We provide almost same day response to seniors 60 and over with a household income of $1,000 a month for one or $1,100 for two. Our newest programis focused on reducing electric bills for seniors by purchasing and installing energy efficient refridgerators, stoves, window a/c units etc. Many low income seniors have only one burner on their stove, no gaskets on their refriderator so their electric bill is more than t
they can pay.
We are also gearing up for our annual Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon that provides a special holiday meal for seniors who are in special facilities. More than 1,000 seniors are provided with a special meal every year......the only one they receive.

I serve as a Board member and volunteer for this all volunteer organization. It is so rewarding to be in a position to assist our low income seniors in their time of emergency need. I have served as a phone volunteer and have been able to assist first hand seniors with much needed medications, rental payments to avoid eviction, and special medical equipment. Also, I have been able to work with the senior to help them connect with SLF partners (other agencies) to continue assistance after SLF has met the senior's emergency need. We are one of the few organizations without delay in providing the needed funds.
Around 5 years ago, when the organization(SLF) began helping seniors with bills they were struggling to pay, I answered the phone among other many duties. I found it particularly heartwarming to have the opportunity to work directly with each senior and help them with not only paying a bill but what they might do to conserve money by changing their lifestlye or applying for appropriate services. For example some seniors were bogged down with bank charges from overdrawn bank accounts. I suggested they move their checking accounts to a nonprofit credit union where the charges were free or minimal. I also found that some were eligible to apply for free monthly medicare charges. This change would save the senior approximately $88.00 a month for an indifinate time which could add up to thousands over a period of their senior lifetime. There are no words to describe how blessed you can be for interacting with these precious people. If you have any spare time to give I would like to encourage you to get involved with our organization or even make a donation to us to help these seniors. If you would like to find out how you can get involved or make a donation, please contact me on my cell at 904 504-8840. As the customer service representative I will be glad to tell you more about our organization.
This is a very special organization. It is all-volunteer, so that 96 percent of the money raised goes directly to help senior citizens in crisis in Duval County, FL. I raise funds for it and serve on the Board because I have answered phone calls to our hotline and know that the need is real and the organization’s money is well spent. When seniors have no place else to turn in an emergency, we are there to write a check to pay their rent or a utility bill or for a prescription, usually within 24 hours. It is that rapid response that makes the Senior Life Foundation so effective. Donations and volunteers are always needed. Visit www.seniorlifejax.org.
