My elderly mother in law somehow thought she was donating $25 a year and then we found out she was actually donating $25 a month. There doesn’t seem to be a phone number or email address for us to cancel this donation even though this is beyond her budget. We think this may have been set up via a home call but not sure what we need to do to get this sorted out. I am disappointed that charities take advantage of elderly people who don’t keep up with the fast talking sales people and sign them up to donations beyond their means. Please beware of the sad tricks people use to meet targets. How do we cancel this donation!

Hi Kylie, your review is unfair, your mum has been a wonderful supporter of our organisation for the past 4 years and I'm sure she'd be disappointed in your untrue allegations. Our website clearly states the donations are monthly and your mum received an email with each donation. All of our websites have email addresses and contact phone numbers. We responded to you within 4 hours of receiving your email (we called and emailed) and adjusted your mum's donation. Regards, Troy.

The Orangutan Project is doing incredible work in conservation, and I couldn't be more impressed! Their commitment to protecting orangutans and their habitats is both inspiring and essential. Through their various initiatives, they not only focus on rescuing and rehabilitating orangutans but also engage in critical habitat restoration and community education.

What sets The Orangutan Project apart is their holistic approach. They recognize that preserving these magnificent creatures requires addressing the broader environmental challenges they face, including deforestation and poaching. Their transparency and dedication to effective, science-based solutions give me confidence that my support is making a real difference.

The team is passionate and knowledgeable, and their updates on rescued orangutans and ongoing projects are both heartwarming and motivating. It’s clear they genuinely care about the future of these animals and their ecosystems. I highly recommend supporting The Orangutan Project; they are truly making a positive impact in the world!

Awesome charity. They rescue orangutans who suffer greatly due to (in-)human interaction. Their habitat destroyed by clear-cutting. Outright killed by people. Babies sold as pets. This organisation educates the public. Rescues orangutans. Spends years giving these wonderful animals medical care, emotional support, and survival training so they can be released back into the wild where they belong.

When I first heard about the Orangutan Project I was interested, because I love these animals. Finding out about how they are losing their homes and how so many young ones are orphaned by humans killing their mothers, and leaving them helpless, caused me to look into how I could help. I then adopted an orphan, Mary. This organization has kept me up to date with her progress and sends a monthly invoice for my donation. It's not just an amount I send every month and don't know where it goes. I feel good about helping Mary and other orphaned orangutans through this organization!

I first heard of The Orangutan Project two years ago, when l did a Fundraising trip to Sumartra. It was truly amazing to see the work being done and the dedication the volunteers have for the cause. I have since followed T.O.P on social media, and regulary see the good news updates, and the great works T.O.P helps to fund. I have been a volunteer for The Orangutan Project for nearly 10 years and am so proud of this charity. I have been to Sumatra on a conservation trip and have seen with my own eyes where the funds go to and how they help not only the orangutans, but all the animals in the forest and the local villagers.
I am proud that TOP helps local communities with roviding jobs and education and food for school children. There has been a massive increase in children attending school since this started.
A main reason I am so proud of volunteering for this charity is that 100% of the adoption and donation money raised goes directly to aid. Nothing is taken out for advertising etc as with other charities.
I have seen orphaned orangutans from the illegal wildlife trade be rehabilitated and returned to live a life in the wild.

The Orangutan Project is an organisation I have been supporting since approximately 2014 either by donating, volunteering or fundraising. The first time I heard Leif (the founder) speak I was moved to do more. They seem to have a holistic approach to their mission in saving not only the orangutans but other species impacted by palm oil plantations, logging and wildlife trafficking. They look at the bigger picture by also supporting and educating local communities by teaching them the importance of looking after the forest for not only the benefit of the animals but the whole community. They also support other NGO’s who work directly on the ground doing the frontline work such as rescues, rehabilitation, and releases. It’s like looking at TOP like a ripple effect. The main focus is the orangutans but all the other work they do is crucial and has a impact on their main goal..saving them from extinction.

The Orangutan Project's dedication & persistence show that in the face of great challenge it is still possible to build towards a better future. Their work both seeks to mitigate past & on-going harms & inspires others to join the struggle to turn our species' collective heading around.

At a time when human induced climate change & biodiversity collapse present existential threat to humanity & those we share this biosphere with, it is easy to become dispirited, to adopt a passive attitude.

Seeing the work of TOP on the ground making a real difference to the lives of individuals, & more broadly, is vital reminder that we are capable of more than mindless exploitation, when we choose to apply ourselves to work together for collective benefit.

Cliché or not, this organisation, & those like them, are beacons of hope for our future. Guiding lights amid a human world so often driven by shallow fears, ignorance & delusion. A reminder we choose whether to be unsustainable parasite or good shepherd. I thank them for this essential lesson.

