I had volunteered for a year as of today. I started there as just doing the once a month donkey walk. I actually just should have kept doing that. I was doing it for my anxiety and depression. I met a donkey named Benny. he is a therapy donkey. He helped me a lot when I would come and walk him..Then on a walk a nice volunteer who was working that day told me she wanted me to tell walk a big donkey. That is when I met Big Marge . She is a lovable and caring blind donkey. I had become very attached her. She has a calming sense to her that my day was better and my anxiety was at a good stage. It was getting better each time that I ended up sponsoring her for 25.00 a month. The time and experience started getting even better once I had a mentor that took time out and take me around the ranch so I could see the other animals and teach me some techniques of training . When my mentor was let go things started to change. I noticed more. I noticed there are things that could be a lot better when it comes to the animals and staffing . But as I said I was mostly there for the love of the animals and I received that from a few that I will worry about and always love.

Once you visit TMR, you realize it is a very special place. I am fortunate enough to not only have visited TMR multiple times and tour the amazing facility but we also made the decision to adopt two donkeys from TMR. The people who lead TMR, work at TMR, and volunteer at TMR are selfless and caring people who give their heart and soul for the good of the animals. I could not be more impressed. It is a well run organization from the top down. This sprawling ranch needs a lot to keep it going and they always step up no matter what the situation. Animals are sent to TMR from all over because people know the animals will be well taken care of. They will be given love, compassion, food, water, training, medical attention, and the beautiful countryside to enjoy. I think the animals give as much back to the people at TMR as the people give to the animals. The vibe at TMR as you tour the facility is tranquility, peace, and hope. I truly have not experienced many things like it. The two donkeys we adopted at TMR are thriving members of our family. The staff at TMR made certain that we were selecting the best two donkeys that suited our situation. Our donkeys have been amazing! TMR will not let anyone rush into an adoption. You must get to know your animals, spend time at the ranch with them, get your home set up properly, make the appropriate donation, and only then will you be able to adopt. It is a commitment that is in the best interest of the animals. I would do this TMR experience 1000 times over again. I could not
recommend TMR any more highly to anyone thinking of investing their time, money, and love to the animals of TMR. Life is too short.....go for it!!

I started volunteering several months ago after I retired. I was familiar with TMR from an experience with my older daughter, but had not spent much time there. It has been great. The people are kind and caring, and like most animal rescues they are a bit overwhelmed at times. As much care and attention as possible is given to each animal to try to give it the best possible life. Many have come from sad backgrounds and are medically in need, and TMR tries hard to meet that need. As soon as animals are healthy and trained, they are available to find forever homes.

I started out as someone interested in the once a month Donkey walk. I've always loved donkeys and horses but where I live won't be able to have one since water has been in my house I don't want to chance it. I went to an orientation and learned more about how I can volunteer and I even got my older daughter who was 12 at the time involved. We have the best time loving on these animals. I take a ton of photos, and it's a time my daughter looks forward to all the time. She evens sponsors one of the horses with a job she has. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be involved.

I have been volunteering at TMR Rescue for over a year. I find peace when I am there spending time with the donkeys, mules and horses. I originally volunteered at TMR to learn about donkeys and caring for them to decide if donkeys would be a good addition to our family. After several months, we adopted two bonded male donkeys. The staff at TMR was crucial in helping make this decision. Knowing our level of experience helped tremendously and we couldn't have asked for a better pair. They bring joy to our lives daily. I continue to volunteer at TMR weekly and learn so much still. It makes me happy to spend time with the animals and I know that I am doing my part to help them enjoy the rest of their lives in a safe place being well cared for, which is so different from where many have spent their earlier years. Also knowing that many are able to be adopted out to safe, happy homes is a wonderful feeling. I am so glad I was introduced to TMR Rescue and I encourage people to take a scheduled tour or go on a donkey walk which is usually every month. Getting introduced to even just one donkey is an amazing feeling.

This is an amazing place. Period. At TMR rescue I find my peace and I love helping the equine and doing many activities with my kind peers. TMR rescue has all sorts of equine that you will definitely get attached to, no doubt, I have for sure found my one and only beautiful baby, Hattie that I choose to sponsor for twenty dollars a month with no additional fees for nothing. 10 out of 10 I love this place sooooo much, recommend going to have the best and relaxing time of your life!!!!

