It all started with a saddle:
I met Beck When I went on marketplace to buy a saddle. It was a Bob Marshall and I had had a bad experience buying one from someone else previously. Beck assured me that this was an amazing saddle, and when I received it, she did not disappoint! It was perfect and everything she said it would be. It's still my favorite animals. Comfortable saddle!
In later conversation, I asked if she had a good husband horse. She showed me pictures of Magic and said he was an ex Amish buggy horse and she had him for a year, and he was great on the trails. We made the trip down to Maryland and met him. It was a big beefy boy and so sweet! We have had him a couple years now, and Anyone can take him out on a trails. He's a very good and patient trail horse.
She then Contacted me sometime later and said they had another ex. Amish horse that was on the smaller side. But very sweet. That's when we met, Oakley. We took him home as well and got him our on the trails. He was no to the trails So there was an adjustment period, But hes a fast learner!
Fast forward a few months and Beck contacted me about another ax Amish buggy boy, Timothy Felix. This poor boy had been to the kill pen TWICE! We made the trip to meet him, and my husband wasn't actually set in another horse....but when he saw him, he quickly melted. This poor guy just looked so defeated, and probably thinking he was making yet another trip to a kill pen. We took him home and he slowly realized the he was HOME! We changed his name to one more deserving of this handsome boy, the Great Gatsby. Over time, his silly personality came out! His the funny, derpy horse I've always wanted! When someone asks his breed we say "derpis equis"
Our buggy boys are simply amazing and we can't imagine life before them! We even had Magic and Gatsby in out wedding!
Beck treats all the horses that come to her Sanctuary like they were her own! She puts a ton of time, lare nights and a lot of effort into this dream of hers! She vets all adopters and follows up after they are placed! She believes in being honest about her horses as to not set them up for failure. She is truly the most compassionate, hard working person I've ever met! And it all started with a saddle ❣️
I have been taking my grand daughter to this sanctuary for quite a few years. She has grown along with the residents and now volunteers weekly! Watching these residents heal, find new homes and even live here permanently has been a rewarding and great learning experience. We love them all and consider them part of our family!! Thank you all for doing what you do and letting us be part of it.
I absolutely love being able to volunteer here and have the opportunity to help and love animals in need!
My daughter and I have volunteering with Phoenyx for a little less then a year and have enjoyed the time we spend with the animals and seeing the care and attention they receive to support there individual needs. The animals all thrive for human interaction and it is very clear these animals are loved by all that support this organization. With more help and support they will continue to get the best. It has been a rewarding experience to show my daughter the value in volunteering and supporting these animals. Her empathy just grows with each experience and has brought her mindfulness for animal care forward with their well being just as important. Its helping shape her into a kind, empathic person and extremely rewarding.
We have truly enjoyed our time volunteering with Phoenyx Farm and Sanctuary. It’s a blessing to be able to serve the animals who have found their home here, and it’s wonderful to see the lives they’re able to have because the Sanctuary has welcomed them and taken such good care of them.
I was first introduced to this organization at one of the craft events. My daughter at the time was obsessed with horses. The staff took excellent time completely unprompted to show my daughter the horses and answer all of her questions. And I'm sure she had a million. We then since have been able to network together as colleagues on medical questions and animal care questions. It is clear that they care about their animals and do everything that they are able to with the limited resources they have. Not everybody is suited to be a rescue however I encourage you to take a minute and see how you can help support the mission!
There is so much love and care in this place. The animals right down to the volunteers. It’s a beautiful thing that they do and we feel fortunate to have stopped by their open house one day and now to be volunteering. It’s been a wonderful experience for our family.
I have worked in animal rescue for many years. Since moving to the area just 2 years ago I was looking for opportunities to volunteer and saw a post for the sanctuary. I have been volunteering for several months now and enjoy it very much. It’s great getting to know the animals and other volunteers too. Rescue can be challenging, but is also very rewarding and I love seeing the rewards at the Phoenyx Sanctuary.
I have volunteered at the Phoenyx Farm and Sanctuary for many years, in fact I was the very first volunteer before we had our 501(c)3 status. I have watched the organization grow so much through the years and could not be prouder to be a part of the amazing work that is done at this location. The people that dedicate their time to being here and making a difference in the lives of these animals are truly selfless and inspirational. It is sometimes difficult to maintain motivated to do tasks such as volunteering, especially when the work is physically demanding, and you have other responsibilities. Being a part of this organization keeps you mindful that life can be short and to be grateful for the life that you have. It is at times emotionally draining, but the family that you gain through being here is worth it. I truly look forward to my time with my friend on Saturdays and especially look forward to seeing my gentle giant friends! They make every minute worth it all.
