Programs: Thetford academy was chartered by the state of vermont in 1819. The academy continues to strive to provide every student with an individualized high quality education that is active and engaging; reflective and thoughtful; varied and adaptive/ safe and supportive; structured and coherent; motivating and inspiring. Thetford academy maintains an open admission policy for area residents and seeks to admit a wide range of students from local communities and abroad. 63 students graduated from thetford academy in june of 2017. The 2016/2017 school year was the second year of operation of the grant funded thetford outdoor program. During the school year, 2016-2017 students participated in five classes in this subject area. This was also the second year of the cross country ski program, attracting six students to learn the sport of cross country skiing. Building on the success of these programs, a group of thetford academy faculty spent the year designing a half-day academic program that met the academic standards in science and english, while engaging students in the natural environment surrounding thetford academy. A director for the program was hired in the spring of 2017 and the academic program will launch during the 2017/2018 school year with eleven students enrolled. During the 2016/2017 school year, thetford academy introduced five new courses, giving students the opportunities to study outdoor leadership, creative writing, pre algebra, digital literacy, and anatomy and physiology.
