I'm afraid that after *years* of donating to The Cousteau Society, they have seen the last of my money. Something is wrong there; I have donated two years in a row now via Google Checkout, and haven't seen any of the expected membership benefits (including the over-$100 level red watch cap, which I qualified for with my December 2011 donation). No one returns calls to the 800 number or emails to *any* email address, and if you dial any of the office numbers direct (NY, VA), you get a message that the number has been disconnected. What is going on there? I can't say, but I fear that my money has been going into a black hole for the past two years, which is quite sad considering the good work that Captain Cousteau did for so many years.

I have been donating to The Cousteau Society for many years, but they seem to be in some sort of difficulties. A check I sent in early November 2011 wasn't cashed until February 2012, and a recent mailing indicates they temporarily halted any fund-raising solicitations. Sounds like financial difficulties based on their Charity Navigator rating.
