Under the leadership of music director jeffrey kahane. The orchestra maintains its status as a pre-eminent interpreter of historical masterworks and a champion of contemporary composers. During its almost 50-year history, the orchestra has made 31 recordings, toured europe, south america, and japan, performed across north america, earning adulation from audiences and critics alike, and garnered eight ascap awards for adventurous programming. Headquartered in downtown los angeles, laco presents eight orchestral series at both glendale's alex theatre and ucla's royce hall, five baroque conversations concerts at downtown los angeles' zipper concert hall, and three westside connections chamber music concerts at the moss theatre in santa monica. Additionally, laco's outreach programs: meet the music, community partners, campus to concert hall, and the laco/usc thornton strings mentorship program reach thousands of young people annually, nurturing future misicians and composers as well as inspiring a love of classical music. Laco programs reach approximately 25,000 in southern california, plus an additional 1. 4 million radio listeners nationwide. Highlights of the 2016-17 season included:lift every voice, a three-week festival exploring courage and compassion in music and the lives of kurt weill, rabbi joachim prinz and martin luther king, jr. , including a performance of weill's musical lost in the starslocal and world premieres by composers julia adolph, albert schnelzer, adam schoenberg, kurt weill, bruce adolphe, andrew norman, john adams and christopher cerrone. Yo-yo ma, long-time collaborator with jeffrey kahane, joined the orchestra in a celebratory concert of mozart and brahms. Artist residencies with armenian violinist movses pogossian, iranian-born harpsichordist mahan esfahani. A series of internationally-themed chamber music dinners hosted by los angeles-based foreign consuls.
