You look into those crystal blue eyes, watch the fluid run, feel the floofy fur, and then you are nuzzled. And you're hooked. Huskies will always be at the top of your list. TXHR is a husky. although if you are in the right light you might see some suspiciously human-looking arms and legs. The leadership smartly guides the difficult work of rescuing huskies who need help in finding their forever. They don't shy away from those who need physical help and healing to be able to do forever and raising money to care for them is daunting. Enter the creative problem solving ability of a husky and ways are found to pay the bills. The husky needs life-saving immediate care and a fine-tuned creature swiftly arrives and administers care and love with the power of the pack. The volunteers help with rescue and then settle into the long-haul pace, providing fostering for safety, training, good food and love to prepare the soon-beautiful, healed creature for forever. And along the path of this formidable, critical work, the husky soul of quirky, fun and sometimes silly antics surfaces and the pack celebrates. And you hear the names of the forever cherished individuals who have become a part of this remarkable pack. And you are grateful.
Texas Husky Rescue does phenomenal rescue work, and has very dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to save more huskies! I’ve volunteered with the organization for almost 13 years, and it is truly a labor of love! The volunteers host adoption events, pull dos from shelters, meet with potential adopters to find great forever homes for the dogs, transport dogs all over Texas, medically vet the dogs to ensure they are healthy, support our social media outreach and so much more! This is a top notch, gold star organization!!
My family has adopted two huskies from Texas Husky Rescue. Both girls have been for my younger son as his older brother already had a husky. Our first adoption was great. They care and concern that TXHR and its volunteers give to the huskies is beyong everything you could imagine. They want to make sure the dogs are put in the best homes and loved and cared for. When our first girl got sick with cancer everyone rallied around us to support us in our pain. She ended up living a great life for 15 months after diagnosis. When she died everyone grieved with us. They also celebrated with us when my son decided to adopt a new girl several months later. She is his best friend and they love eachother. We cannot imagine our lives without the huskies that TXHR has allowed us to have. I'm also a volunteer who helps with vet checks and landlord checks and a donor as we live far away and can no longer foster dogs.
TXHR is amazing. I adopted my first dog and was so impressed with their process and professionalism in placing the right dogs with the right family. I volunteered to be a foster pup mom and after a month of having my first foster I failed and adopted my second. I could not be more happy with my two fur babies. I am absolutely impressed with the way TXHR represents their cause and the community. I am so privileged to be a part of this family.
TxHR is a fabulous organization. I rescued my 3rd husky from them in 2021. I put in my application with TxHR for a dog and listed the ones I was interested in. After the interview they matched me with a dog I didn't even know about. She is the PERFECT dog for me. I could not have imagined a better fit. Then I started to volunteer for them. I fostered my first dog with them. It took a little time, but they found him the perfect family! It was so worth the wait! It could not have been a more satisfying and heart-warming experience. This is truly a great organization making a difference and saving lots of great huskies.
When we lived in a Texas, due to the military, we became aware of Texas Husky Rescue. We did some volunteering with them and eventually adopted a puppy from them. Every experience we had was very professional and they clearly put the dogs first. We love our Husky and cannot thank TXHR enough.
This is a great non profit. They help to rescue huskies and husky mixed breeds, get them medical attention, find foster and forever homes. Staffed by volunteers who care about these friendly, funny, loyal and caring dogs. My doggo is Nikita and we adopted her about 6 years ago from THR. A member of our family forever!
Ever since I was a kid I have always wanted an husky. So when we finally adopted, we went through Texas Husky Rescue. When we first met our bonded pair, we knew that we made the right decision.
Because of this, we started volunteering, trying to match others with the wonderful huskies under their care! Couldn’t recommend them enough!
The volunteers that work for this rescue were very helpful in getting answers to all my questions. It is a pleasure talking with them to get solutions that are the best for both, the husky and the people. Huskies are awesome!
I volunteer at TX Husky Rescue - we are asked to do some basic training before we take in a foster. I like the fact that basic tools of behavior recognition are given is because there are things I did not know and learned from Texas Husky Rescue because they Care!
My exposure to Texas Husky Rescue began when we decided to test the waters with a husky by fostering Koala. The rescue provided food, a crate and paid for any medical services that Koala needed. It wasn’t long before Koala became an important member of the family. When we got the news that there was someone else interested in adopting her, we knew that the time had come to make it official and we filled out the paperwork and Koala became ours. Since then we have adopted two more huskies from Texas Husky Rescue and have always been more than happy with the help they have given. Questions were answered quickly and any help that we needed with the dogs was given promptly. Below you’ll see a picture of Koala and Zoey, THR alums! Thanks Texas Husky Rescue!
I became aware of Texas Husky Rescue in 2014 when they were having an event in San Antonio. We were looking for a dog, and a Siberian husky seemed to be right for our family. We fostered a dog for them, and realized we were just the right kind of parents for this unique breed. The amazing adoption counselors worked with us to make sure we were matched with the right dog! Baltic has been with us since December 2014, and was joined by her foster fail sibling, Nara in 2016.
The Rescue is foster-based, which means they rely on volunteers to take dogs into their homes so we can find out their personalities to match with the forever homes. It takes a huge pack to do intake, keep track of medical, publicize the dogs, and work the applications to ensure our dogs go to good homes the first time. But, when it doesn't work out, they always do what is best for the dog.
The Rescue has done amazingly well since it started in 2009, and I am pleased the day we accidentally found Texas Husky Rescue nine years ago turned into a full-on passion. I am currently a board member, but am just one small part of the success of the rescue, thanks to our amazing fosters, volunteers, and supporters.
