Causes: Homeless & Housing, Low-Income & Subsidized Rental Housing
Mission: The organization's mission is to provide communication-accessible housing, health care, social support, and recreational activities for deaf and deaf/blind people. Priority is given to those who were either born deaf or became deaf prior to the acquisition of language and who, because of advanced age, economic, social, and/or physical constraints, most benefit from the unique linguistic and cultural support offered through the corporation's residential and community-based programs.
Programs: Hud-subsidized housing - the thompson house, a hud subsidized independent living facility on the campus of new england homes for the deaf, is the first residential complex in the northeast designed especially for deaf and deaf-blind seniors. Under the leadership of the new england homes for the deaf, the thompson house was conceived to promote independence and accessibility for the hearing impaired. The 21,000 square foot structure accommodates 24 one-bedroom units, including three handicap-accessible apartments. An american sign language fluent property manager is onsite several days each week.
