The Earth Center of Maanu has been instrumental in helping me to uncover such an essental part of myself that I was having difficulty accessing. After undergrad, I began to develop a yearning for more connection to my culture, history, natural living, natural healing, etc. I could no longer satisfy my questions about God and the way of life with the knowledge that I was raised with and newer ways of thinking.
I began looking toward African philosophy, thought & spirituality and unexpectedly "stumbled" upon the Earth Center in 2011, while at a Kwanzaa festival. I began attending events- lectures and community gatherings, reading the material & engaging with the community. Alas, answers that I had been searching for were literally falling into my lap and so effortlessly. In May 2012 I began my official education with The Earth Center and have been an initiate since.
The depth of knowledge that The Earth Center has in the areas of natural healing, Kemetic philosophy, spirituality, existence, etc is remarkable. What's much more significant than just having information is having information that you can actually apply to transform your thoughts, behaviors & life. My worldview is so much greater and more comprehensive (even in its incompleteness) thanks to the wisdom that Master Naba inherited and graciously shared with the world.
Since my undergrad years at a university, I had been seeking resources to help me learn about spirituality and culture. Due to my Islamic influences, I was skeptical of the EC. Nonetheless, I I needed techniques to help me bring balance into my life and the atmosphere was very comfortable. I soon enrolled in the meditation class (here at the Chicago headquarters) because I liked the orientation. As I joined the initiation, a community of teachers and volunteers who were in support of the founder’s mission opened up to me. The mission was the promotion and preservation of culture coming from the oldest civilization humanity has known--Kemet (in Africa). This culture on first glance can frighten a colonized person; open mindedness was always necessary. For 11 years. I have stayed with the EC as student and volunteer.
Over the years, I have watched the Earth Center grow and affect so many people. I don't think the family my husband and I started would be as strong without the traditional values that we have gained through the education offered here. It has maintained a group of loyal students and many supporters locally and across the nation. Recently, an acquaintance from an organization with a similar goal was asking me about how the storefront stays staffed. Maybe it is rare to find this kind of organization where volunteers show up physically in person to build something and keep their doors open to the public several hours daily.
Finally last year when I was again pregnant, my then 9 year old son, toddler and I finally embarked on our first trip to Burkina Faso in West Africa. Only upon my exposures through the annual pilgrimage did I begin to comprehend just how the EC’s impact on indigenous communities. We traveled to the EC’s healing center, local traditional temples including a Voudon one. These places were sometimes in the bush, sometimes in a city, either having people who lived so simply. I observed how easily they came up with solutions to ordinary dilemmas a person experiences when technology and modern day contrivances are removed from the picture.. when nature holds the only solutions. It was quite an adjustment, it was rigorous for us. Yet I could personally feel this distant appreciation of an ecovillage lifestyle resurfacing in me.
All this exposure thanks to the legacy of the EC’s founder. Naba was a very renowned healer from the Dogon peoples and Gourmantche tribe in Africa himself. Many people compassionately received our group as his students. Also, I was finally able to make a connection between our services in the West and the mission that extended to the African continent.
Before coming to The Earth Center, I had an inkling that my deceased father, grand and great grand parents were in the spiritual realm but did not know the role my Ancestors played in my life. Since becoming initiated at The Earth Center's M'TAM School of Kemetic Spirituality and Philosophy, I have been taught the scientific tools of my Ancestors on how to communicate with, honour and elevate them. By reclaiming my Ancestral heritage and reconnecting with my Ancestors, I now have the knowledge of the real purpose of honouring my Ancestors and how powerfully rewarding that duty is. The Earth Center has also given me the tools to realise and know myself; Ancestral tools that were given to humanity to raise our spiritual qualities and to strive to be better versions of self, tools to reorient self (spiritually, mentally and physically) back home. This journey into self is empowering and rewarding. The spiritual and physical work of the organisation is designed to propel humanity forward to greater heights, to live harmoniously with nature and humankind and to utilise nature's medicine chest for the healing of humanity whilst protecting and preserving our Ancestral legacies. I am forever thankful to Neb Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig for gifting humanity with such an organisation as The Earth Center and thankful for Naba Iritah Shenmira and the other teachers (fellow Initiates) of our Kemetic Philosophical and Spiritual knowledge for continuing the works of Neb Naba. I too am now passing on this knowledge to new Initiates which in turn will strength my knowledge and utilimately my spirituality.
There are many indigenous non-profits or environmental NGOs, but in my experience none of them have as much authenticity, strength in leadership, discipline, organization and knowledge as The Earth Center. Beyond their leaders service to all people being the biggest gift I’ve ever received in life, every single member of this organization lives a life of such integral values it’s beautiful to witness. Their passion for preserving Earth, wisdom and African culture runs through every second of their lives. Beyond their service projects in Western Africa, the work each location does in their local communities are life changing in terms of education & healing work. I am always so impressed with The Earth Center as an organization, community, the projects they work on for the communities in Burkina Faso and Togo, their healing center and their education center. I first handedly saw where the funds raised go in Western Africa and how hard the team works to preserve culture and knowledge. I would say All Earth Center members are incredible revolutionary’s in the indigenous peoples movement and the most trustworthy humans you can find. Words can’t express my gratitude to Naba and every member that learns and serves at the Earth Center. If you want to get involved in taking care of the earth, humanity, and your ancestors - this is an organization that can not be overlooked.
