I've been involved with this organization since 2011. Having had the opportunity to volunteer, I've been able to see up close what a huge impact The Arc has on the IDD individuals that participate in their program and their families, but also the entire IDD community in Texas. Although the Arc serves adults and children with IDD, I've been extremely blessed to see how the weekly, monthly and yearly programs have changed the lives of the adults with IDD. Without these weekly spanish, computer, and exercise classes, monthly dances and picnics, and yearly galas some of these adults would have been stuck at home watching TV everyday, all day, shut off from the community and not making their own friendships. In addition, I've seen the Arc gather up their staff, the advocates that have IDD and some of their family members and take them to state capital each year to petition for their rights as citizens and advocate on behalf of others that live in Texas with similar disabilities. The Arc is simply amazing!