I just had a very bad experience in this rescue. At the beginning they are very nice, and lure you into coming in and seeing the donkeys, but you have to pay them, or what they call "donate" $100 before doing this. I didn't mind because I thought this was a serious place. I had several conversations with the owner after I went. I had already been approved to adopt a full size donkey. I decided on a mini donkey, but the girl I chose came in a set of three. the maximum I wanted was two, but they said they couldn't separate them. they continued working with me, but during that time the person who had been taking care of me was fired, and it was hard for them to return your call. they continued to give me excuses on change of personnel, and always blaming everything on the fired employee. during that period of time I caught the manager telling me a few lies, and I did not not appreciate that. He referred me to the new person who was replacing the other lady, and said marvelous things about her. He explained how knowledgeable she was on equine, the years of experience handling equine, etc.... When I finally came in last week, this girl met me at the front. we went to the office, and this is how disorganized they are, had me fill out another release and wanted me to fill out the adoption application. there was another girl there too, who was in charge of fundraising. I had to show them proof that I had already been approved for the donkeys. Before the first one got let go, she had spoken to the woman in charge of the adoptions, and explained that I wanted a mini, and she had agreed to it. We went around, so I could choose again, and I took them to the front pasture and showed them the 3 mini donkeys that I was interested on. The new girl wouldn't say a word, and that's when I noticed that she didn't know much about equine. I was asking questions, and the other one was responding, most of the time with things that didn't even make sense. but I would just follow along. i left and told them I would call them back after I asked my husband about getting the three girls, since we did not want so many. He said yes, and when I told them they started giving me excuses not to let me adopt them. First they said that I was only approved for one full size donkey. These three girls made one full size donkey if you put them on top of each other. Then they said I had to provide one acre for each donkey. This is not true, because for starters they don't provide one acre per donkey. So they have a rule that they don't follow themselves? They warn you about donkeys loving to eat trees. I asked why was that, and they said that the bark is sweet to them. Well, wrong. Donkeys eat tree out of malnutrition, and lack of vitamins and minerals, or out of boredom. I asked about their eating habits. They said they fed them just hay, and once a month they prepared a mash of oatmeal and she was very excited to mention they included Sand Clear, to prevent sand colic. I made sure to ask again, and she confirmed it's done 1 day out of the month. Well, they are wasting the sand clear product miserably. I give that to my horses too, but it needs to be given every month for seven consecutive days. And just like that, they pretend to know what they are doing and saying, but they really don't. They charge $750 for each mini donkey, and I was willing to pay for the three, even though I only wanted one, or two. The new girl came back to me and told me "the bosses said that the minis are a no go.". Now, how unprofessional is that? And then they offer me two of the bigger minis, but they were males. Basically they lure you in, let you bond with they donkeys you want, and then try to make you adopt the ones they want. They had mentioned that most of the donkeys there are males, and I guess that's why they rather have people adopt males. I wouldn't have minded, except for the fact that I have two mares and a gelding, and I don't think bringing other males would've been a good idea. I made it very clear to them. Just be careful adopting from this place. They are not as poor as you think they are. They made me bring a 20LB bag of snacks or carrots the first two times I came. I've read other reviews where people were given a bucket of carrots to pass around the donkeys. How does that make sense? They are very inconsistent, unprofessional, not as knowledgeable as they say they are, and are just get you excited to then drop you. I had already heard stories about them at the little convenience store here in Waller, but I usually judge for myself. I am completely disappointed on this place, and I wish I would've listen to others. I finally turned them down and told them I would not be adopting from them.

I started volunteering at TMR several months ago. I’m absolutely amazed at how tirelessly this group works to save, rehabilitate and re-home these amazing animals. Day after day, they are contacted about donkeys, mules (and horses too) that need help. Some are owner surrenders who can no longer be cared for. Some are seized by law enforcement because they’ve been abused. Some are found as strays (e.g. running down the highway) and never claimed. You name it, it runs the gamut as far as how these precious animals come to TMR. Once they are at TMR, director Marjorie makes sure they are fully vetted, rehabilitated and when they’re well enough, placed in new homes.I have gained such an appreciation for these animals since I began volunteering here. These animals are so smart, loyal, affectionate and form deep, emotional bonds. The staff at this rescue truly loves these animals and it shows. Great group! Now I’ve decided to adopt some donkeys of my own! The hard part? Deciding which ones! I love them all!!!!

I have been volunteering with TMR Rescue now for over a year. I stumbled on their website while looking for a place to go horseback riding. I love donkeys (pretty much all animals), so my husband and I took a tour. I fell in love immediately, and when I found out they needed volunteers to help with different things out at the ranch-I signed up!! TMR saves various equine from different situations, and I probably don't have enough space to list everything that they do. There is so much hard work that goes into each day, and -the employees and volunteers alike -are amazing! I would encourage a tour, I would encourage volunteering and I would encourage donating to TMR. I personally work with a donkey who was afraid of people, and now he takes treats (ever so gently) from my hand, lets me pet him, and I have recently been able to wrap both of my arms around him and hug him. I'm hoping that this will help him get adopted one day, because he is a sweet and special guy!! I never did end up going horseback riding -LOL.

