Our daughter attended Windward from 1st through 4th grade. She entered as a diffident, academically traumatized child. Today, she stands as a recent graduate of a leading liberal arts college with a record of outstanding academic, social, extra-curricular and now early professional success. Windward not only provided the nurturing instructional environment for her to overcome her learning disabilities but also helped instill a work ethic and confidence that continues unabated. Although our daughter left Windward 15 years ago, we remain committed to the school because of the importance of its mission to enable learning disabled children and their teachers to flourish.

Our son attended The Windward School from grades 3 thru 8. When he started at The Windward School he could not read or retain what he had read. The years spent at Windward changed his life. He is now in high school at a main stream school. He has learned to advocate for himself and use the skills he learned at Windward to decipher and accomplish the heavy work load of honors and AP classes. He knows that he will always be dyslexic and that it will not hold him back in life. The teachers at Windward are amazing. They work with your student in small, homogenous skilled groups. Windward not only teaches the students to read but how to learn and how to advocate for themselves. Since all the students struggle with the same learning issues, your child will feel, maybe for the first time, that they belong and as a parent you feel like you have resources and people who will help you and your student.
My daughters have attended Windward for 3 years. Windward has taught them how to read and write and given them the skills needed to succeed in the future using a multi-sensory and research based curriculum.
My girls were taught organizational skills starting at a young age. They are extremely comfortable with being Dyslexic and advocating for themselves in both academic and social settings.
At Windward, there are no ‘bad’ teachers. There is no need to “keep your fingers crossed” before the class lists come out hoping to get the ‘IT’ teacher. They are all ‘IT’ teachers who are well trained and beyond amazing.
Every child would benefit from being taught The Windward Way!
My son went to Windward for five years. He was re-mediated and went seamlessly back to the mainstream education system. Windward taught him how to read and write but gave him much more than that. The school taught him there is no stigma to being dyslexic. It taught him how to self-advocate to future teachers. Teachers he had after Windward raved about his beautiful writing style and his work ethic. He flourished at Windward and his self-esteem came back. Rather than hiding his struggles he was able to achieve excellent grades. He graduated high school with honors and is now at George Washington University.
This is truly a special school whose teachers are well trained in the proven Windward way. The school prides itself on being a research-based program with proven results and I can attest to that fact. The kids there are happy and confident and leave ready to meet future academic challenges knowing they have the tools needed to learn and succeed.
