Our forever dog Taz
Two years ago this month (November), Cyndy Thompson approached my husband and I to see if we would be interested in adopting a Chihuahua. Initially, we had some reservations about it, but thankfully, Cyndy opened our eyes to the enjoyment we were missing.
Cyndy invited us to an open house at a pet store on a Saturday, so I coaxed my husband, Jim, and son, Chris to go visit and see her rescue dogs. There were only two on that day, Taz and Ellie Mae. I was drawn to Ellie Mae as she was super cute but my husband and son agreed “she looked too small and frail” so, we were drawn to Taz. He was very friendly and did not bark once while we were there. We went home later and had a discussion….Chris and I really liked Taz and thought it would be great to have him in our home. Jim finally gave in and we adopted Taz and haven’t looked back! These two years have been great with him….he is the funniest and happiest dog we could ever have come to know. He loves to bark a lot (even when the doorbell ringing or door knocking comes on TV!!) and he loves to sleep a lot too. He will even give you lots of kisses!. He gets along fairly well with our 2 cats although they have taken their time getting used to him. He loves to go on long walks AND loves to EAT!!! Sometimes he will beg for the scraps on our plates so we always have some dog bones or treats to take his mind (and nose) off that. Taz is an amazing addition to our family. And, oh, by the way, Ellie Mae was adopted by a good friend of mine and she is truly loved. I love happy endings!!!!
Thank you Cyndy for your great work and bringing homeless dogs to good warm homes and families too!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization. The volunteers were very supportive and answered all of our questions and concerns . The pick up in Buffalo was very organized and all the paperwork was in order to bring our little guy across the border without any problems. Thank you so much Texas Chihuahua Rescue for making our family complete and for all the love and hard work you dedicate!
I cannot say enough about this wonderful organization. Catherine in Texas and Cyndy in Ontario went out of their way to make sure my adoption of Moonshine went smoothly.
Any questions I had were answered immediately and with total honesty. It was obvious that they were well trained in locating the right dogs with the right homes. These people work tirelessly to find a loving home for these beautiful dogs and if you are looking for a smaller dog you will not be disappointed adopting through this organization and you will have helped in the process of saving wonderful dogs from not so wonderful fates. My hat goes off to you ladies. All the best, Shawn Troyer Newmarket Ontario Canada
Our adoption of mickey could not have been more perfect. The application process was excellent. All the volunteers are lovely. The preparation was so exciting and adoption day was the best experience ever.
Our description of mickey said he was the happiest boy in the world. That was so true. Mickey is absolutely perfect in every way. We will be forever thankful to this organization for this opportunity to save not one life but 2.
Please consider adopting or donating.
I am so thankful to have found this wonderful and amazing rescue! They go above and beyond to find the right homes for these fur babies! They take great care along with the foster Moms who treat these babies as if they were their own! They get to know the ones they rescue before they go up for adoption.
I lost my girl in August of 2017 and my life changed in an instant. A piece of me died when she was killed by a hit and run and passed in my arms. I realized the only way to get out of my depression was to rescue another. Reading about the disasters and too many dogs in Texas, I came across this rescue on Facebook! I found Monet on here I knew she had to be mine. They sent extra pictures and videos of her Which were awesome to do! I then came across Amaretto and decided to adopt her as well. I was so very excited to be able to rescue these two babies! Unfortunately something had happened to me and I asked a question and I lost Monet because of it! I realize how hard everyone works to help these fur babies find homes. I wish with all my heart that they would tell me that she is able to come after all. If it was only explained when I asked, Monet for SURE would not have lost out being a part of my family.
Anyways, the day of transport was such an exciting day. I couldn't wait to meet Amaretto! When I saw her she came into my lap and licked away with her wagging tail! She met my boyfriend and his 2 puppy Shepherds ( which thought she was a live toy), his older Shepherd , my kids and my other pets and they all get along great! It was instant love for us all! Her past is her past she has left that behind to enjoy and be loved in the future! She is an absolute treasure in all that she does and loves to sleep under the covers beside me with Tabo! :0) I can't wait for her to see the snow even though she does NOT like the cold now! lol People ask how can you decide based on a photo. I say, its that and their story too and you get more satisfaction from adopting because you truly save a life! Most of these dogs never felt love, a warm home, food in a bowl and for them to be able to express love from where they came from is truly amazing! My dogs are my world, they thank me every day for giving them a permanent home and I thank them back for rescuing me!