We have been donating to this special NPO for several years: Our first step into the project was an adoption of the orangutan "Gokong". We are from Paderborn, Germany. Year per year our youngest son had wished a monkey for Christmas. Many books, stuffed animals, movies about Jane Godall or Dian Fossey later we ran out of ideas to "donate" him a responsible and sustainable approach to the animals. Then I found the option to support "The Orang Utan Project" by adopting a monkey. That was the most perfect Christmas gift for our son.
In fact, we are less interested in supporting a single orangutan and more interested in supporting the organization, the founder and staff who are working with so much courage, passion and expertise to improve the future of these animals and for the overall natural conditions.
But adoptions, stories about the return of Orangutans to their natural environment generates awareness and interest, which helped us to transport the subject even better for our children.
Every Christmas we read together the annual reports of Gokongs development ... it was as fascinating and emotional as the Christmas story. Next week our son will have his 18th birthday, and I hope he will stay connected to the project and hopefully he will be able to forward successfull stories to his children.

The work that Lief Cocks and his team do to bring to our attention the plight of the Orangutan is nothing short of amazing. The hardship these cousin creatures suffer is heartfelt; from Palm Oil destruction and fires, to recent floods and poaching. The Orangutan deserves our help and attention and The Orangutan Project provide the education, dedicated facilities and specialist volunteers to see these animals helped safely back into their natural habitat. This is the most deserving charity.

The Orangutan Project is an amazing organisation. I really like that they look at the big picture. The Orangutan Project does the most amazing work not only to rescue and rehabilitate orangutans on the ground in Indonesia, but crucially in education work to widen and deepen understanding of the threats these animals face.

Ignorance is one of the greatest inhibitors in the fight to reduce the threat of deforestation in orangutan habitats, and of the illegal wildlife trade. The Orangutan Project works tirelessly to ensure that rescue and rehabilitation work is balanced by education. Supporters receive regular, detailed and informative updates on rescued orangutans, but are also updated on the wider elements associated with conserving these majestic creatures.

For example, The Orangutan Project takes a multi-faceted approach to conservation, including education and empowerment of indigenous communities. The aim is to change the view of orangutans as pests to crops, and to reduce human-orangutan conflict. This work is vital in engaging support for conversation work amongst indigenous communities and empowering people with the tools and knowledge for sustainable living.

Another example is the work done by The Orangutan Project to seek and implement legal protection for Indonesian forests, which are continually under threat for logging, palm oil plantations, and mining. This includes work on the ground to protect forests from illegal activity, but also legal advocacy to obtain legal protection for forest habitats.

I support The Orangtan Project precisely because of this multi-faceted approach to the conservation issues in Indonesia. Conservation is never a straightforward or clear process. It is easy to be moved by the pictures of orphaned baby orangutans, but harder to temper an emotional reaction with a clear cut, holistic approach to address the issues behind why those babies are orphaned. The Orangutan Project does just that, and has been doing so for many years.

My support in monetary terms may be limited but I feel empowered by the information I receive from The Orangutan Project to advocate amongst my family, friends, colleagues and community to promote the conservation message that aims to protect the forests of Indonesia, the lifestyle of indigenous populations, and, crucially, the gentle, unique, beautiful orangutans.

I was also impressed at how the Project supports, educates, trains and employs local people. This is also particularly important to me - he tangata, he tangata, he tangata - tis' people, tis' people, tis' people. I planned my own fundraising event a couple of years ago and through this process spoke to people at TOP and other Orangutan/Rainforest protection NFP's and the feedback I got from many people is that the approach Leif and TOP take to improve the problem is smart, collaborative and effective. TOP not only designs and implements many of its own successful projects but also recognises that conservation work is a group effort. TOP collaborates with other not-for-profit organisations to provide far-reaching protection to critical ecosystems in Borneo and Sumatra.

The organisation is focused on conservation work that is effective, measurable and comprehensive. By keeping admin costs low, 100% of the donations raised go directly to field initiatives. By 2019 TOP has protected over 1.1 million acres of rainforest in these two S.E.A regions. From my experience, founder Leif Cocks is extremely knowledgable and passionate. Orangutans are now only found in Indonesia and Malaysia, on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. Recently it was discovered that there are actually 3 species of Orangtans. They share 97% of our DNA, are highly intelligent conscious beings, just like us. Orangutans are expected to be the first of the great apes to become extinct, possibly within 15 years, because of habitat destruction.

