Causes: Public & Societal Benefit
Mission: Rooted in the lebron james family foundation's mission to positively affect the lives of at-risk children through education, the foundation's "i promise" program has been evolving since lebron james committed his time and resources to improving graduation rates in his hometown of akron in 2011. Through this initiative, ljff serves more than 1,200 akron-area students by providing them with the programs, resources and mentors they need to stay in school and on track to a better future. Through ljff's signature "we are family" approach, this wraparound support extends to the students' entire families as well with parent involvement emphasized in every event and with ljff also offering ged and career preparatory classes for active i promise students' parents. In 2015, james partnered with the university of akron to guarantee four-year college scholarships to all of its eligible i promise students who graduate from high school and complete the criteria in the classroom and in the community.

Through this initiative, ljff serves more than 1,200 akron public schools students identified by aps as at risk prior to entering the third grade. The foundation provides programs, mentors, incentives and strategic outreach to the children year-round to help them be successful and ultimately graduate from high school. In 2015, james partnered with the university of akron to guarantee four-year college scholarships to all of its eligible i promise students who graduate from high school and meet the required criteria in the classroom and in the community. The foundation's goals in 2015 have expanded to help the children not just graduate high school, but become scholarship eligible, and to bring their entire families along for the journey to a better future.
st. Vincent st. Mary high school: the foundation has been committed to supporting lebron's alma mater, st. Vincent st. Mary high school, in akron, ohio. The foundation provided funds for the renovation of the school gymnasium, training rooms and locker rooms and has outfitted all of its sports teams with brand new uniforms. The foundation also hosts a high-school basketball tournament at the school annually. This commitment falls in line with the foundation's support of education and co-curricular educational initiatives where lebron received his high school education.
savannah james initiatives: the james family's contributions to their community have extended through savannah james' initiatives that aim to empower the youth and young women in akron. She hosts an annual i promise makeover event that uplifts underprivileged girls from akron-area high schools by helping them prepare for prom with dresses, accessories, and words of encouragement and self-confidence. In 2017, she channeled that same commitment to inspire and support young women to launch her "women of our future" mentorship program for high school girls in akron, starting at her alma mater, buchtel high school. This program offers one-on-one mentoring, constant encouragement, and other year-round supports for young ladies navigating the challenges of high school.
community events: the foundation consistently participates in and supports numerous activities and causes across the community that are directly related to its mission and/or encourages positive change in lebron's hometown of akron. Being a part of its economic growth and working with local businesses to help rebuild our community is important to the foundation and its overall mission.
