My oldest and I volunteer with this wonderful organization. My youngest daughter has a CHD (congenital heart defect) and had open heart surgery at 3 months old. Our family has experienced the fear and uncertainty of having our child's heart diagnosed with abbreviations we hadn't heard before (AVSD in our little one's case). The uncertainty of hospital visits, meeting doctors and nurses, putting our child's life in their keeping. Praying on our knees for a positive outcome with little or no complications. The people you meet along the way, those who have been there too mean a world of difference. To have a hand to hold, the support of food and other necessities is truly a Godsend. This organization, founded by fellow parents of Heart Warriors (Joy and Stacey) goes above and beyond. They provide support and love and meals and the goodies found in the "Heart Cart". Just knowing that they work diligently to nurture a relationship with the cardiologists and nurses we depend on to help us advocate and learn everything we can to support and help our children thrive brings so much peace and empowerment. They also help us stay informed with accurate information on their Facebook page and encourage us to foster personal relationships with other parents to further encourage and support us. Their mindset is to promote a village of loving caring supporting people that an entire community is welcome to join and be a part of.
As a nurse who takes care of families after delivery, I see first hand the difficulties and challenges heart families face. To be immediately separated from your baby is devastating especially not knowing what the next few hours hold. There is a real need for someone to step in and walk beside these families and provide support and little comforts from home during such a trying time. The volunteers and director associated with Healing Hearts Project step right in and fill those shoes. It’s so comforting to know there is someone who has walked the walk who can lend and ear and a hand when it is needed the most.
The Healing Hearts Project is a wonderful organization that supports the children and families of children with heart defects. They supply snacks that families can have while their child is in the hospital as well as surgery day packets for the families. They have been so faithful to the heart families in the CVICU at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
I have been fortunate to witness The Healing Hearts Project staff and volunteers provide such compassion, and devotion to
any heart warrior family. Their knowledge from experience with their own miraculous daughter is the driving force for shared experiences that contributes to the success in providing care, compassion, empathy and resources in crisis.
They supported us through our journey with our baby boy by means of a gift bag assuring us that we aren’t alone. They provided meals and most importantly support through social connections of other families that has gone through the similar journey. Due to having this organization, we have made lifelong friends to pray, cheer and walk with us through this journey. We are so blessed to be part of this organization.
Such a great resource for families of CHD. They are always there to lend an ear or literally give you a full size towel to shower with at the hospital.
Among the chaos of finding out about my child’s CHD diagnosis (before he was born) a friend referred me to this organization. I joined their support Facebook page and immediately felt welcomed and happy to have people share their personal CHD experiences with us. When it came time for my son’s surgery, THHP members met us with a day of surgery bag with goodies to help with our hospital stay. Members of this organization have continually reached out to help us however we may need.