THANK YOU TXCR ! Highly recommend!
Texas chihuahua rescue has been incredible! They help you throughout the entire adopting process and make sure everything is smooth sailing. You can tell they genuinely love and take care of their rescues. I adopted my sweet cyan a couple of days ago - my first puppy ever. She's an absolute doll. Thank you guys for everything!
Thanks to this wonderful rescue group, hundreds of dogs are being saved from certain euthanasia for no other reason than being unwanted or abandoned. My little Peggy Sue was one of them. To think that such a happy, healthy, loving little creature could have ended up dead is mind-boggling... Thankfully, she gets to be a life-loving, bright ray of sunshine everywhere she goes!
I can't say enough about the efforts of TCR. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have our wonderful dog Max!! He has been an amazing addition to our family!!! He was just a few days away of being put down but TCR came in and fostered him. They were told that he was a bit aggressive, the only thing he is aggressive about is how many kisses he wants to give you!!! Who needs a bath!!! WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH amd couldn't be happier!!! THANK YOU TCR, YOU'RE AWESOME!!!
Ellie May came to us with no home of her own. She is a perfect fit to our family. The Chihuahua Rescue were all so helpful and kind. We could not imagine our life without her. Thank you team Canada/Texas Rescue for bringing us together....Lori & Family.
TCR is an amazing organization. I originally intended to just foster Buster but I fell I love with him and adopted him almost 2 years ago. I could not be happier with my decision to keep my boy. He is a wonderful little guy who lifts my spirits every day. Thank you TCR! You do a fantastic service for these little ones!
Our family was looking for a playmate for our one chihuahua - Ref. When we met Mayweather and McGregor who are brothers, we just couldn’t take one! So glad we took them both! We changed their names...as much as we loved their first given names. We have our team - Ref, Coach aka Mayweather and Player aka McGregor. Thank you!!
My husband and I have been looking to adopt a rescued small breed for months. We saw the Texas Chihuahua Group had been bringing dogs to Canada and were excited to have an opportunity to possibly bring a dog to Richmond Hill, Ontario from Texas. Unfortunately the woman I dealt with who said she was in charge of "GTA adoptions" was not very friendly and quite rude on the phone and in her emails. She kept "forgetting" and "misplacing" information that I had already provided to her. It took so long for her to complete my "reference checks" that the dog we had our heart set on was adopted to someone else and she did not seem very apologetic. She did tell me was that this was not her "real" job and she and her husband were just volunteers. Her attitude stunk! The Texas people were very friendly by email and phone, but the Canadian person for the GTA area was rude, unhelpful and gave the impression I was inconveniencing her by asking questions. I was also informed that I was too old to adopt a puppy which I thought was quite rude as to me, she was implying I would die and leave the puppy behind. Of course I would ensure there was a home for our dog with a family member or friendddd if something should happen to my husband and I down the road. What a disappointment. A few months ago we found a sweet pair of young dogs at "The Dog Sanctuary". They had to stay together and we were happy to take them both. "The Dog Sanctuary" treated us like we were angels saving these 2 lovely dogs and did not even ask us how old we were! They processed our application quickly and treated us with the utmost respect the entire process. Our experience was so positive we are now monthly Donors to "The Dog Sanctuary". Ontario has lots of great rescue groups who have their priorities right! I inquired about potentially becoming a monthly donor but the Canadian branch is not a registered charity and can NOT give out tax receipts. Hopefully Texas Chihuahua-Canada smartens up and gets it right but if they don't, there are many alternatives to find your next dog like The Dog Sanctuary!
Texas Chihuahua Rescue has been an absolutely amazing experience! I am so blessed everyday that I got my little girl Sky! TXCR cares about all of there animals tremendously and does a long a thorough check to make sure the animals are paired with the right house. My little girl Sky is deaf so the process was a bit longer than usual which I appreciated a lot. It shows how much the organization truly cares for each pet. Sky had some anxiety before I got her but she is doing absolutely amazing at home with her pug brother Teddy! She is the happiest, most playful and beautiful little girl! Thank you so much TXCR! Every animal deserves love, a home and a new start! Would highly recommend
I cant say enough about the incredible work that they do at Texas Chihuahua Rescue! From the initial application to the final transport of your dog; they are spectacular. You can really tell how they care about the animal and also care for the proper pairing of them with their new owners. I cant recommend enough how wonderful an experience this was, even adopting from NJ!! The hard work that they all put in shows!
