Brought an an injured bird. We asked them to please let us know if they were going to euthanize this bird and they could not tell us. We were concerned because the bird is considered an invasive species in Texas. Somehow while in the back out of our sight the bird's leg bone got pushed through the skin by the staff. An angry aggressive female medical professional came out holding the bird up in the air to show the bird to me and asked me, "now what do want me to do?" She refused to give us pain medicine or some level of care so we can go on down the road looking for a vet . She only offered euthanasia as an option. The bird was so damaged that I was left with no option but to let her put the bird to sleep. Called and called to report for more than a year and could not get a return phone call. Eventually went by there on March 8th, 2021 to speak with the management in person. They would not let me in, however the medical tech is still there. Administrator of the facility got back to me after I emailed her and insisted that the event was not as horrible as I thought because birds have no feelings on their legs. Very strange. I have brought many animals here over the years and they euthanized all but one about which I could get information. I feel so guilt for bringing this poor baby here. Do not turn an animal over to these people unless it is healthy and not a member of a species classified as an invasive species. If you want to discuss this, you can call me at 832-769-2164.
Great organization! I brought in a baby bird that was on the ground in my yard, I was even able to check back later to see that the baby bird had been re-released back into the wild!
Ive been volunteering with this great group of wildlife rehabilitators for over three years, and in that time have learned so much about native Texas wildlife and have also become a federally permitted rehabber for songbirds. They are expanding now into the Woodlands area also. There are lots of volunteer opportunities available if you are ready to see Houston's wildlife up close, check them out!
