The PEACE Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) ‘not for profit’ charity founded by the actor, Adrian Paul. The PEACE Fund focuses on small, under-funded and hard-working charities who are determined to make a positive difference to the lives of children living in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. The words Protect, Educate and Aid are the focus of The Peace Fund's goals. So - there were many charities where I could have put my energy so why this one? Firstly there was a personal connection - I had seen Adrian Paul of Highlander fame talk at fan conventions over many years about his passion for making a positive difference in the world and liked the fact that he was targetting small on the ground charities where he could be certain that any money raised went to children in need, and not get syphoned off elsewhere. I also liked the fact that this involvement enabled his fan base to get actively involved in very worthwhile activities. Adrian wanted to positively exploit his status for tangible good with real, concrete outcomes. I started to actively fundraise for The PEACE Fund when the Tsunami occurred and was able to marshall the resources of the Highlander fan base to raise $45,000 in an on line auction. Since then we have run a variety of different event to enable us to send funds to street children in Romania, children requiring organ transplants, support teacher workshops in Cambodia, Haiti victims of the earthquake and now cholera to name a few. We like to stay with these organisations for at least 5 years. It's not easy - all the PEACE volunteers have other jobs and make time out of very hectic lives to support PEACE's efforts. But, as Adrian often says, it isn't meant to be easy - nothing worthwhile is. It's hard work but very 'very' fulfilling.
