I will bot recommend or use tigr in dallas ever. They have no communication skills. I waited over 3 weeks after i filled out the application form to only here nothing. I had to get a friend from the rescue in houston to get the only information i got. It was the dog i was interested in was adopt, which great. They could of said something sooner, i could been looking this whole time. We as in all the volunteers, which i am one nees to look into why this part of the rescue is so poorly run and take appropriate actions. If you have any questions please feel free to contact in anyway
We have 3 Italian greyhounds that all came through this rescue. The care that is given these rescues before they even begin to find homes is excellent. The process of screening our family as a fit for our first one was involved and thorough. The rescue knew our family dynamic and checked our yard and home for safety and comfort. We got our perfect match when we adopted Ricky Ricardo!
Over the last 3 years, we now volunteer and foster for this amazing rescue. We foster a sweet mill dog, Annetta, and have foster failed our sweet boy, Truman, that was on the streets and rescued by Texas Italian Greyhounds. We feel like this is the most caring and conscientious rescue for sight hounds.

My husband and I got involved with TIGR 5 years ago when we adopted our second iggy, Ricky Ricardo. The process and great concern for the home checks made us realize how much they care about their dogs. We have since fostered two more iggys because we believe in this organization and know it’s the best run, and most loving, rescue for Italian Greyhounds.
Our family loves this non profit! Our sweet IGGY Lucky was rescued by TIGR and now is a family member! If you get the chance to donate to or adopt from this non profit you will not be sorry!

"Lucky" is the fifth member of our family. He was found on the streets of Dallas. We adopted him from TIGR-Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue in August 2011. We knew instantly that he was a perfect fit for our family. After discussing adoption with his foster mom Gina, a house visit and the a-ok from the president of TiGR Robin... he was ours. The volunteers at this organization work many hours saving IGGY's from shelters and taking them off the streets. I can't say enough great things about this organization and all the dogs they have saved to become new family members. There is no monetary pay for the volunteers of TIGR....just lots of tail wags, head tilts and kisses from the dogs. This is a wonderful organization that I will always support in the years to come. ~Jennifer
We have adopted 6 Italians from TIGR since 2004. They couldn’t be more wonderful. They do everything in their power to help these precious dogs, and we couldn’t be happier with the babies we have had. They are an amazing group of people. Bless them!!

A year-and-a-half ago I adopted the most handsome, smartest, well cared for, healthy whippet named Greyson. Apparently his foster trained him some basic commands which really helped in getting him settled in my home. I really appreciate knowing this rescue really scrutinizes future homes for the dogs they have ready for adoption, including home visits, vet checks and references. I named him Giovanni and he has been a perfect fit and a pack member with my three Italian Greyhounds!
I have fostered and adopted several dogs from TIGR over many years. They are the best!! They make sure the pup is a good fit with your family . They are easy to work with and loves all of the animals. If you are wanting an Italian Greyhound, Whippet or Lurcher, this is the place to go.
I have been a foster parent with TIGR for several years, and have seen first hand their devotion and commitment to placing IGs into loving homes. TIGR takes on many difficult cases, but ensures that each animal is placed into a foster home that can meet his own unique needs, ultimately leading to successful adoptions. The organization is very well-run, and the leaders of the group are very knowledgeable about the breed’s specific needs and quirks. I would strongly recommend this group to anyone who is considering adopting.
I have adopted and provided a foster home for.this amazing rescue. They provide excellent medical care and make sure they have foster homes to evaluate and help with social skills to aid in finding their forever homes. They are thorough in their evaluation of potential homes to insure a forever placement.

I have adopted and fostered for TIGR for about 6 years. My first experience was when we adopted Riley and I was so impressed with their honesty about this breed, the good and the bad. They gave us as much backgroup as was known about Riley. We adopted again in 2011 and could not be happier with both of our boys. TIGR makes sure that are fully vetted and have fully recovered from any injuries or health issues, before they are placed for adoption. I have fostered and currently have a foster in my care. They carefully screen each applicant whether they are fostering or adopting and make home visits.

Thank you! Couldn't do it w/o our volunteers!
We have adopted several dogs from TIGR and have fostered and volunteered for over 10 years. Great group that will help with finding the right home for fosters. And will always help with issues.

