Several years ago, I attempted to give money to Carnegie Hall. I consulted Charity Navigator. At that time, the website gave the names and salaries of the 3 highest-paid employees. They were 3 stagehands. They each earned over $300,000 per year. The senior stage hand earned over $400,000. No scenery to move at Carnegie Hall. Some risers, occasionally a piano. These guys have ripped off Carnegie Hall for years, and management is powerless to stop the excesses. A simple picket line, honored by other unions, could shut the hall down. The NY Times has written about this, but no one seems to care. A large percentage of your gift will go to the stagehands. Keep that in mind when you consider a donation.
