Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Primary & Elementary Schools, Secondary & High Schools, Undergraduate Colleges

Mission: The need for education that creates relevance and context in a world of change is at its highest premium. There is a learning center in Northern Greece called Anatolia College that has been providing that relevance for over a century to students from all over the world-- through the lens of a liberal arts and humanities perspective.Historically, Anatolia has challenged its students to reach their potential through academic excellence. It has inspired them through humanitarianism ideals. It has given them a connection to and a greater experience of the world around them. And, because there is nothing so permanent as change, Anatolia's students are taught how to master and gain benefit from the process of change itself. They are prepared for a more challenging and competitive world, where changing political, economic and social issues are constantly shifting and even dissolving national boundaries. In fact, Anatolia itself has always been a metaphor for change. Positioned at the cultural crossroads of Europe, Anatolia was founded in 1886 in Asia Minor by educators from Massachusetts and chartered in 1894 as a college by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After leaving Asia Minor at the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the school moved to its present location in Thessaloniki, Greece, where it has become an educational icon noted for combining academic opportunity with academic excellence-- an institution whose graduates consistently go on to become leading contributors within their professions, their communities and the world marketplace. Today, Anatolia is geographically and culturally positioned at the heart of changes that will affect history for generations to come. To help young people prepare for those changes, Anatolia's opportunities continue to expand, shepherded by its Office of the Trustees in Boston, Massachusetts, and member Trustees throughout the U.S. and Greece, through generous financial gifts, and the hard work of alumni and friends of Anatolia worldwide. Academically and geographically, Anatolia is today more than ever a bridge and an investment of promise between The United States, Western Europe, and the emerging countries of Southeastern Europe.
