Mission: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid's mission is to promote the dignity, self-sufficiency, safety and stability of low-income Texans by providing high-quality free civil legal assistance and related educational services. TRLA serves low-income residents throughout 68 counties of South, West, and Central Texas. Our services are organized around seven broad groups: Labor and Employment, Public Benefits, Housing, Family, Economic and Social Justice, Victim Rights, and Individual Rights. TRLA has 45+ practice areas, such as Farm Worker Rights, Disability Rights, Disaster Assistance, Domestic Violence, Mental Health Law, and Veteran’s Benefits. Our screening process is designed to prioritize clients whose problems are life-altering or life-threatening.
Target demographics: low-income Texans and farmworkers across several Southern states
Direct beneficiaries per year: 38,859 clients to close their cases, and thousands of others with legal education or referrals.
Geographic areas served: 68 counties in Texas from El Paso to the Gulf and down to the border