I visited TMR through a service event opportunity by a women’s organization that I am in at Texas A&M University called PAWS. After this event, I later received an email from Mrs. Tracy Stubblefield, a volunteer, asking for help with the watering route. I knew this was a great opportunity that I did not want to miss.

Ever since that email, I have been coming to TMR every week. I spent my entire summer there, and it was through my exposure to this place that I have decided to pursue a career as a large animal veterinarian.

Each and every single person at TMR cares deeply about the well being of all of the animals there. It is through this care that you can see the transformation of some animals that come to TMR afraid, abused, and sickly, only to become happy, healthy, and full of life shortly after.

TMR has been a life changing place for me, and I cannot recommend this place enough to any animal lover that I cross paths with. Here’s a picture of Emory, the donkey that I spend most of my time with.

As an early birthday surprise, my parents took me to Texas Miracle Ranch, where I got to spend the day with and feed dozens of adorable, SMART donkeys! The owner of this ranch, Johnny, gave us a personal tour and introduced us to all the animals. He’s doing amazing, tireless work with this ranch, and he truly cares about these precious animals. He recently rescued 11 miniature ponies from Louisiana after the hurricanes—That’s the kind of miracle work happening on this ranch. He was also kind enough to drive us to different parts of the ranch, making it easily accessible for myself (I have difficulty walking). Every employee we encountered was friendly and kind.

We passed out nearly 100 lbs of carrots and lots of ear scratches. I had a few favorites— Rango and Charming Chucky won me over with their sweet personalities! I can’t wait to go back to visit. If you have a heart for animals and want to help these sweet donkeys, I know they would greatly appreciate any donations!

TMR not only rescues Horses, Donkeys, Mules & Hinnies, it rescues people too! Volunteering at TMR Rescue is therapeutic for my entire family. Spending time with the animals is something to look forward to after a rough week. To see the appreciation on their faces makes the hour & a half drive each way worth it. The flexibility of duties allows you to find a way to help for whatever amount of time you have available. I spent 3 days during Labor Day weekend at TMR. Friday, my daughter & I scrubbed & filled water troughs & cleaned the volunteers restroom. Saturday, my teenage son & I socialized & pampered the animals with carrots. Then on Sunday,my 5 yr old nephew & I went to socialize & pass out treats. Donkeys that were slightly distant from my teen & myself came straight up to the fence to meet the 5 yr old. They even followed along the fencing as we walked to the next paddock. He hasn't stopped asking to go back! Not only does TMR teach animals that they deserve love & compassion, they teach families to remember to love each other & to find that compassion towards others even when your day was difficult. My stress melts away when I look into the eyes of one of the rescues. I look forward to going each week to give my time & offer whatever financial donation I have to this foundation. God bless Johnny & Marjorie for their hard work & dedication. Thank you for everything you do! The volunteers appreciate you as much as the animals do!

I found TMR rescue a few months ago. I didn't know anything about donkeys at all except that are cute and make funny noises. I visited with my toddler and husband for a tour. Little did I know there was so much to explore and my daughter got grumpy before we could finish. I was told that I could become a volunteer even though I didn't know much at all!

I have gone back to visit several times. I was taught how to help with their watering and I have been able to participate in that way.

I am always amazed at how knowledgeable Marjorie is. There are literally hundreds of donkeys at the rescue and she knows them each by name and their personal stories. Tracy is the volunteer coordinator and she cares for and loves these animals so much.

Donkeys are the sweetest animals you will ever come across. Their big ears and soft noses just make you fall in love. They are smart and playful too and surprisingly soft!

I love this rescue because they are doing God's work to take care of those that he put on Earth and need our help. I am thankful to be a small part of such an important mission.

I arrived unannounced, but was warmly welcomed. I got a ride all around the facilities to see the wonderful burros, donkeys, and horses. The volunteers were hard at work. If you would like to get your children's nose out of the computer, phone, tablet and show them some REAL world this would be a great opportunity. They can always use a little help even if it is just petting or brushing the donkeys. The kids would have a ball. Very few of us are in a position to help save and rescue animals that need help. But we can help those who are trying to help save those that need help. This is one of those places. Contact Marjory, plan a visit, ask what you can to to help. You will leave with a warm fuzzy feeling you can't get any other way, and a smile on your face.

I met Marjorie Farabee at TMR Rescue. She is an amazing person. When I drove through the gates, I was greeted by her warm smile. I wasn't sure if I wanted to adopt or not. I just wanted to see. Marjorie immediately offered to put me in the golf cart to take a tour of the property. Boy was I n for a treat! Not only is the property beautiful, but there are approximately 400 animals -- donkeys, mules, horses, mini horse and mini donkeys. As we stopped at each pasture, the animals would come to greet us. Marjorie knew them all by name, and knew each of their personalities and back stories. I was amazed. Her love for ALL of the animals at TMR is fierce -- but especially for the long ears. She has devoted her life to these animals.

