I have taken 3 online classes with The Barrow Group and I'm already signing up for the fourth one. I would highly recommend it to anybody starting their screenwriting journey. I have also heard great things about their acting and playwriting classes. Great class and great environment, I learned so much and had fun while doing it!

The Barrow Group is the most supportive and nurturing acting school New York City. No matter your level of training the teachers at the Barrow will guide you through a nuts and bolts approach to storytelling that cuts out all of the fat and gets to the human and practical tools to be an effective, engaging and creative artist. Lee Brock has been my teacher for years and besides being such a supportive teacher and mentor she is so direct and simple in her approach to getting the best out of an actor. One direction is all you need from Lee to make your acting soar. If you are an actor get to the Barrow!

I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of The Barrow Group! As a new member I feel completely at home, both with the people I’ve met and the fantastic location (huge studio spaces and a really great lounge area).
I just finished my second class, the Professional Film/TV Acting II with teaching artist Stephen Singer, and I’m so happy with my experience. Stephen is a warm and insightful instructor who gets as excited about the scenes as the actors performing them. The class is structured so everyone is working even if they’re not in the scene: someone will be running camera, another will mark the slate for each take, and then a scripty will be on book for lines and continuity. And for the actors in the scene, we got to do a master shot and then each do our close-ups.
I felt like I was on set every week. My confidence has grown in my on-camera acting and it’s all thanks to Stephen and this class. I highly recommend it.
I found The Barrow Group through the recommendation of dear friends who are superb theater artists. I had left my career in the theater in the mid-1980's for a variety of reasons, and pursued a different profession. When I retired in 2021, I knew I wanted to return to my first love, but I needed a place to get back into shape and work again. The Barrow Group's classes were the perfect answer.
What has been most striking to me is the Barrow Group's approach, clearly set out in Seth Barish's book, "An Actor's Companion." Unique in my experience, and I worked with many great teachers, is the absolute refusal to use shame as a teaching tool. TBG's approach enables each actor to discover a process that frees rather than inhibits. By practicing where and how to place our attention on telling the story of a scene, what emerges- almost in spite of ourselves- is an abundance of spontaneous life that surprises us. In each class I observe colleagues doing beautiful, truthful work. I enthusiastically recommend The Barrow Group.
The Barrow Group is a great community for actors! The support and teaching I have received here is incomparable, don't know what I would do without Seth and Lee!
This is a theater group that supports training and development - in the healthiest most culturally and emotionally sound manner I've ever seen - for young children and teens as well as professional adults. It is a producing theater but so much more than that; it's a foundation of culture in a big city that often boasts of culture but reaches for little more than profit. It's founders, staff and entire community is a precious resource for New York City.
The Barrow Group has become a beautiful, safe artistic home for me. As a student, I always feel encouraged and affirmed by my teachers. The Barrow technique has made my acting more comfortable, more believable, more natural, and I have discovered a great joy and sense of play on stage.

I have learned more about acting in one year at The Barrow Group than I learned in the ten years previous to this. They approach acting - and theater - with a very pragmatic approach that forces great specificity. This specificity leads to great storytelling, and great storytelling makes for powerful theater.
This is a fantastic theatre company. In a supportive, family environment, they have great classes and teachers that teach a really unique acting method-- helpful the actor to be natural and get out of your own way.
