My guide, coaches and staff made it possible for me to not only attend (being here) but filled me with tools and a family-of-choice.
I feel a spark alive in my soul. I've made connections for the first time years. I truly believe I am not alone!

When I came in to attend the retreat at Healing Warrior Hearts, I was very guarded. I almost had myself talked out of it.
Sam from Texas for Heroes made this happen for me on the short notice of three days. And it was the best thing that could have happened to me!
It challenged me and made me feel uncomfortable. But in a good way.
It pushed me out of my shell. My heart no longer feels heavy or defeated.
I feel understood.
And with the skills I learned here, I know I can now navigate through life with a better understanding and a healthy way to manage my emotions.
This organization has been outstanding!
I personally have never experienced a breakthrough of mind, body and spirit. For example, I was bogged down with pain from my childhood that I couldn't expand my life into the goals I had set for myself in the past.
I have experienced that breakthrough! I have been completely set free by the methods they use to liberate military men and women emotionally.
There isn't a better organization that I have had the privilege of ever attending.
Therefore, I want to say Thank You to all those who support this cause with donations making participation free to veterans!
After more than 20 years of military service and suppressing many emotions over events and circumstances that I faced in and out of the military, I knew I needed help to live a life that was not full of isolation, fear, depression, and anxiety.
I went to many therapy appointments and it was always the same with inconsistent results.
I found out about Healing Warrior Hearts that works with Texas for Heroes and I deicided to attend. I had heard great things about the program that had changed lives. So I decided to give it a try.
The program was well written and administered. On the 2nd day of the 3 day program, I knew that my outlook on my future had changed for the better. I saw joy and felt a new me. I can honestly say that I saw and felt transformation and hope unfolding for me and the other participants.
If you are on the fence about attending or supporting this organization, get off and attend a retreat or donate!
I can't speak enough about the experience I encountered during the weekend with the Healing Wariors Retreat. I was reluctant about participating but totally enamered by the encouragement, joy and peace I left with. I was so broken and realize I still have many steps ahead to be exactly where I would like to be but I left with pride and confidence in the tools I learned about and the strenght I have within my inner self . I also have a newfound family to help me when I feel I have fallen backwards and to keep me striving for my goals and road to success.
Attend the Couples weekend. WOW. I say it again The staff was remarkable as was the weekend. Amazing healing through revealing. Then moving on. Excellent, most excellent encouragement and growth opportunity.

Volunteering in the Healing Warrior Hearts (HWH) trauma recovery retreats sponsored by Texas For Heroes has been a life-changing experience for me as a Veteran. It's very rewarding to work together as volunteer staff members to ensure that the moment Veterans arrive, they feel like they are in a safe space where they can finally share the invisible wounds of service. As volunteers, it's an honor to witness their story by listening with empathy and without judgment, helping them feel truly seen and heard.
The support obtained by Texas For Heroes from the community is evident through the delicious meals and comfortable accommodations provided at no cost to us veterans. Knowing that there are people out there who value our sacrifice enough to fund these retreats means the world to me as a fellow Veteran volunteer.
I've witnessed many Veterans gain invaluable emotional well-being tools and start transforming their PTSD into Post Traumatic Growth through the Healing Warrior Hearts Retreats. I continually hear from fellow Veterans at the HWH retreats that they too found pride in their service again and and are so grateful to become part of a supportive community that understands the unique challenges we face. The camaraderie and healing I've experienced and witnessed here is unmatched, and I am grateful for the opportunity to heal and grow with fellow veterans. Texas For Heroes has truly helped me reclaim my life by creating opportunities of meaningful service for me as a retired Marine. I was invited to be a volunteer staff member for Texas for Heroes based on my experience and training with Healing Warrior Hearts in Milwaukee. I found their trauma recovery retreats to be very welcoming, inclusive and affective for the healing the Veterans were looking for and the volunteer staff! They have an exceptional leadership team that is supportive, growing and professional! I'm also impressed with the supportive community they're building as many of the Veterans return to volunteer and continue their healing journey together! I'm really excited that they've found Great Nonprofits to promote their service to Veterans! The support from the community is very encouraging as well with the Katy VFW donating meeting space, local restaurants donating meals, Schmidt Funeral Home of Katy donating airport transportation, and other local businesses offering significant discounts to support the healing of the Veterans. They have a great relationship with the Comfort Suites so non-local volunteers and Veteran Participants are well taken care of and ready for each day of the retreat! I continue to travel from WI to TX as a Volunteer Instructor to continue my healing and support the healing of fellow Veterans and volunteers participating in the trauma recovery retreats offered by Texas for Heroes. I'm honored to be part of this service to Veterans that literally saves lives and enables Veterans to experience Post Traumatic Growth and break out of PTSD!
I was honored to be asked to be a volunteer at Texas for Heroes in Katy Texas last month. My father and brother-in-law were and are veterans. I was asked to deliver the meals to meetings each day and the experience was very positive, and the weekend was very uplifting. The spirits at the open graduation of everyone was special and so rewarding to witness. I am very thankful to have played a small part of this astonishing event. I would absolutely volunteer in the future to help in any way possible.

I staffed a Healing Warrior Hearts / Texas for Heroes weekend and was impressed and moved by the focus, compassion, and authenticity of the organization and the participants. What more nobler cause than to make a difference in the lives of the men and women who so generously served our country.
I recommend this experience for those who are lost. I recommend it for those who want support and community. And I recommend it for those, like me, who respect and honor and want to give something meaningful back to these men and women.
I have volunteered at the weekend retreats with Texas For Heroes twice. It was an extremely moving experience for me as a civilian to witness the stories of these honorable service members. Watching the participants demeanor transform over the course of the program from hopelessness, loneliness, and anguish, and then see them smile, share hugs, and laugh together really illustrates the impact that the retreat can have for these individuals and their families. I would 100% recommend this weekend program to every vet that is trying to cope with their own invisible wounds. The work that Texas For Heroes is doing is both a privilege and a duty.
What a fantastic experience. As a civilian, it was a pleasure to be present for and support Vets who have come back from serving our country and fighting for me and my rights.
This program is amazing. I wholeheartedly support if for civilians and Vets.

Volunteering with this organization for almost 7 years now. The magic that happens at our weekend retreats in undeniable! As a participant of the weekend first, it truly changed my life. The leaders and the all volunteer staff of the weekend became a chosen family. There isn’t one person within the organization that will not be there for you. Whether you are having a rough time or want someone to celebrate your wins! We love it all.
When I went to the retreat it was the weekend, I had decided that if this didn't work I would commit suicide. Well, I am still here and so happy I did not commit suicide, because I would have missed the birth of my granddaughter

I’m an Afghanistan vet who had a heavy heart about my service. I had an emotional weekend, and a quick google search led me to Texas for heroes, the timing could not have worked out better and I attended a retreat the next weekend. All of the staff welcomed me with open arms and helped me through the entire weekend. I cannot describe the experience with words except a guided miracle. I walked out smiling and with an emotional tool bag to help identify and deal with tough emotions. The guided healing felt personal to me and has helped me immensely. This group of people volunteering their time to help their fellow human being has restored my faith that humanity has not completely lost their way. Being with like minded and familiar feeling people this group has set the bar for assisting in the rehabilitation of Veterans with varying traumas.