I was immediately drawn to the mini donkeys. Marjorie proceed to educate me about these beautiful souls. Her knowledge blew me away. I learned so much that day. It didn't take me long to decide that I wanted to adopt a couple of minis. I went back several times before I could choose. Marjorie patiently took me into the pastures -several times -- and as we visited about each one, I was chosen by one very special mini, Omar. There was also a very special tiny boy who had just come into the rescue and was not yet in the general population. I went to meet him and he was so funny and quirky that, yes, he now has a forever home too.

Unfortunately, I was always under the misconception that donkeys were hard headed and stubborn. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have learned how intuitive, kind and funny donkeys are. They are a pleasure to live with, and pretty easy keepers.

So if you are ever curious, in need of a little country loving, or therapy from some of the sweetest creatures, please go visit or volunteer at TMR. They could always use a helping hand. You will have a lot of fun and it will be so rewarding. Even if you just want to see and learn about these animals, make an appointment with Marjorie and she will take you around the grounds in her golf cart and you can meet and pet as many as you want. All the while Marjorie will tell their stories and share her knowledge. But be careful, you just might end up with one or two of these guys! Adopting two minis has been one of the best decisions I've made.

It is clear that TMR truly cares about their donkeys! Their passion is evident and made volunteering with them a rewarding experience. They love each of their animals and do a great job at giving them a second chance. Such a great rescue!

I had only had the privilege of visiting the TMR Rescue ranch one time before moving away from the Houston area, but I had been following them regularly on Facebook for years and still do. Uncle Johnny opened his heart, life and property to these beautiful creatures, and found the perfect and most compassionate person in Marjorie Farabee to manage the rescue. Marjorie and the TMR team of workers and volunteers have traveled thousands of miles over the last many years rescuing primarily donkeys, but other equines also... those who's owners have passed on and left them; those who are being threatened with being shot if someone doesn't arrive to pick them up; those who's owners are alive but do not care if these animals have enough food, water or medical care; those who have been severely injured and left to die on the side of the road (God bless Blue Boy); those who are new in the world and their momma has left them for whatever reason... there are innumerous stories of rescues by the Angels of TMR. And on their side is the Brazos Valley Equine Hospital which is one of the very best animal hospitals that the state of Texas has to offer. BVEH is the first place these donkeys (and others) see when they are rescued. They are thoroughly checked out and, when needed, given all the medical care necessary to get them ready to go to the ranch. Back at the ranch every one of them will still receive regular medical check-ups... shots, teeth floating, hoof cleaning... to name a few of the costly requirements of maintaining a healthy herd. Marjorie and her crew are extremely knowledgeable about placing the newcomers in with the residing ranch residents. She has a gift of being able to read these sad and scared creatures, and making sure they feel safe, secure and loved. And HOW they are LOVED! They have beautiful fields to run around, they have carrots and treats galore (but not too much!), they have the attention and care they so very much deserve, and they are safe once again. I hope you will visit the TMR Rescue if you're ever in the Plantersville area, and see what a marvelous job Uncle Johnny, Marjorie and all of the Angels of the Texas Miracle Ranch are doing to save these loving, kind and peaceful creatures. And don't forget, many of these animals may be adopted. Please go online and make a donation at www.tmrrescue.com or find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TmrRescueInc/.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time at TMR and learn more about donkeys. I never realized there was a such a need for this wonderful rescue facility. Donkeys can be every bit as sweet and loving as any other family pet! My daughter and I enjoyed our visit and will be back.

TMR Rescue is a fabulous organization providing much needed assistance to equine! I love seeing their success stories, their community involvement, and their educating public awareness regarding donkeys, mule, and horses.

This rescue steps up in so many dire situations to save equine lives.... From rescuing burros that were going to be sent to Guatemala, to pulling them off the ground and saving their lives, or taking them in when rescued from kill pens, TMR steps up and does it. There are close to 400 being cared for, given affection, and medical care. Some groundbreaking medical procedures have saved lives here. I can't think of a better place for a donkey or horse, or even a stray dog to be. Marjorie Farabee knows the name of each and every one.....What a wonderful place. I have attached some pictures of sweet little Holly, she is safe, warm, well fed and happy now at TMR Rescue.

I have followed TMR Rescue since 2012 and made a trip to TMR in 2016. TMR devotes everything to their almost 400 donkeys, mules and horses and have only the animals best welfare at heart. Their dedication and commitment to each animals well being is phenomenal. Marjorie Farabee's (equine manager) hard work, determination and perseverance never lets up in continuing her mission in rescuing, treating and providing a safe environment for these animals to live out the rest of their lives with love and care. And a big Thank You to Johnny Straitz, owner and founder of TMR, who makes it all possible!
