War is Only Half the Story. Six words that are at the heart of the Aftermath Project. We are a non-profit, grant-making organization committed to telling the other half of the story of conflict.
In our five years of granting, we have given more than $250,000 to photographers working world-wide documenting post-conflict issues. Our work has been legitimized by our relationships with partners and funders such as Open Society Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Facing History and Ourselves and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
We have collaborated with Facing History and Ourselves - the nation’s leading developer of high school curriculum on post-conflict and social justice issues – to create photo-based curriculum that addresses aftermath and visual literacy issues, available free to educators world-wide.
We distribute the work of our photographers each year, more than 400 copies of our book, War is Only Half the Story, is distributed pro-bono to every US senator, peace building organizations, journalism and photojournalism programs, museum curators, editors and industry professionals.
Our goal is to continue building a broad and effective cultural conversation about “aftermath issues”.
