Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, Community Mental Health Centers, Mental Health, Mental Health & Crisis Intervention, Substance Abuse Dependency, Prevention & Treatment

Mission: Our mission is to provide children and families with culturally informed mental health care and complementary support, regardless of ability to pay. The Child and Family Guidance Center (CFGC) offers a continuum of care that includes best practices in trauma-informed mental health treatment, crisis services and family support programs that meet basic and emotional needs. Our multicultural and diverse team of clinicians and care managers are deeply committed to serving families of all backgrounds and particularly in breaking down the barriers that many minorities experience in accessing healthcare. The vision of CFGC is for all children and families to be emotionally and psychologically healthy so that they can reach their maximum potential at home, at school, and in life. CFGC is dedicated to achieving health equity and reducing health disparities for children and families, particularly those who are among the most socially disadvantaged and underserved segments of Fairfield County.

I first started to support CFGC last year as a Ph.D. student/advisor to help with some of their process improvements. I was so moved by their mission and great work in supporting children and families in need in the greater Bridgeport area, that I was honored to become part of their excellent Board of Director's team. Many among us have experienced mental health issues in our families and our children. CFGC's dedication to helping any child and family regardless of ability to pay, is so vitally important that I will do anything I can to help this cause. I know others feel the same way, so we need to spread the word about this great community agency and their vitally important mission.
