I've dealt with charities before, and I have personally known a few of the folks involved. Sue Hillman is the most wonderful of the wonderful...there's just no other way to say it...and her Tess' K9 Rescue & Adoption is, simply put, Doggie Heaven. We now have three of the little fur angels she has rescued and really wish we could have more, because we love them as much as they love us. You haven't yet experienced real love until you are sitting and hurting so badly you are crying and a dog walks slowly to you, looking you straight in the eye, and puts his/her paws up on your leg and blesses you. I have had that happen twice now, with two different pups, and I now know for sure what angels look and feel like.

Every time I look at our two furry angels who were saved for us by Sue Hillman and Tess' K9 Rescue & Adoption, I think how pleased God must be. Sue and people like Diane Dulaney Wallen, who foster so many rescues until they can find a forever home are truly doing God's work. Sir Linus Too and his brother, Spunky Boo are home forever because of them. Thank you, Tess' K9 Rescue...and God bless you!
Rescue is so important and Tess K9 Rescue excell's at what they do Sue,Kim,Jennifer,Jodi Brigette volunteering and dedicating their lives to rescue are a Godsend to all the puppies . I admire and respect all of them . We lost our beautiful Lexi ^ months ago and it has been very tough on her mate and the rest of us . We are adopting a little Chihuahua puppy (Maeve) who's mother was rescued by Tess k9 . So if you are looking to adopt do so i cannot say enough great things about them and the woman who it . Love you ladies
I adopted my boy Archie from TessK9 back in Oct of 2019. He had been left on the streets with his sister and ended up in a kill shelter. Archie has(what I consider adorable) a big underbite and his sister(who also ended up adopted in MA where we are) had a tounge that she could not put in her mouth. Most people easily could have left them and rescued "more desirable" dogs. Tess took them both in and while we will never know Archie and Agnus' story of what may have happened to them prior to Tess, all I know is when I adopted Archie he was 9 months old and he was such a GOOD boy. He was house broken and very social and well mannered. Tess cared for him when no one else would even give him or his sister a second look. I am VERY fortunate to have Archie in my life! The great thing too is eventhough we are miles apart, if I ever have any questions or concerns at all they always make time to talk to me about Archie. While I know what they do can be extremely difficult, they do an amazing job. They continue to help dogs in need but still continue to care for the ones who they have found homes for!! Tess'K9 and ALL of the volunteers are AMAZING and I am so thankful for all they do!!

Hello, my name is Linda and I have adopted four precious dogs from sue. The most wonderful dogs. I have also fostered for her.
Bailey Beagle was my first adoption from Tess K 9 rescue. Then my little Layla the cutest pugle ever born. Then I foster failed my Captain Jack Black beagle and who knows mix and then I adopted my precious Liza Toy. Cocker and dachshund mix. I am looking forward to my next adoption from them. I love this rescue and all the good they do.
I have driven 9 hours to San Antonio and 9 hours back to adopt from Tess’ I have done this twice 7 years apart because the folks at the rescue are so amazing and the pups are even more amazing. I highly recommend them for your next fur babies.
I had the worst, most traumatic experience with them. I had a hard time getting a response from rescues and shelters since putting in applications since October. They were very responsive and I was excited. The staff approved our family to adopt a pet for their next transport event. However, when it went for final approval from the Founder/Director and to work out details on pickup, the director started undermining her staff and employing discriminatory practices and trying to find every excuse not to adopt to us. She was stalking my social media pages, interrogating us, sending me almost a hundred Facebook inbox messages, follow-up phone call and then requested a third phone call to ask more questions. This was all AFTER I paid $425 adoption fee for him. When I mentioned that I was uncomfortable and felt discriminated against she said this was standard practice although none of these additional measures were included as part of the application process. Also, they were not honest about the dog's age and told us we had to get him neutered even though that was supposed to be included with the fees. This rescue is so unorganized and unprofessional!
4 years ago, I was able to adopt my dog through Tess’ K9 Rescue. The people are INCREDIBLE and genuinely care about what they do. Thanks to them, I have my best friend/confidante/guardian angel/soulmate at home with me.
A group of dedicated rescue professionals. We got our pup in February and she just turned 1 year old. A great experience since we live in Connecticut and our girl is from Texas. We plan to adopt another baby soon.
