THE CENTER IS THE HOME FOR ORPHANS OF SOCIETY BUILT AND SUPPORTED BY OTHER ORPHANS. WE COME TO THE CENTER FOR EXPLORATION, FOR DISCUSSION, FOR SUPPORT, AND A SENSE OF WELL-BEING LEARNING THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE STRUCK WITH THIS 'DISEASE' THAT SO MUCH OF SOCIETY REJECTS, CONDEMNS, AND VICIOUSLY ATTACKS. WE ARE ALL ONE AND IT IS THE CENTER THAT HELPS US TO UNDERSTAND THAT, DESPITE WHAT OTHERS SAY.
The Center is far more than merely a place for "Queer" people to meet and network. The Center is a place for questioning, curious, or newly out people to go to for support, answers, and safety. My first experience at the Center was 7 years ago at the youth program (Y.E.S.). My experience there was not only positive, but shaped how I identify myself within the community. At the time I was confused, and knew nothing about being "queer" or about the queer community. I owe a lot to the Center, particularly to the Y.E.S. program, and I hope many others can have a similar experience.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center is a great resource for LGBT individuals and their allies. It benefits LGBT community in so many ways from its social events to its educational events to its youth program and health initiatives. It houses a variety of useful organizations and is in my opinion one of the best places to be in NYC for LGBT individuals.
The LGBT center is not only a great place to meet with community members and participate in great activities, but it symbolizes the diversity and strength of the New York City LGBT community.
The Center is a home away from home for many members of the LGBTQ community... I've been to many support groups, public events, and casual meetings there and I've always felt comfortable and safe. The Center staff really does an amazing job of creating a welcoming, inclusive space. I feel really lucky to live near the Center so that I can go to events there all the time! And most of the events are free or cheap, too!!
The Center is an amazing place that offers a wide range of services, programs and wonderful activities and special events to the community. Its website looks really great these days, and there is a tremendous amount of info to be found there. I love their cultural programs, and this summer's art exhibits are really top-notch! I personally know several people who have been seriously helped through their counseling services, and their youth programs are the best for LGBTQ young people in the City. This is a great palce to go if you are just coming out, if you are new to the City or if you just want to find out what's happening for the LGBT crowd every day of the year.
The center is an amazing place and home for so many. I am so proud I am able to help an organization such as this one.