This is just one story of how TIGR helps...
Sage was born in custody after a puppy mill raid. One of her litter died before rescue could get them. And one died a few months ago from liver failure. Sage and her surviving sister will be three soon, but both have low liver functions.
This puppy mill was selling "AKC" pure bred puppies. Keeping them in crates, stacked one on top of another inside a metal storage building in a warehouse district.
When someone wanted to buy one of his puppies, he'd go to storage to get it, clean it up and take it home and pretend that was how it was raised.
TIGR worked with other rescue groups to save the IGs and place them in loving forever homes. We were lucky enough to adopt Sage and is she the sweetest girl!
Opt to Adopt, not buy...
I had heard good things about this rescue and was aware of them well before tragedy struck my household when my beloved heart dog was killed. Both my other rescue iggy and I were devastated. I knew we would need to bring home a very specific kind of dog, and within a week of our loss, she showed up on TIGR. I felt like my chances were so slim, as I lived out of state and knew there would be high demand for this beauty, but I also knew that we needed her. I turned in my application and began the process. Everyone I came into contact with was so thorough and informative and I could tell that there is so much love for the dogs that come into the rescue. I learned a lot in the adoption process and made some new friends along the way. The woman who was fostering my soon to be new dog did an amazing job of socializing her and getting me ready to bring her back across state lines to my house. She fit in immediately. Fast forward three months, and my other dog is a new man. He loves his new baby and she has really brought him out of his shell. She made my house feel like a home again and we are so grateful each day. I would recommend TIGR very strongly.
I cannot tell you how extremely grateful we are to TIGR. We have adopted three dogs from them over the past two years. Anytime that I have needed guidance, as an owner, the rescue has provided me excellent advice and guidance from more seasoned Italian Greyhound owners. Over the past several years, I have seen the passion all of the volunteers have in order to make sure dogs are placed with the right furever home.

After we lost our beloved Italian Greyhound (IG) Lady, my husband and I looked to adopt another IG. We checked out local IG rescues and went to a TIGR meet and greet. There we met the two IGs that we have now adopted, Abby and Arnie. Their foster parents were fantastic and gave us in depth information regarding each dog. We put in our application, had a phone interview, and a home visit. After that we were approved for adoption. What I truly love about TIGR is that they want to place the right IG with their forever home. They do not sugar coat information regarding the dogs and their habits. I appreciate that because you know what needs the dog has before entering your home. We are still in contact with the foster parents. I would truly adopt from them again and I highly recommend using them to adopt an IG.

