I volunteer at the shelter as a Masters in Social Work Intern. One thing I've observed is the shelter goes above and beyond to improve access to programs and resources that can assist individuals who are homeless with breaking the cycle of poverty. Brisben offers onsite housing Case Management, computer lab to search for housing and jobs, a meditation room, library, playground, washer/dryers, industrial kitchen to serve meals to residents and community members, and so much more. They've also partnered with Social Services, the free clinic, and the local community services board (a mental health provider) to help link residents with benefits, insurance, and improve overall health. Job coaches come in at least once a week to help residents build a resume and search for jobs. Yoga instructors teach residents yoga at least once a month. Local churches and other organizations ban together to help feed the 60 residents, and homeless individuals within the community 3 meals a day, 365 days a year. They also offer mentoring via a new program called Mobility Mentoring. It's modeled after EMPath's program in Boston, which uses brain science to help participating shelter residents break the cycle of poverty. Brisben offers so many programs, and has so many connections in the community, that it's hard to include them all in one review. Instead of functioning solely as a shelter, Brisben has proven with its partnerships, programming, and staff interactions that they are interested in assisting residents as a whole. They've also proven they are interested in helping residents resolve the factors that led to their situation, so that they can become more stable in the future. It's a wonderful nonprofit. I'm very happy to work with them in supporting their mission.

Brisben is the most corrupt and dangerous shelter. The staff of Brisben are running a kingdom. They are liars and abusive. Specially three of them. Their case manager Amy. Their so called nurse lady and her supervisor. They are very dangerous, dishonest, heartless and abusive people. They lie all the time. They are not human being. They are prejudiced. The don't care if you die. They hold your medications. They don't allow water. I had there notes from different doctors asking them to give my medicines and water. They refused and Amy every day asked me to leave if I ever ask for my medicines, water or anything. She was blackmailing me. She threatened me several times. I lost a job because of her blackmail, abusive behavior and threats. She was constantly every day asking me to leave because I needed my medications and needed water. She is a blackmailer and a dictator whom abuses her power. She is extremely dangerous.

They are there just to run a dictatorship Kingdom by getting all the money from all over. Those three should not be allowed around people. They are abusive. Whoever owns this place is corrupt to allow corruption, lies, crimes against humanity. They don't deserve to stay open. Brisbane should be shut down permanently. They are thieves. Thank God, I have family to help me. I had to run away and safe my life.
I have met many people that have experienced the same horror in Brisbane. If you talk to them, they will tell you their bad experience in Brisbane.

I am safe. I have many resources and good family that are helping me but she is only there for Ms. Amy. I was attacked physically and verbally bullied daily and I reported daily but she ignored them all. I told them to watch your cameras, she denied it all. She instead attacked me. Those bullies are in full power because they have the corrupt nurse lady and her manager behind them. Of course they will support one of their own against a foreigner with an accent with higher education. They are hateful and liars. They are very bad , dishonest and abusive people.
Brisbane also forces their clients to clean up three times a day or they will be kicked out.

Brisbane is a very dangerous place. People get sick in Brisbane. They are the most abusive people.

And Brisbane is a very unsafe and dirty place.

this organization is extremely controlling and narcissistic. everything is their way or the highway. i stayed here 12 years ago and was told to beg via written letter for a second and third 30 day term to continue receiving their assistance. unfortunately i was evicted after only 35 days after being assaulted in this facility. the perpetrator was also evicted which is why the staff decided to evict me as he was friends with the staff. the perpetrator was convicted of a criminal misdemeanor for this assault at trial which took place 3 months later. i ended up back homeless for 18 months longer until i could secure housing.
then during covid 19 i ended up losing my housing and was admitted here again but had to leave after only 2 hours on premises due to health concerns over the amount of chemical cleaners used at the facilities exasperating my chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd). at this time i only remained homeless for 4 moths before securing new housing and during that time i had a vehicle to sleep in.
