I first learned about Thistle Farms through my Aunt, Brenda Wilson who graduated from the program. I witnessed how this wonderful organization not only changed her life but lit a pathway so she could to find her way home; back to herself. My heart led me to want to give back somehow, so I began volunteering in the Thistle Farms Shop in July, 2023. Because of the LOVE this organization provides, these ladies are able to shine! Becca Steven’s incredible vision and God’s grace over this program is priceless. When I began volunteering at Thistle Farms, I walked in thinking I would lend a helping hand, but to my surprise these beautiful strong women help me each time I am graced with their presence. Their conversations, joy, and remarkable strength motivates me, and I am so grateful to be a part of the Thistle Farms family!
Thistle Farms is a place where I feel loved and appreciated. I am always greeted with a "welcome" and am often times thanked for helping. Instead, I feel that I should be the one thanking them. I am inspired each time I am there from the residents and staff whose stories of hope and gratitude is expressed many times daily.
I love everything about Thistle Farms. The mission is incredible. The management and staff are a remarkable combination of professional and compassionate. The products made by the manufacturing facility (which employs graduates of the program) are outstanding. The restaurant - The Cafe at Thistle Farms (which also employs graduates of the program) - is first rate. The Board is engaged, enthusiastic and full of love. There is simply no aspect of Thistle Farms that is not amazing. I am beyond privileged to serve on the Board and to be a part of it.
Love Heals! is not only the motto of Thistle Farms but it defines the way in which this organization and everyone associated with it (employees, Board members and donors) fulfills its mission of rescuing women from sex trafficking and rehabilitating them. In doing so, the women are provided with a nurturing and loving residential environment and learn valuable interpersonal and business skills while working in one of Thistle Farm's operations (i.e. distribution plant, cafe, catering, etc.) After completing the 2 year program, the women then successfully re-enter the business world and external living environment. Each year, a very large percentage of the Thistle Farms graduates return to assist their sisters and volunteer to serve as resource to guide them through the program. Of all the non-profits I am associated with, I find Thistle Farms and its mission to be the most personally rewarding!
I first heard of Magdalene, Inc. in October of 2015 through a web show called "Waking Up In America." Becca Stevens the founder of Magdalene, Inc. was interviewed by Tajci Cameron. I was so impressed I wanted to give to this organization. Magdalene, Inc. has since started going by the name Thistle Farms. I checked them out on GuideStar and was impressed seeing no salary was being taken by the founder Becca Stevens. Also very little salary is being taken by the officers and board. I have since spoken with one of the women that has been helped through Thistle Farms and again was so very impressed. I will continue to give to this awesome organization!
