The price for adopting a pet here is VERY high. I would think they should be more interested in getting animals homes than making money.
Review from Guidestar
This is my favorite place ever. The animals are extremely well cared, the staff is professional as well as compassionate, and many animals find homes. Not only do they have on-site vet staff, but they also have great support from volunteers. Their enthusiasm is contagious and I'm very glad that I caught it. The support from the community and from volunteers really proves that there is something wonderful going on at this non-profit.
I enjoy volunteering at the Toledo Humane Society. The staff really cares about the animals and provides them with the best care possible. The other volunteers are friendly and take great pride in caring for the animals.
My teenage daughter and I have been volunteering at the Maumee Humane Society location (TAHS) for some time now. We do everything from foster animals that need a temporary, loving home to walking dogs and to just giving some good lovin' where needed. Not only is it time for my daughter and I to bond but we get a lot of satisfaction knowing we are helping. The love we get back from the animals is reward enough. I feel with all the improvements that have been happening recently, the facility is looking better then ever. If you love animals and are not already a volunteer, you should really look into becoming one. To the staff of the Toledo Area Humane Society and all the volunteers, know you are appreciated and keep up the good work.
THS should be a template for animal shelters around the globe. We are fortunate to have the third oldest Humane Society in NW Ohio. I am a volunteer at the Toledo Humane Society and get so much pleasure out of Monday mornings I wish everyone would try volunteering...if not here...someplace where they can see positive results for their efforts. The THS staff is kind, caring, and always trying to build a brighter future for animals. With all the negative news in our 24/7 media coverage... working at the Humane Society is like a beam of sunshine on Monday morning. The community outreach programs are very meaningful. THS volunteers at other charities...and always with a genuine smile! This is a group that leads by example. Lora at the front desk has the right words for every phone call, Jodie is an angel! Everyone should have a supervisor with her capabilities. NR....I wish he could be bottled and sold as an "Attitude Elixer"! Mary engages volunteers in a friendly including manner (because everyone has something to give). Most important is Jim - the maintenance man. Jim works above and beyond the call of duty..adopting kittens, redirecting pipes, grading the lawn...Jim is amazing! The front office staff is always out there pitching for pets! Don't get me started on the cruelty division officers! They are the most heroic people I know. What I am trying to tell you is that the Toledo Humane Society is a small facility with the biggest heart you can imagine! THS is more than the sum of its building and bricks...it is a group of dedicated, good human beings who get up every day, walk dogs, rescue cats, do the right thing...and then do it again, and again, and again. Thank youfor a chance to BRAG about the very best Toledo has to offer...I wish every community had a Humane Society like ours, and so do the animals.
Wonderful organization!!! They are very caring and compassionate and provide top quality/care for their animals. Not only do they go above and beyond their duties to help the animals, they reach out to rescues in the Tri State area placing animals in rescues who are considered not adoptable through the shelter rather than the horrible other option of euthenizing.. So many precious lives are saved every year due to their dedication to the animals. Their cruelty department is top notch and MANY MANY dogs/cats are saved from the horrible hands of man every year and they are rehabilitated and either put up for adoption through the shelter or will go onto find their forever homes through another rescue organization. God Bless them!!
I have been a volunteer at the Humane Society for many years. I am so happy about the changes in how they take care of the animals. The open cat rooms are wonderful!! The cats and run around and play and are not treated like prisoners locked in those little cages. Cats need lots of exercise to keep happy and healthy. The dogs get to run together now to have play time and group socialization. Dogs are pack animals so it's important to them to have play time with other dogs. I think the Humane Society shows that they really understand the needs of animals while they're at the Shelter. They understand that pets need more than just food and water, that they need love, exercise, training and to be kept in as open and homelike settings as possible. I wish they had more room and exercise space for the animals.