This organization is run by volunteers who take rescue to an art form.
Not only do they rescue the dogs, but they are always available for doctor references, trouble shooting, and support.
I have just finalized the adoption of my sixth (6th) Iggy from this group so, I have had quite a bit of experience with them in the last fifteen (15) years.
I could never say enough positive things.
This is the most amazing rescue organization ever! My parents got two senior Italian greyhounds from them several years ago. When my husband and I decided to get a dog, we immediately went to one of TIGR’s meet at greets and fell in love with Bentley. Their adoption process was easy to navigate, and were thorough in making sure the dog and adopter are the right fit. The amount of love and passion this group has is something you can’t find anywhere else.
We’ve supported TIGR for years but when a little pup crossed the website, I lost my heart and Annie became my heart dog. We have seen lots of rescues from all types of situations come through TIGR and they are all treated with kindness and respect and placed in the perfect home!
We adopted the newest member of our family, Cora, from TIGR a little over 3 months ago. They were wonderful in helping us through the process, making sure we were prepared, and that we were a good fit for Cora, and she for us. Connie was her foster mom and the one who helped us through the adoption process. She was great and continues to be a wonderful resource. We are so happy Cora has joined our home, and she has blossomed after being rescued by TIGR and becoming part of our family. I encourage anyone thinking about adopting through this organization to give them a try.
I got my first Italian greyhound over 10 yrs ago. A friend said I should go to the dog park. I did. There I met someone involved in Iggy rescue. and the rest is history. I started fostering, making collars and coats, transporting, evaluating, and bringing the most amazing dogs into rescue. Then finding wonderful homes for those I fostered. Some were destined to stay in my care. Love this breed. Love this rescue. They are what rescue is all about.
Robin and the TIGR team are incredible. They take perfect care of their Iggies, providing them with excellent medical care and foster homes filled with great amounts of love!!!
They are truly dedicated to finding the best homes for their dogs and I feel honored to be part of the TIGR family.
I got my Charlie Bear from TIGR when he was 3. He just turned 8 and he’s made my world a better place.
Please checkout this wonderful rescue whether you are looking to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate. I highly recommend TIGR!!!
Texas Italian greyhound rescue is awesome! I am so glad we decided to go through them to get our second iggy Simon. He has been the best addition to our family and we couldn’t had done it without them! Everyone was so nice, helpful & welcoming when I got to Texas. It felt right
We adopted several sweet dogs from TIGR and are very appreciative of everything they do. The network of foster families and caring people in this organization are truly special.
I adopted my Iggy from TXIGR and have never been happier. Atticus is the best of dogs and my best friend. TXIGR made the process easy. I met Atticus at a meet and greet held by TXIGR and instantly bonded with Atticus, TXIGR recognized the match and worked quickly with us to bring Atticus into my home. It was seamless and the results were perfect. Thanks TXIGR!
We adopted our sweet high, Beppe, from TIGR 8 or 9 yrs ago. He has been such a loving addition to our family such he came come. TIGR was very thorough in their adoption process & is very proactive in their fundraising and community outreach events. Wonderful group of people with great big hearts!
The Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue is an is an awesome group of compassionate and caring volunteers. We got Bennie as a puppy and he has been with us for 10 months. He got the best start in life that any puppy could ever hope for. He has brought us so much joy and happiness. He is such a ray of sunshine! Thank you to Iggy rescue for taking in his mamma and all the Texas 60 from the horrible mill situation that they lived in. These dogs were given the medical treatment and TLC that they so desperately needed and went on to find their forever homes. I will always be greatful to the foster family that made it possible for my family to adopt Bennie. He most definitely our joy boy
We adopted our two beautiful babies, Bella and Beau, through TIGR. We fell in love with this group because of the never-ending heart they have for this breed. Everything is about the well-being of each and every dog – from medical needs to finding a loving forever home. We are delighted to have donated to and volunteered for TIGR!
This is my third rescue to volunteer for and by far at the top of the list. I filled out a foster application when the group was taking in some of the Texas 60 puppy mill italian greyhounds. I had 3 puppy mills ig's of my own over the years and still have one puppy mill survivor who is 14 years old. Was delighted when accepted into this rescue. Was so excited when I got my first foster. I love doing volunteer work in rescue groups and find myself very selective in the groups and have found Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue ( TIGR ) to be a topnotch run organization. Caring, helpful, in charge, taking care of details. Absolutely love the new group that was created just for the Texas 60 it is so heartwarming to follow the journeys of all the pups and compare the likenesses of each dog and also get some much needed guidance along the way. The volunteers that I have had the pleasure of speaking with are wonderful, sweet, kindhearted, caring and loving all the fine qualities it takes to be a foster. I enjoy being in this group and helping in any way I can, as well as fostering these wonderful sweet pups.
Robin has been a life saver a few times. Even though i got my iggy from a different rescue robin hasnt treated me any different. Has always been there for any question or concern i have had. My CJ is almost 17 and im so happy shes had a great life
We have adopted 4 Italian greyhounds and a Saluki thru this group. Robin runs one of the best rescue groups anywhere. She has been there for us always. She was even instrumental in finding our Silken Windhound when he got out. The Best Of The Best !
I found Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue online and then "Liked" their Facebook page. I'm not able to adopt right now only because I live in Canada and Texas is a long ways away but I have donated what I can. I would love to adopt all of the babes as Iggies are my absolute favourite. My hope is that some day I will be able to drive down and give one of their babes a fabulous forever home.
TIGR will go above and beyond for be of service for you and your Iggy..
When my Bella needed a blood transfusion, Robin Tula stepped in, found a clinic, found a blood donor, made the appointment, and all other arrangements. It was a terrible time, but Robin did all the leg work. All we had to do was show up. (Bella is doing exceptionally well and is an absolute delight).
In addition, you can phone anyone in the group for questsions/brainstorming.
Wonderful!
This rescue organization is by far one of the most dedicated and caring group of individuals I have ever come across. They work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of the dogs. I have been a supporter (and adopter) for several years and I can't say enough good things about them. Thank you for all you do!
We have adopted two Italian Greyhounds through TIGR and fostered several others. This group cares about the dogs so much and works very hard to place them in just the right home.
This group does amazing work in helping Italian greyhounds in need. Whether they have been abused or abandoned, this group will foster them, help them heal, and teach them what love feels like.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to become involved with the Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue (TIGR) after our own wonderful “Iggy” came into our lives a few years ago and, since then, I’ve been both impressed and deeply moved by the work TIGR does. The care, love and dedication that TIGR provides is simply amazing – not just to the animals themselves but to those in need of the loving companionship that a dog can give. Through providing rescue, health care and support (physical and emotional), fostering and adoption services, TIGR has given new and amazing lives to hundreds of dogs that would otherwise have continued to be abused, kept in puppy mills, put in shelters or possibly put down. We are incredibly proud to have fostered several dogs as a volunteer with TIGR and have added two wonderful rescues to our family. TIGR’s leadership works tirelessly as a true labor of love and their level of professionalism in how they handle every aspect of the organization is inspiring and would serve as an excellent template for how others might consider developing and operating a truly ‘great non-profit’.
My family and I were very interested in working with TIGR so we went to their meet and greets to get to know their dogs and volunteers. When we were ready to foster dogs, we filled out an application and days later they conducted their home visit. It was done in a very timely manner and we were given all of the information we needed about the dogs we would be fostering. About a week later, we received Katy and Blossom. TIGR has been very helpful by providing heartworm medication, collars, tags, harnesses, aromatherapy pendants, blankets, chews, and food. We are able to contact them very easily by phone or at their monthly meet and greets. The other volunteers offer great advice on how to care for the fosters which has proven to be very helpful. We will definitely continue working with them in the future and would love to foster more dogs.
We have adopted three IGs from Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue. They care so much about their dogs and do a very thorough check into the adoptive family to ensure the dog has a truly great home and a great fit! TIGR has changed our lives for the better! They have taken IGs from hoarder situations and will love, care and patience, turn their lives around, show them love and care. I can't say enough about this amazing organization!

