Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Public & Societal Benefit

Mission: Rooted in the lebron james family foundation's mission to positively affect the lives of at-risk children through education, the foundation's "i promise" program has been evolving since lebron james committed his time and resources to improving graduation rates in his hometown of akron in 2011. Through this initiative, ljff serves more than 1,200 akron-area students by providing them with the programs, resources and mentors they need to stay in school and on track to a better future. Through ljff's signature "we are family" approach, this wraparound support extends to the students' entire families as well with parent involvement emphasized in every event and with ljff also offering ged and career preparatory classes for active i promise students' parents. In 2015, james partnered with the university of akron to guarantee four-year college scholarships to all of its eligible i promise students who graduate from high school and complete the criteria in the classroom and in the community.
