Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Cancer, Education

Mission: The Side-Out Foundation is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families by supporting clinical trials, increasing patient support services and educating communities.

Results: The Side-Out Foundation (Side-Out) was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches and to have them work toward the common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts. We contribute the funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or patient support. The majority of donations are dedicated to research for stage 4 breast cancer, the most advanced form of the disease and the least funded area of research. Scientists introduced the results for the Side-Out Protocol, a pilot study funded entirely by Side-Out supporters, at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in June 2013. The trial is now in its second phase. The term side-out refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. It is hoped that The Side-Out Foundation will do the same for breast cancer patients, providing them with the support, education and best available treatments to regain control of their lives.

Programs: Volleyball tournaments were held as fundraisers for breast cancer research.

My daughter's volleyball team wanted to host a fund raising event and chose Breast Cancer for it's charity. The girls searched for a team jersey that would promote the event and found the Side-Out foundation sells it's own shirts and all profits go to Breast Cancer. As a bonus, the jersey t-shirts were available in two colors, so the opposing team could get matching shirts in the opposite color. The professionalism, attention to detail, and promptness of this foundation was phenomenal. The contact person, Rick, worked with me to ensure my satisfaction with the product. I can't wait to send the foundation photos of our event and report how much money we raise for this cause.
Top notch experience!