I fell in love with Dasher after viewing his photo on TIGR's facebook page. I already have two Italian Greyhounds and his profile said he needed a special diet....I decided to write about him, I just couldn't stop thinking about him. I emailed and a few days later Dasher's foster mom called me and we talked for about an hour! She is so nice and asked all the questions I expected, and shared her history with Dasher. When i went to meet Dasher for the first time, I felt like we were old friends (his foster mom and I). Dasher was great, adorable and everything I had expected! We decided to meet for another home visit and leave Dasher if all went well with our other dogs. A month later I was so excited, we live 2.5 hours away, and TIGR's foster spent the day driving to make sure my home was safe and a good environment for Dasher. i can't say enough about TIGR! I love how they make sure these sweet babies will be cared for and find a forever home for them. I plan on always adopting through TIGR, it has been such a wonderful experience! I hope to one day foster, but id love to be home full time for that. Dasher may not have made it if it weren't for TIGR and his foster parents, I am eternally grateful! He is a wonderful little guy and we are so in love with him!!!

Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue- (TIGR)this non profit works tirelessly to rescue Italian Greyhounds and other greyhounds. They foster rescue dogs and are always placing them in loving homes. The dogs that are rescued require assistance that is very costly. Donations are always welcome and needed. We found our additional family member five years ago. Lucky ( pictured below) is such a good boy and was fortunate to be found by TIGR. Any assistance given to this non profit would be greatly appreciated.
I love this group for several reasons. They take in all sorts of sighthounds into this Italian Greyhound Rescue. Robin and her crew do everything possible to take care of hounds in need from all over the place.

Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue, more commonly known as TIGR intakes IG's that need to be rescued from horrific hoarder conditions, strays, owner releases and many other facets of life. They have the dogs vetted so they can begin the rehabilitation process by providing them with love, shelter and new four-legged friends for company. TIGR hold gatherings at local pet friendly businesses to meet potential adopters, answer any questions and give the dogs a chance to meet the public. The goal is to place these rescued dogs into a permanent home that provides them a healthy life full of love. TIGR is an awesome organization that really cares for the dogs. They hold an annual fundraising event in order to earn funds to help cover the cost to care for the current available dogs and continue their work to rescue others.

