Programs: The after-school enrichment program served 200 parents and children during the two school years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. The program provides services during regular school days (3:00pm -6:30pm), early dismissal days (1:00pm - 6:30pm) and a spring break camp. The program includes enrichment activities, individual tutoring, help with homework, spiritual guidance, and a special emphasis on reading comprehension and math. In 2016 the partnership with one of our schools was extended to include allowing forge after-school staff to mentor selected students one day a week during the school day. The goal of not having any of the after-school students attend summer school because of academic performance was achieved. All of the after-school parents achieved their parental involvement goals by attending enrichment sessions and volunteering at the forge. The forge extended it's partnership with the houston food bank by participating in a food program that encourages healthy eating.
forge athletic discipleship includes an internal basketball league for youths ages 5 - 14, competition with other ministries in an external league and aau competition. The aau team was officially established in 2015 and continued is expand in 2016. They competed in several area tournaments and represented the forge well. The team members must commit to a structured schedule of character development, academic development using online math and reading software and athletic skills development. In 2016 a girls volleyball team continued to compete in a league with other faith-based organizations and schools. The goal was to move to an aau style girls league in 2017.
the 2015 forge summer club served over 100 students for 10 weeks during the summer. The goal was to provide a fun time in a safe christ-centered environment, while meeting the practical child care needs for parents during the summer months. Daily activities consisted of team sports, academic development, character development and weekly field trips. At the end of the program some of the participants went to a out of town camp.
