Nonprofit Overview

Mission: We believe that lived experience must inform change. We are leading the change-makers in our community and across the nation to end commercial sexual exploitation (CSE). Our research is used to reduce demand, convict traffickers, and decrease barriers for marginalized populations through evidence-based services. The Avery Center—formerly Free Our Girls—was founded in 2014 to address the gap in direct services for adults experiencing commercial sex trafficking in Northern Colorado and across the United States. We're a dynamic group of survivors, researchers, full-time staff, and volunteers, and there's never a dull moment working on our team. We value independent thought, autonomous self-starters, and anyone excited about making a difference.

As founder of this organization, I am so proud of everything our team has worked to build and overcome over the past eight years. We have grown in size and reputation and it would not have been possible without the dedicated team members who have contributed countless hours to making my vision a reality. To all our board, volunteers, staff, interns, and clients - thank YOU for believing in The Avery Center.

I am currently Board President for The Avery Center. I joined the Board of Directors right before the COVID shut down in March of 2020. In a short time, this dynamic organization has grown and developed professionally, financially and is laser focused on the human trafficking front. Megan Lundstrom, a trafficking survivor, brings her personal and professional stories and skill set to developing this organization with the support of our Board. It's been an amazing experience!
