Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services

Programs: Act administers a pooled special needs trust, individual special needs trusts and compensatory education trusts for children and adults with disabilities. Trusts are administered in accordance with federal and state law for the supplemental needs of beneficiaries beyond basic care and support. Act serves over 100 individual beneficiaries regionally. Act administers trusts that often times are unacceptable, to for profit enterprises, due to small size or challenging circumstances, thus providing services to those with disabilities that are not otherwise available. Act educates individuals and their representatives and caregivers on planning for their financial future with goals of enhancing the daily lives of diabled beneficiaries, securing payments for necessary products or services that may otherwise not be affordable. We protect funds from mismanagement or abuse while maintaining beneficiaries eligible for government services and benefits.

This agency was recommended to me by my attorney handling a special education dispute with my grandson's school. I thought it would be better to have monies put in a trust fund than to haggle with the school directly for the next few years. I have had nothing but problems from the very beginning. first problem was with their fees, I was quoted one fee and they did the switcharoo once the case was settled and funds were to be disbursed. Now I have an issue to their interpretation of the terms of trust and they have no appeal process or nothing in place if you disagree with their denial of services... I dont know if all agencies are like this but I do not believe their interest lies in the protection and benefit of the beneficiary.
