Derris Ross, founder and CEO of The Ross Foundation, is dedicated to helping this under served neighborhood revive in order to thrive. He provides mentorship and support to youth. As a result, young people find purpose and hope and their grades are positively impacted. They then become "backyard" mentors and assist their friends to succeed. The Ross Foundation also provides support to mothers who have lost children to violence through A Mother's Cry support group. The RF provides basic services to residents, including school supplies, food, water, clothing, and holiday events. The Ross Foundatuon also works with the police department, Eskanazi Hospital, mental health professionals, and temporary housing, in order to de-escalate high risk situations.
I have so much respect and confidence in the vision Derris Ross has for his community. He is a man of action and he gets results. Other programs include neighborhood beautification/ clean-up in order to help alleviate environmental stress. Derris Ross is inspired and truly cares about the individuals living in the neighborhood he grew up in. He went away to college and when he came back he saw that the area had not changed and was in sharp decline. He returned and works everyday in the heart of 42nd and Post, a food desert with a high crime rate. It is an honor to know him and I simply cannot say enough about Derris. I have seen him in action. He deserves our support.
