days off.
Animals are her number one priority in life. Even still, Jen is as much a people person as she is an animal person. Jen is every bit as gracious in person as she is on social media. She enthusiastically welcomes all volunteers and visitors with appreciation, courtesy, and respect. She engages with each and every person who comes to the sanctuary, whether they are there to distribute hay, haul wheelbarrows full of manure, or simply to meet the animals. She is a firm believer in educating the public about the personal history of every resident animal, as well as animals in general. Her transparency regarding the process by which she rescues needy animals to the resources required to care for them on a daily basis is both astounding and admirable.
I have visited Tomten in its current home of Haverhill, New Hampshire several times. It is always a pleasure to meet all the of animals, as well as to see Jen in action. She and her friendly volunteers do an amazing job of greeting people and making them feel welcome, to informing people of the intricacies of running the farm, to introducing people to these beautiful animals. It is evident that every single animal is unique and dear to them.
Jenifer is attempting to take on the collective responsibility of all human beings. If humans had only 1/1000 of the passion and love for animals that Jen does, there would be no more animal suffering in the world.
Jen believes not only in protecting any and all animals that she possibly can, but also in educating people and giving back to the community. She is truly the epitome of an exemplary human being. If you love and respect animals, then you love and respect Jen, and therefore, Tomten.
I give five stars, but honestly, Jenifer deserves all the stars in the galaxy for her selfless work.
I have always hoped my childhood horse found his way to a rescue like this one . I was young and unaware of horses slaughter and how our beloved horses fall through the many cracks of society . I thought my horse was “ going to live on pasture “during his golden years only to find out they sold him off to a known dealer . I will never forgive myself about how I failed him . So much so when I re-married 40+ years later I still thought of him with the hopes he made it through and lived on with the assistance of a rescue just like this one . I wish you continued success & prosperity through this very complicated year & beyond
You were born to do this #savinglives4morelife

The highest idea of what an animal sanctuary should be. Not just the abundant food and warm shelter, but the love.
The vision, compassion and determination of the founder Jenifer, is a rare find.
At Tomten the animals are always put above all else. Volunteers are educated on how to work on the farm and also how to interact with the rescues, making it an especially rewarding experience for both animal and human.
When tours start up again I highly recommend participating. The walk around the pastures and hearing the rescue stories of each animal first hand from Jenifer will have you hooked!
