Mission: The Storytellers, Inc. is a multicultural multimedia arts organization designed to provide new venues for local artists and then train those artists to educate and re-sensitize at-risk youth and the community in which they live through the arts.
Programs: Working with health coordinators and school nurses in Kansas City, Kansas USD 500 and the Kansas City Missouri Public School District (KCMD), Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center and other area dentists, PEI and Storytellers will facilitate the development and distribution of educational materials to 2,000 middle-school students and leverage comprehensive dental exams for 400 Medicaid and non-Medicaid eligible children.The centerpiece of this program is to create a comic book and corresponding DVD with the help of area high school students. The comic book, while outlining the benefits of good oral hygiene, will center its story line on two current trends among youth that negatively impact their teeth and mouths: tongue piercing and tooth jewelry.
