Mission: We are delivering operational excellence in every aspect of our daily work and meet or exceed our commitments to the constituency we serve. Our long term strategy and short term actions are molded by our core values as stated in our application form 1023 used by the irs to grant our non for profit status. The bridgewater sustainable earth foundation operates a thrift store that contributes to the accomplishment of our tax-exempt purpose in a significant way other than through the production of income. Our income is related to our mission and purpose, all of the merchandise which has been received by the organization as gifts or contributions. The objective of our organization is to build capacity and to educate on the issue of recycling in the context of and related to sustainability topics, and promote practical actions we can take today to minimize our contribution to the problem of a wasteful society.
Programs: The thrift store now employs three people for a total of 65 to 75 hours of paid employment a week. Individuals obtain valuable vocational training, economic independence and a measure of community inclusion through this process. We have also created a weaving studio where t-shirts recovered from our thrift store are woven into rag rugs on hand looms and sold to the public. The weaving studio is providing 5 to 10 hours of paid employment a week.
we have partnered with manchester health services to divert clothes from the landfills where they were going before this collaboration. Our volunteers drive to manchester two and three times each week to pick up these clothes and bring them back to bridgewater for processing.