TIGR 10/15/2016
Thank you!
The great thing about this organization is their primary goal is actually caring for the dogs. Some rescues base their success solely on number of adoptions but TIGR actually cares that the dog is placed in a loving and appropriate home to each individual dog.

Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue, otherwise known as T.I.G.R., has demonstrated to me, through the actions of everyone I've encountered in their vast network of volunteers, that the health, welfare, and psychological well being of every dog they rescue, whether Italian Greyhound or not, are their top priorities and their reason for being. They are tireless advocates who ALWAYS consider the dogs' needs over all else. The dogs they rescue are all lovingly fostered in their large network of family homes rather than placed in kennels, which greatly contributes to their overall well-being and temperament while waiting for permanent homes. T.I.G.R. has gained a strong, well deserved reputation across many states over the years, from Texas to Florida and to California, and I applaud and greatly admire them for what they do.

We have adopted 3 of our Italian Greyhounds from TIGR. I LOVE that they put the dogs needs above everything else and really strive to match a family that will best suit the needs of each individual dog. If we want to add another Italian Greyhound to our family we would definitely adopted from this wonderful rescue group again.

I have explained my disappointment with the organization . We traveled to there event , filled out the forms and were able to pay the amount requested. Now retired and lots of time and resources to give a dog a good home. Years ago we worked and traveled a lot, our dog was registered with a vet but was not taken as much as the group liked. We explained that the dog traveled with us and we took him when needed were we were. For 15 years Max was happy and healthy. I am so disappointed with the inability to judge people as individuals and not so black and white. So if anyone else try's to adopt make sure you have the perfect past they expect.

TIGR 03/21/2016
We are sorry for your disappointment, however every organization has a set of guidelines that are followed. Unfortunately there are circumstances that prevent applications from continuing to be processed if the information that was asked is not provided.
I got my dog Elvis through TIGR. His mom was found roaming the streets. TIGR took her in and thre days later she had four puppies. TIGR took care of mom and pups. They found homes for all the pups and I was lucky to get Elvis. They interviewed us and came to our home. They talked to us about the breed to make sure we were as prepared as possible. Elvis had a good transition and fit in immediately. He is still in contact with his foster mommy and gets to go there when we go one vacation. When people tell me how cute Elvis is I tell them he is a rescue and to check out TIGRs website for available dogs.

I live in Bossier City, LA and had never heard of this organization before my search for the "perfect" dog. After GREAT research I determined that Italian Greyhounds are the dog for my family. My mother and father both have three rescues and I would not consider adopting anything else. Therefore, I got on the computer and began searching. I looked in my local area and was not getting my phone calls returned, or much of any help. I began to look a little further away and that is when I found TIGR and Lacey. The volunteers at TIGR were so helpful and very thorough. They are extremely committed to making sure that their adopted are placed in forever homes. They even found someone in my city to come do a home inspection. Lacey is everything they said she was. Everything they said was true and are very upfront with their potential clients. Lacey and my family get along better than I even expected!!! We love her so much and I hope and believe that she loves us just as much. Thank-you so much for your service and keep it up!!!

We have adopted multiple furry babies from TIGR and have had great experiences with them. The foster families for these dogs are amazing people who let dogs into their hearts only to see them given over to new, forever homes. The group takes in sick and needy dogs and really works as a community to see that every dog gets the help it needs.

Excellent work done by loving and devoted volunteers. Keep it up tigr!