There aren’t any other non-profits undertaking the mission of the Earth Center, when it comes to preserving and promoting Indigenous culture. And only a few can say that they were started by an indigenous healer as a representation and extension of indigenous culture back in traditional Meritah (as it is traditionally known, but we know it as Africa). A lot of organizations have shady business practices and you never know where the money is truly going, or never can see inside the structure of the organization but the Earth Center has a transparent and grass roots structure in which you can actually see the people putting in the work to maintain it every day to keep it flourishing.
The Earth Center of Maanu, Inc. is truly taking on a lofty mission in the world, connecting humanity to their lost ancestral and spiritual roots. The organization is holding extraordinary indigenous spiritual knowledge passed on to initiates by its founder, the late Master Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, through the M’TAM initiation. The other branches of the organization are bringing equally important contributions to humanity’s future. The Ankhkasta Natural Healing branch connects people to traditional healing methods, herbs, and healers; the Firefly Productions branch brings traditional knowledge out in the open through books, articles and other products; and the Projects in Meritah branch has been instrumental in acquiring lands for the preservation of traditional temples and practices in Africa. I continue to be amazed by the multitude of dedicated volunteers helping move this mission forward.
I have so many great things to say about The Earth Center it's hard to know where to begin. I've always considered myself an activist. Not one that does grand gestures but everyday trying to be a good example and assist others. But without really understanding truly the root of problems it's hard to know if my efforts are really on track or if I'm really making an impact. The Earth Center does all of that and so much more. It really showed me how to be able to do just that; to understand the problems, give me the tools to be a better person everyday, and then apply all of that to really bring about change for myself, my community, and the world.
With roots firmly steeped in traditional and indigenous culture, The Earth Center approaches all of the needs of a human being so they can become a better person and thus, be able to really make a difference throughout the world. The Projects in Meritah(Africa), which is a part of what this organization does, directly connects me to ways to help the people in Africa while maintaining their culture. Not imposing a western view with the help given. I really like that. And this is not limited to Africa. The Earth Center helps to maintain and protect traditional culture all over the world. It's the only organization that I've found of its kind that successfully assists an individual with their spiritual growth, while maintaining the original culture of humanity. It's a unique experience. Its made a tremendous impact on my life. The classes are coming from traditional culture going back to the Pharonic times. Old wisdom being used to fix age old and modern problems. That by itself just blew me away. Anyone looking for ways to help make changes in the world in a really big way, I would recommend checking out this organization and even becoming a member. It's really awesome all that I've learned and all today I'm able to give back because of it.
To try to encapsulate the tremendous quality and impact of the Earth Center in a few words is an arduous task. This organization is providing me (and countless others) with the tools and the education necessary to build my life and myself up in a way that I can be proud of- to truly invest in my personal development on the basis of a clean foundation firmly rooted in humanity’s Ancestral culture and traditions. It has been an incredible experience to learn and work along side a strong and vibrant community of people dedicated to their quality and spiritual growth as human beings, and committed to reconnecting back to the principles of nature, and the logics of preservation that our Ancestors lived by. The Earth Center has impacted thousands of people around the world through all that it offers, from traditional healing, to an authentic Kemetic initiation, and many other services. I am honored to be a part of this mission and to work to reclaim the dignity of my roots, so that one day I can pass this on to those who come after me.
It is not often that one can honestly say they have found their life's mission. Before becoming a part of The Earth Center I have had the experience of seeing my parents and friends of my family dedicate themselves to a cause, so the notion was not unfamiliar to me. The remarkable aspect of being a part of this work is experiencing and witnessing the profound impact it has had on myself and others involved. I can say, without equivocation, that it has completely changed my outlook on life; awakening in me the drive to dedicate my self to something that I have benefited so greatly from, such that in so doing I can envision a legacy that stretches far beyond my own lifetime and whatever contributions I've made in preserving and advancing its goal. I can never thank The Earth Center and its founder enough!
It is hard to put in words what this Organization has done for my life and for that I dedicated my life to it. After a decade of volunteering in The Earth Center, it is truly a path to regaining all that we have lost through modernization, colonialism, invasions and the like. As a human being, we must be rooted in where we are coming from in order to make progress. The Earth Center reconnected me to my roots and I am so grateful. If you are seeking to reconnect with your Ancestors, your Ancestral culture, feed your spirit, physically, spiritually or energetically heal yourself and your family, prepare your descendants for the challenges life brings, become a thinker and problem solver, be part of a great community, and so much more, come home to The Earth Center!
