Mission: The legacy center community development corporation (tlc) provides relief and development help to impoverished communities and families. It is relentless in moving people forward in achieving their ultimate potential. Tlc fights to see people change for life and not just for the moment. To take every step with intention. To live life on purpose. Tlc sets out to not only help people in their situation, but out of their situation to be able to create a self-sustaining and productive life.
Programs: Marketplace - at the legacy center the marketplace was developed to fight the effects of poverty and underemployment by providing free groceries funded through food bank, united way and hpnap grants. In additiuon, donated non-food products come from a combination of private donors and legacy center partners (e. G. Goods plus foundation, world vision, etc. ) during 2017, 5,586 families received 94,021 pounds of free groceries. In addition, all of our guests received information are connected to partnering agencies for additional support and resources (e. G. Job placement and training, housing, immigration services, etc. ).
supply the future: tlc's supply the future initiative distributed 1,322 backpacks with school supplies via a back to school block party in august, 2017. In addition, tlc partnered with a network of local schools, other nonprofit agencies, and churches across all five boroughs to provide backpacks and supplies to families in crisis. The legacy center believes that if the next generation of students is well equipped they will be positioned for successful in school.
disaster relief: in response to hurricane maria, the legacy center received private donations to support recovery and clean up efforts in puerto rico. $6,000 of these funds were given to 2 churches in puerto rico who in turn purchased tents, tarps for roofs and non-perishables.