I live in Fort Worth, TX and about 4 months ago, utilized TIGR to find a loving IG for a companion to me and my surviving IG. This was not a replacement for my previous 14 year old IG (one can never replace the loss of a beloved pet), but a new companion to fill the loss and to provide company for my other 8 year old IG. I had NEVER used a rescue organization and was a little apprehensive. I spoke directly to them (Robin Toula), prior to filling out my application as I found some of the requirements a little overboard. Immediately I was made to feel relaxed about the process and completely understood the reasoning why there were so many requirements. Aft speaking to TIGR, not only did I agree with the requirements, I was thankful for them as well as the rescue group as a whole. I was walked through the process step by step and allowed to fly to Autin, TX to personally meet with the Foster and my sweet baby girl Tessa. Of course it was love at first sight, but I was patient and continued the process to finish my interviews, reference checks, etc. the Foster mom Mary was also very pleasant to deal with. Once I was approved for the adoption, I immediately drove to Austin and picked up my sweet baby girl who was 2 1/2 years old. She has been an absolute joy to care for and has brought so much love back into our lives. Looking back, I would NOT CHANGE a thing! I cherish her and appreciate all that TIGR has done for this breed and would adopt 10 more from them if I could handle the obligation. THANKS TIGR for all you do and allowing me to be a proud parent of this beautiful girl Tessa! Kyni Hartwell, Fort Worth, TX.

I found TIGR after my first Italian Greyhound passed away at 15. I wanted another rescue dog and I had fallen in love with the breed. TIGR is very thorough at vetting all potential adoptive parents. I appreciate that, since I'm well aware that some dog breeds have their special idiosyncracies / charming ways, and iggies are one of those breeds. I needed a specific personality type, since I take them to work as a therapy dog. I studied profiles and attended meet & greets. Robin & TIGR want potential adopters to take their time and find the right match. My friend adopted her dog from a beagle rescue, and they weren't nearly as thorough. My friend ended up with two beagles the day she went to her first meet & greet, one of whom she had to return to the rescue after a month of spending a lot of time and money trying to acclimate the dog to her home.
I am thrilled to say that I recently adopted my new sidekick from TIGR and couldn't be happier with her. I knew it was the right fit, because I spent time talking with the foster mom and Robin, going to meet & greets and visiting with other dogs before making my decision. I had narrowed it down to two dogs and feel certain I made the best choice in the end. She's already stealing hearts in her new role as a therapy dog.
TIGR is a great organization made up of friendly people doing amazing work to see that these little IGs get the life they deserve. The process is thorough, but I respect that, because I know that these site hounds are a special breed that isn't for everyone. Our pets are like our children, even the fostered ones, so I know TIGR wants what's best for them and for the adoptive parents. Each of the foster parents I met seemed to genuinely care about their dogs and want only what's best for them. If they don't feel like you're a good match for their dog, they'll let you know. Who would know the dog's temperament, needs and quirks better than their foster parent?
I wish I could adopt a whole little IG herd, but I'm happy to be able to say that I have one super sweet little IG girl that was well taken care of by her foster parents and has been such a joyful addition to my life in a very short time.

I learned of Italian greyhound rescue almost 5 years ago, I contacted Robin about adoption and submitted my application, after the home visit and verifying my information, I received a phone call from Robin telling me that she had a 4 month old pup that needed a home, I couldn't hold my excitement, of course I already had 2 ig's in my life and I drove to meet Robin and picked up Sebastian, a scared little thing, but he is getting ready to turn 5 next month and he has really changed, he is a very loving and happy little thing, I love him so, I'm so incredibly lucky to have find Texas Italian greyhound rescue. It has definitely changed my life and I am forever grateful. Thank you again Robin for calling me.

On the internet I found a picture of a Italian Greyhound in the care of TX Italian Greyhound Rescue. I fell in love with that sweet face immediately and knew he needed to join our family. Problem - we are in Florida. I contacted TIGR and asked about the pup and the possibility of bringing him home. What immediately impressed me was the lengths they went to making sure that the dog would have a safe and happy home. My neighbors and references were contacted. My vet was contacted. They even had a member of a closer rescue come to my home and do an inspection. His foster mom was kind enough to have extensive and honest phone conversations with me about him and his temperament. Every effort was made on the behalf of this pup to home him securely and permanently. That was a sign of a great rescue group. Once we got the all clear we make the trip to Texas. There was no rush or pressure to take him unless we were sure he was a good fit for our family. He was - and a year later we cannot imagine life with our sweet chunk of chocolate love - Sammy. I would give this organizations the highest possible ratings for the work they do.