My teenage daughter and I volunteer almost every weekend, we wish it could be more! These people are wonderful! The staff is caring and always available if you have a question. We enjoy walking the dogs, and social visits with the cats & kittens. It has helped us both to learn more about animal care and the process of adopting animals. I always suggest to family and friends to check out the Humane Society before getting a new family pet. We adopted a Beagle after we were volunteering there only about a month. She had been through alot by the time we got her. She is now a loving, loyal addition to our family! So you never know! In addition to volunteering at a great organization, you could also be adotped by your own new best friend!
I've been a volunteer with TAHS for several years now, working with dogs, and I'd recommend it to anyone. This is a great bunch of people, staff and volunteers alike, who are carrying on a 120 year tradition of service to the community. I'm proud to be even a small part of that tradition and I wish I could give them more time. If you're looking to find a pet, TAHS is an excellent source. If you're looking to volunteer or make a charitable contribution, your time and money are well spent here.
My daughter talked me into volunteering 2 years ago when she turned 10. That was one of the best things we have ever done together! TAHS is the most amazing place to volunteer. The animal care staff works so hard and the volunteers are needed to help with many of the daily needs of the animals. It is heart breaking to see the "little" sad faces behing the bars, but when they get adopted and you have been involved, it is the most amazing feeling. You tend to get attached to many of the animals that have been there for awhile and when they go home- everybody is talking about it! I wish I could come everyday! My love for animals and taking care of them here is great therapy. My co-workers probably think I am obsessed because I am always asking for supplies or collecting newpapers (for the puppies). TAHS needs everyones support. Even if it is only a few hours, every little bit helps- those "little" sad faces behind the bars. Please Volunteer!
This is such a wonderful organization that has helped so many animals in need throughout the area. From Dogs, cats, horses and many other neglected cases, the Humane society speaks out for those who cannot. I started volunteering last summer feeding, walking and transporting just to name a few. I wish that I could do more and my heart goes out to all of those who do not have a home during these tough times.
I believe that the TAHS is a great organization. My first experience with the TAHS was their walk for the animals and then I joined their volunteer's group. I mostly help with the cats and have even fostered for the TAHS. It is wonderful what the workers and volunteers do for the animals and it is great that so many people share the same ethos when it comes to animals in need!
i love working at the toledo humaine society. i am a volunteer i like working with cats they are very friendly.
Hi, I am a volunter at the Toledo Area Humane Society, and while I can't always devote as much time as I'd like with a full time job, I do my best. I've participated in holiday bell ringers, car washes, and other local events whenever possible. Many people think they are too busy, but every little bit helps the animals. This weekend I plan on asking my neighbors if they have anything to donate such as blankets, cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc. They can drop off the items at my house and I'll delivery them to TAHS. We are very fortunate to have such a great organization in Toledo! Let' do all we can to support them-whether it be an hour here or there, or a monetary donation.
I am a volunteer for the Toledo Area Humane Society and have done so for almost four years.I have participated in different funtions with them working as a volunteer. I have nothing but the utmost praise for this organizations as I have witnessed many things all for the benefit of the animals. The people who work there are people who are there for the sole care and love of the animals and it seems like a paycheck for them is a bonus. The real payoff is the love for the animals that pass thru there and the ultimate high is when an animal is adopted out to a good home. I myself have adopted a dog from there and he has been a great joy in my life. The animal I adopted was there for five months and was a cruelty siezure. This dog could have been a real problem after the previous owners mistreatment. The time at the Humane Society was a prep for a new home. He was treated with love and care and the animal came to realize that not all humans were as cruel as its previous owner. The employees and volunteers coddled and loved the animal even though it was there temporarily until a new home was found.I give all the credit to the people there and the treatment the dog received so that I have a great and loving dog rather then a resentful animal scared to a point of being vicious. This particular branch of the Humane Society deserves the highest praise and should get the recognition as an organization that is responsible for the care and well being of our fur covered friends. After all, the dogs and cats of this world are here for us as much as we are for them. Because of this Humane society there are a great deal of happy dogs and cats and pet owners who would otherwise not have this joy in their life if it weren't for this organization.
