Mission: The mission of the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse (GCSA) is to increase the impact of recovery in Georgia’s communities through education, advocacy and training.
Results: Through private donations, foundation contributions and grants, we are dedicated to strengthening communities by promoting quality addiction prevention, treatment and recovery practices, and by supporting public policy that not only reduces the stigma associated with addiction, but also supports the development and implementation of a strong prevention, treatment and recovery services system.
Programs: Georgia certified addiction recovery empowerment specialist (cares)- recovery peer support services; care applicants attend a 40-hour basic skills training course, pass a cerification exam; provide recovery planning and restore utilization, individual and group recovery support, and recovery advocacy services.
recovery symposia - to develop and manage statewide community symposiums to develop - local resources and leadership in recovery oriented initiatives; local 'learning communities' as allies and partners to fulfill the vision of a system of care that is community based and supports a life of independence and recovery with access to high quality services; local awareness of the recovery movement and local behavorial services, supports, and resources.
recovery awareness campaing - working with community service boards across georgia in operationalizing recovery; to identify their strengths in supporting individuals on their recovery journeys, as they create and sustain ways to live lives of their choosing in the communities of their choice.
