The Texas Western became my club and layout after building and disassembling four model train layouts at home over the years. I missed camaraderie and knowledge you gained in a club. I searched the DFW area and found the Texas Western. That was nine years ago, and I still find fun and enjoyment at the club. The club has classes that teach everything from the basics of model railroading to the best way to simulate a miniature transportation system. With everything from railran trips to movie night socials, this club has it all. The quality of the layout and model construction is what initially led me to the Texas Western. The museum quality of scenes and faithfulness to prototype operations keeps me a devotee of the Texas Western. Had I know about the club, I would never have built a layout at home.
The club helps to keep the history of Railroads in the Ft Worth area alive with their model depicting various railroads that have operated in the area. When the layout was off of Anglin the scenery was excellent and now they have a new location off of Forrest Hill I know the scenery will be great again. Members are very friendly and willing to discuss or to explain things about the layout.
Texas Western Model Railroad Club is in the rebuilding process after being forced to move from their previous home. This rebuilding process has provided the opportunity to show members of the general public what goes into building a first class model railroad.
The Club encourages youth to get involved in model railroading by sponsoring monthly meetings solely for them.
The Club is currently the monthly meeting place for members of the National Model Railroad Association even if they are not members of the Club. Members of the Club prepare presentations on aspects of model construction, weathering, etc. Others provide historical presentations.
