Programs: Healthy living:the ymca is a leading voice on health and wellness. We bring families closer together encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests resulting in 8,692 people in our community receiving the suport, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. Ths is particularly important as our nation continues to sruggle with an obesity crisis and families struggle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fullfillment. Our programs are accessible and affordable and are open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. In 2016, we provided $53,534 in financial assistance to people who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate
youth development:the hopkinsville ymca is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why we help young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our ymca programs (mom's day out/summer camp- 126 students, youth sports - 1452 participants, swim lessons-242 swimmers, dance & gymnastics, and arts & music), offer a broad range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. Direct financial assistance is provided to enable all to participate.
social responsibility:the hopkinsville ymca believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs for many years. In partnerships with our local school system, the housing authority of hopkinsville, the 913 main street ministries and the challenge house initiative. Y programs such as jobs for life, pryme tyme after school, and summer camp, warrior knights adn girl power teen programs and the at&t youth jobs, we delivered training, resources and support that empower our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps and overcome obstacles. In 2016, we engaged 541 members, participants and volunteers in activities that strengthen our community and help pave the way for future generations to thrive. Our special needs summer camp and the "learn to swim" program beneftted inner-city youth as a response to our community's needs. The rock steady boxing program provides those dealing with parkinson's disease, improving their quality of life through a non-contacct boxing based curriculum.
