Cancer sucks! PERIOD. Today, that majority of families has a member within fighting to overcome. Not only the cancer itself, but the challenges associated with it. Women and young ladies are hit with simple fear and anxiety of losing their hair. It is more a social stigma than anything else. Society has programed us to look our very best, and hair is the key to “looking great!” I write this for a friend. A mentor. My inspiration. A community leader. A cancer survivor and advocate. Mrs. Wilma Mrosek-Richards. As I like to call her, my DUTCH AF friend! She is the HEART and dedication to one of the very first nonprofits that gives women and young girls a simple chance of overcoming the social stigmas! A FREE at NO COST wig!Celebrating over 25 years of giving, every dime raised from local events (think: luncheons, car shows, raffles…) held in Sierra Vista, AZ, (population of less than 55K) goes directly into the purchasing of more wigs. With a solid volunteer base of volunteers serving as far back to the very beginning in 2000, The Butterfly Club has given over 2,600+ wigs out to women, and out of that number close to 92% of the Butterfly Club’s wig recipients are from out of state. 50% on the East coast alone. The numbers are staggering and continue to rise with daily requests. Please hit their webpage and DONATE. It truly makes a difference. Each and every day.Lastly. I wish everyone had an opportunity to meet Wilma. Wilma is the force of kindness and love behind this beautiful mission! As she was quoted by the local newspaper a few years back… “I honestly feel that everyone has a responsibility to give back to the community, and the Butterfly Club is my way of doing that.” And with that, shalom.