We recently adopted Oscar AKA Houston. He has been a bright light that has shown on our family in an unbelievable way. He brightens our day everyday. Our other dog Daisy love's playing with him and enjoys having another dog in the house. Adopting Oscar has been a wonderful experience. He's an easy going sweetheart.
I recently adopted two senior chihuahuas from Texas Chihuahua Rescue.
What I love about them is that they are very thorough in their application, they tell truths about the dogs and their personalities. They answer any and all questions and they follow-up on their adopted dogs.
I didn’t think that I was ready to adopt so soon after my Rottweiler suddenly passed in August but after seeing some of TXCR’s dogs on Facebook, I just had to adopt a couple of them.
Thank you to Texas Chihuahua Rescue for taking such good care of these beautiful dogs that have no voice. Thank you for giving them a chance to be loved.

Adopting a rescue dog takes a great deal of thought. My husband and I had decided that we didn't want another dog after the passing of our beloved Cocker Spaniel. It had been 3 years by the time Coco (named April by the rescue) found me. She had come to Canada for a hopeful adoption and was fostered in my community when her and I met. She was SO cute, I couldn't resist and after taking her home to meet my husband, within 2 days, she was ours and she had found her furever home. Coco had hit the jackpot you could say....we lived in Ontario for 6 months and wintered 6 months in Florida. She would never have to see snow! Life was good and after 9 months, upon having a blood test for her ongoing heartworm meds, she came up positive for heartworm. This was devastating news to us and after speaking with the Texas Chihuahua Rescue representative, they offered to fly her back to Texas to give her the heartworm treatment. Coco spent 10 weeks in Texas and seemed to do ok with her treatment. She came home but upon her return, she just didn't seem right and the folks at Texas Chihuahua Rescue agreed. Coco, very quickly became ill. She starte walking criss crossed, wobbling...signs of ataxia. We took her to a chiropractor and that helped a little we thought. Texas Chihuahua Rescue asked us to get an MRI and helped us with it, along with any other medical bills for hospital stays, etc. The MRI showed us she had Inflammation on the Brain and the protocol would be a steroid medication. Day by day, Coco was feeling better....it has been 4 weeks and she is almost 90% of her old self. She will continue the meds till they tell us to stop and we hope that she will continue to feel well and ward off the neurological problems. There were times on this journey that we were ready to give up...times that we thought she would not make it through, but with the help and loving support from Texas Chihuahua Rescue, we have our little girl back. She is still here for us to love and cuddle because sometimes it is about loving someone else besides yourself. Coco has completed our family and softened our hearts and we can't imagine life without her. This organization is top notch and I can't say enough wonderful things about it and the people that work for the rescue...working hard everyday to save the life's of these little ones. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!
Texas Chihuahua Rescue comprises of many rescuers, volunteers, transporters in Texas and in Hamilton/Toronto, Canada area, like they say "it takes a village to raise a dog". Adopted Alfalfa a little Chihuahua mix who has medical issues. Their response to my questions and application was less than 24 hrs. We spoke , they answered all my questions and many more to ensure that Alfalfa would be a great addition to my family. I completely understand Alfalfa's medical issues when I adopted him and accept him as he is. Alfalfa is a very happy boy who loves to dance and make me laugh. He was transported to Hamilton, Ontario and they found him a fabulous foster until I was able to pick him up and bring him home in Alberta. A fabulous rescue who works hard at saving many lives and finding them the perfect home for their new second chances at life.
This was one of the best decisions of my life! I stumbled upon the Texas Chihuahua rescue on a Monday at work. I have a 10 year old tea cup chihuahua and was always looking to add another addition, however, it had to be a puppy. Within hours of finding the page, I had already submitted a application to adopt Peyton. At 10PM that night, I was contacted and advised she was still available, and would be placed on a hold for me. I paid for her the next day. The worst part was waiting for her!!
I was sent updates throughout the week, along with a guide on what to expect and the process she was going through ( vet check, neutered, her chip and so on).
They were even so kind to send pictures and a short video of all the dogs as they left on transport day !
We arrived in Buffalo at 6:30 AM and within a hour we were on our way home.
This was the EASIEST process I've ever done, and in the end, we saved her little life.
Shes now happy to be at her forever home, where she can now be a puppy!
