The Mattress Factory is one of the few TRULY artistic gems not only in PIttsburgh, but in the states. A venue that provides artists the freedom to TRULY be daring, and offers viewers an equally freeing and imaginative experience like no other. It is an oasis of tangible creativity. All ages, all backgrounds... like all art, it is the energy the viewer puts into the viewing that will make the most ultimate experience, but the MF provides such a welcoming and visually engaging environment, you can help but be engaged. A rarity. I am continually thankful that the MF exists, and it exists here in Pittsburgh!

Mission: The mattress factory is a research and development lab for artists. As a museum of contemporary art, it commissions new site-specific works, presents them to the widest possible audience and maintains selected individual installations in a growing and distinctive permanent collection.
Programs: Artistic program - exhibition costs including materials, labor, artist stipends, travel and housing, marketing expenses, curatorial and archival staff salaries and benefits, permanent collection maintenance, and facility and administrative costs.
education program - a large variety of education programs-many of them free-serve students, teachers and families in our urban neighborhood, including guided tours, after school programs, classes for families with pre-school children, family days, summer classes, teen programs, school partnerships and extensive outreach programs.
visitor services - museum admission staff including gallery attendants, shop and cafe staff, volunteer coordinating expenses, plus facility and administrative costs. Serve an audience of over 75,000 people through innovative exhibitions and programs with 51% of visitors from the surrounding region, 47% from outside the region, and 2% from around the world.
