Mission: To create, demonstrate and encourage non-pathological and empowering resources and model early intervention services for families with disability issues in parent or child which integrate expertise derived from personal disability exprience and disability culture.
Programs: Intervention & consultation serviceswe provided services to 956 clients in 232 families and 590 children in 11 child care centers, including mental health services and family therapy, intervention, family support, and parenting education, infant/toddler developmental evaluation and early intervention, adaptive baby care equipment evaluation and provision for parents, expectant parents or parenting grandparents with physical disabilities, childbirth and parenting education for expectant parents with disabilities, play therapy for children with disabilities, and parenting evaluations for child protective services in 2016.
eary head start program-home & center basedthe child development center is a model program for serving parents, children, and families with disabilities in early head start. The center offers comprehensive service, including education and socialization, mental health services, family resources and clinical support in center based, home visiting and pregnant parent services in an inclusive early head start environment. 133 children and pregnant women were served during the 2016-2017 enrollment year.
research, training and disseminationwe conducted several national research studies concerning families with disabilities including infants, children, parents and grandparents with disabilities, notably: custody, baby care adaptations, family roles, demographics, and intervention services to parents with intellectual disabilities and their children. Our national center also provided technical assistance, consultations and trainings regarding parenting with a disability to parents, family members and professionals throughout the u. S. Research results and other materials concerning parents with disabilities were disseminated electronically via hard-copy mailings as well as during presentations and trainings. Through the looking glass conducted 29 trainings to 945 people during the period 2014-2015.