The Orangutans Project strategy is to secure land that contains wild orangutan populations and to rescue, rehabilitate and release ex-captive orangutans to secure habitats. In protecting habitat for Orangutans, TOP is also providing habitat for other flora and fauna including Sumatran tigers, rhinos, elephants, sunbears and all the other species that make up a functioning ecosystem.

I am impressed in the way TOP collaborates and partners with all other bona fide orangutan conservation projects as well as running their own projects to achieve their goals with maximum effectives and efficiency.

I believe that the way humans are treating one of our closest living relatives, a gentle, loving and intelligent species, is an appalling commentary on the greed, callousness and short-sightedness that shames our race. The Orangutan Project is doing what it can to redress this awful situation by providing support to animals that have suffered at the hands of humans and attempting to preserve their dwindling habitat from total commercial exploitation. If we are to maintain any dignity as human beings, we should be prepared to be judged on how we protect species who are so utterly vulnerable to our lack of care for the planet we share. Please help TOP in its work to defend these magnificent creatures.

I've been proudly volunteering for The Orangutan Project for over three years now. I've also visited orangutan rescue centres in Borneo and Sumatra, on two occasions with TOP's founder Leif Cocks, and seen first hand where the donations go. I would not expend my precious time and energy on a charity that was wasting money on administration or gimmicky promotions, but I know that the money we work so hard to raise in Canberra goes straight to where it's most needed. TOP's admin costs are between nine and eleven per cent, thanks to the charity's dedicated volunteers. In Indonesia the people on the front line speak of Leif and TOP with great respect and gratitude. "We can't save the orangutan without your help," as one Indonesian man said to me. Diana

The Orangutan Project (TOP) is a great organisation supporting orangutan conservation NGOs in the field to reach their challenging conservation goals. TOP is supporting the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation in Indonesia on the protection and monitoring of newly established reintroduced orangutan populations and the welfare and enrichment of orphaned orangutans within our rehabilitation centres. We are truly grateful for their support which makes a real difference to our success.

TOP - an excellent choice for those that want to support hands-on conservation of orangutans and their habitat. I do not know any other organization that is that dedicated to assure the long-term survival of our orange friends.

Since the very first day Leif visited our project (about 15 years ago), he has always been very supportive of our grassroots conservation activities in Sabah, Bornean Malaysia. Over the year we have built a genuine and mutual trust and understanding. The Orangutan Project is a very supportive organisation, and they are very easy to work with too. They are very professional and serious about their mission, and can bring ground-breaking ideas toward orang-utan conservation needs. I feel very proud and lucky to be a partner of TOP. Their support means a lot to our project (HUTAN-KOCP).

TOP have been supporting the work of the Orangutan Foundation since 2000. They currently support one guard post and a reintroduction camp in the Lamandau Wildlife Reserve. I admire the dedication and passion all at Top have for the conservation and protection of the orangutan and their habitat . All have benefited from TOP's support and orangutan lives have
been saved. I look forward to many years of continued partnership

The Orangutan Project was our very first donor when I founded the Centre for Orangutan Protection in Borneo, Indonesia. I am very proud to work together with TOP and we have achieved numberous success and victories in the front lines. Fron rescuing orangutan to halting forest destruction and the development of new oil palm plantation.

A few years ago my 12 year old showed me The Orangutan Project's website and asked if we could adopt an orpahaned orangutan. It is now our family's charity of choice - we give monthly, fundraise, volunteer and have even been on a fundraising trek to see released orangutans back in the wild! The Orangtuan Project is a grassroots organisation that works closely with local communities in Indonesia. They are doing such amazing work to save the orangutan from extinction - and to preserve remaining habitat and I'm so proud to be a part of it.

The Orangutan Project is one of the few hopes left for orangutans I believe. They focus on all aspects of saving the species and I have seen the great work they do. They are committed and I am happy to continue to donate my time and money towards this organisation.

I have supported The Orangutan Project for many years, and more recently became an active volunteer. I have seen first hand how the money raised by volunteers around the country is put to work on the ground in Sumatra for the benefit not only of the orangutans but also the other animals that share their home, and the local communities. I continue to volunteer for this group because I know that the money being raised and the messages being spread are having real, positive impacts.

I have volunteered with The Orangutan Project (TOP) for almost eight years and fully support this organisation. The TOP team maximises the return from every dollar to make a difference in conservation and this is why I am committed to contributing my time to fundraise for the organisation. Volunteering with TOP has been rewarding and I've met so many amazing dedicated and inspiring people who are making a difference to saving orangutans and all the wildlife that share their forest. TOP also supports Indigenous communities that live in the forest as well as other forest communities, through education scholarships and community development projects (ie. sustainable farming). TOP has a holistic approach to conservation, which is effective to get results.
