Causes: Chambers of Commerce & Business Leagues
Mission: To provide advocacy for cancer patients and to promote standards of excellence for high-quality cancer care as well as to study, research and exchange information, experiences, and ideas leading to improvement in oncology.
Programs: - co-hosted a well-attended, ce-certified joint conference with the south carolina oncology society (scos) which highlighted the latest updates in oncology, hematology, and healthcare policy on the national and state level. - executed a well-attended, ce-certified annual conference in raleigh featuring national experts who discussed the latest developments in clinical research, oncology treatments, and quality initiatives. - supported the advancement of fellows at wake forest university, duke university, and unc chapel hill through awards and special recognition at the ncoa annual conference. - strengthened ncoa's presence by increasing membership by 26%, retaining 95% of last year's members. - provided timely and valuable educational resources to members and practices across north carolina through co-sponsorship of the state society education series. - continued to be an informational resource for multidisciplinary cancer care teams in north carolina through regular dissemination of oncology news and healthcare policy updates, including a complimentary educational webinar for advanced practitioners. - continued to advocate for north carolina patients on the state and federal level through the assistance of its lobbying firm, smith, anderson, blount, dorsett, mitchell & jernigan, l. L. P- led a successful advocacy campaign to inform and educate state and federal legislators on the negative impact of cms' proposed part b demonstration payment model on cancer care. In december, cms officially withdrew the proposal. - submitted comments regarding the cms macra rule, opps and pfs rules, and the icer methodology for value assessments of oncology drugs. - provided members educational opportunities under medicare's new quality payment program (created by macra) through webinars, calls, and meetings. - provided funding for asco's young investigator award to help promote excellence in oncology research.
