Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animals

Mission: The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is an education and conservation driven zoological organization whose mission is to inspire respect for nature through an appreciation of birds.

We are the only accredited zoo devoted entirely to birds in the United States.

The Aviary''s three-acre campus in an urban park on Pittsburgh''s North Side includes family-friendly interactive exhibits and recreational facilities, conservation education programs, a veterinary and teaching hospital, and an internationally recognized conservation and field research center.

Our exhibits, classrooms, and conservation programs serve children and families, students and teachers, special needs community groups, veterinary students and professionals, and the scientific community.

Programs: Conservation education offerings at the National Aviary include:

  • Indoor and Outdoor educational exhibits
  • Staff-led daily programs that include opportunities to feed the birds, meet our veterinary staff, visit the Aviary kitchen, and attend nature walks
  • FliteZone, our daily free-flight bird show that is offered year-round
  • Accredited science education classes for children pre-K-grade 12
  • Programs for scout troops and community groups
  • Four annual summer camps for children preschool-age 14
  • Ecotours and birding workshops for all ages