I was not too familiar with the Italian Greyhound breed of dog, but a friend that fosters iggys posted a pic of one of his fosters. I knew from the moment I saw Rocket's pic that he was going to be part of my family. TIGR uses a thorough application process as they are very dedicated to making sure that their dogs are placed into the proper homes. I am very impressed with how much they care about the animal's best interests. I highly recommend this animal rescue!

We recently decided to adopt Italian Greyhounds after owning 2 full sized rescue Greyhounds. TIGR was awesome! Robin along with several others associated with TIGR as foster families took the time to answer every one of our questions. TIGR is a great resource and provided everything we needed to adopt. After getting our 2 sweet senior Iggies, the support and help continued. Thank you TIGR for providing us with 2 sweet new blessings for our home.

TIGR 03/21/2016
Thank you adopting Jack and Jill...they had the most wonderful life with you!
We adopted our first Italian Greyhound from a breeder many years ago after being scared away from the breed by another rescue group. Our first IG proved all the horror stories were just that. My husband and I talked regularly about getting a second pup to pal around with our first, but it took several years before our lives had settled enough to take on training a new dog. I found TIGR on Facebook and followed their rescues regularly. The group was so transparent there and clearly committed to helping these dogs and their owners. We eventually saw a posting that required an adoption application. I approached the whole rescue scene with a bit of trepidation because of the previous experience but TIGR was awesome from beginning to end. I think they even fell in love with our first dog a little. We received a frightening diagnosis for her just as all the details were settled for adopting the second pup. The foster home kept caring for him while we nursed our first dog through surgery and recovery. The group posted my questions about nursing a post-op dog back to health on their Facebook page and I quickly felt like I had a whole community helping us and rooting for her recovery. It was priceless assistance at a really difficult time. Sadly, our first IG is no longer with us but our TIGR adoptee is an amazing dog. A perfect fit for us, our home and our hobbies. It might have been due to their encouraging us to come meet him with our first pup in tow so she could help us pick out a match. Or it could have been the group's incredible ability to capture these dogs' spirits in the pics and descriptions they post. These are good people doing good work. I stayed in touch and am lucky enough to have just accepted a foster dog into our home too.

Thank you! Love our volunteers!
I found Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue while trying to find a playmate for my Italian greyhound. The group helped me find two wonderful playmates for her. They turned out to be the best cuddle buddies for her as well. The group doesn't stop at adoption, they also have a community of IG owners that share stories on Facebook. Their play dates have been a lot of fun too! Nothing like seeing a bunch of iggies in one place at the same time.

Thank you!
After my little Sadie passed away, I noticed that my IG mix was really lonely during the day while I was at work. I was also ready for another addition to the family. The first IG I was interested in at TIGR, I was told, was not a good fit for my lifestyle (working mom). Disappointed, I talked to one of the foster Moms about my household and she came to my home for a visit. This foster Mom suggested the perfect Iggy for me. I adopted Lizzie in April 2011 and she has been the perfect sister for Dottie and perfect companion for me. The volunteers at TIGR love and understand their fosters enough to know what is best for them and place them in their perfect forever home. I am very lucky to have found Lizzie, and I wouldn't have found her if it weren't for the great people of TIGR.

Thank you!
Texas Italian Greyhound Rescue is a small group of six people, plus fosters and volunteers, that rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, and an occassional mixed sight hound. The work that this small group does, on a strictly volunteer and dontation funded group is phenominal. My husband and I started off as a foster home and enjoyed the work so much that we devote most of our free time as volunteers. On average we have 5 fosters in our home at one time. IGs are the most amazing companion animals and really lift our spirits on a daily basis.
As a local group of folks (including those in Houston and other Texas towns), I find that they have a dedication and drive to save the Italian Greyhounds that rivals none.
Once you get one of these little guys into your home, you will totally understand why they are so loved.
The hardest part is dealing with one which has been abused or used as breeding stock, locked up all day and night in a cage, averse weather conditions and no human compassion.... it's a wonder they ever come around to loving and trusting someone again.
The sadness we feel in turning over a iggie to a new home is compensated by the fact we gave them a second chance at living and being loved as well as seeing the joy on the face of the new family as they cuddle with their new found addition.
Unfortunately in this day and age, our foster homes are not long for being empty, too many owner surrenders due to family or financial issues keeps us busy.