Tess’s K9 is the absolute best!! Stray and abandoned pups in Texas literally don’t stand a chance. The lucky ones end up at Tess’s and given a second chance at life. We’ve had Cooper since Mother’s Day of this year. Tess’s took him in as a stray wondering puppy. Had they not he would have a absolutely ended up dead on the streets or dead in a kill shelter. Cooper has completed our family and is the extremely intelligent and gentle!! Thank-You Tess’s K9❤️
We adopted little Gretchen( now named Holly) as a surprise Christmas gift for my 85 year old mom who had lost her 17 year old poodle a few months before . She is such a sweet little one and gets along great with our 80lb Chesapeake Bay Retriever. This rescue is awesome .
Tess K9 Rescue helped me find my best friend! They really know what they are doing! I put my trust in them and it paid off. My dog Ace is the cutest, sweetest, gentlest, and smartest dog I've ever met. I am so lucky to have found him through this recuse. Jodi answered all of my questions and still follows up with me to this day. This organization truly cares about their rescue dogs and they do everything they can to make sure they go to the right homes. I have recommended this recuse to my family and friends! I am SO thankful for all the volunteers who took care of Ace before I rescued him.
We were lucky enough to adopt our fur baby Hank from Tess’ K9 Rescue back in February. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. They truly care and love every dog that they rescue! The application process was easy to understand and we received a call right away from one of their staff who made sure that we would be a good fit for Hank. While we anxiously awaited Hank’s arrival, we were provided transport updates. Transporting dozens of dogs from Texas to New England is far from an easy task, but it was so nice to know that our dog was being loved and taken care of throughout the journey. After taking our pup home we were added to the Tess’ K9 social media group. It made us feel like we were officially part of the Tess’ K9 family. They are great at answering questions and love seeing their puppies grow/ spend time in their new homes. Tess’ K9 Rescue staff members work tirelessly to give these dogs a great life. We would recommend them to anyone looking for their four legged best friend!
I got both of my dogs from Tess' K9 Rescue ~ they are the best! They worked with me to find the right pup, especially the 2nd time when I was looking for a "therapy dog" for my very timid first adoptee! They helped me pick the perfect dog, who got the first dog to come out of her shell and they are now best puppy friends! I can't imagine my life without them and thanks to Tess', I don't have to!
My family adopted Nala (formally known as Jewel) from Tess K9 about 2.5 weeks ago. The process was exciting, smooth, and comforting. Nala came from TX from one of the amazing helpers but was formally in a euthanized pound. I now have 6 dogs in my life (family and friends) who have been rescued through this organization. They are always attentive, very loving & secure people. I’m so happy to be part of this rescue family
I am proud to say after my daughter rescued from Tess K9 an amazing dog that ended up rescuing her, I also decided to rescue from them knowing the time, care and love they put into each and every dog they foster and rehome. All their dogs have a special story of their own and are fostered in homes not in cages. They take the time to screen the applicants and to answer any questions you might have. I was torn between two and they helped me choose the perfect dog for my home and situation. Their are happy and healthy and just well rounded. I know there are many rescues to choose from but in my honest opinion I believe Tess’ is the best because it’s not a job... it’s a passion and a passion they hold to the highest degree. Happy, healthy and beautiful dogs of all ages.
After my 14 year old gsd precious passed and enough time had went by for myself and my family to grieve. We began looking for another pup. Upon searching I came across this cute little brown and black fur baby named blossom. She seemed ideal for what we were looking for except tessk9 is based in Texas ! After speaking to Kim and company...arrangements were made and I was able to get blossom and we couldn’t have asked for a better more suited pup for our home. Thank you Tessk9!!!
Simply put. A great group of humans doing what they can to save as many dogs as they can. We need more humans like them.
Back in June 2009 my husband surprised us with a puppy he had seen on the Internet. He drove to San Antonio, Texas, from our home in Mount Prospect, Illinois. There he met Sue Hillman from Tess K9 Rescue in San Antonio. They had been communicating about Gina for a while. I was shocked and dismayed to discover he had kept his puppy search a secret from me and had brought Gina home with no discussion. But I looked into baby Gina’s soulful brown eyes and fell in love. I have never had a dog but the love and loyalty I share with sweet Gina is unlike anything I have experienced. Sue Hillman and Tess K9 Rescue in San Antonio performs a much-needed service, saving the lives of so many wonderful dogs that bring joy and love to many families. Everything was handled in a clear, professional manner. We strongly endorse Sue Hillman and Tess K9 Rescue of San Antonio as a responsible, caring, well-organized nonprofit that benefits so many!
I love the people at TESS-K-9!! Have fostered and adopted many times thru them. I am really happy I found Sue because she has made my life so happy with all my babies. They always do everything to help with the adoptions. It's very rewarding to foster and adopt so we can make these babies happy and feel loved otherwise they would be dead without our help. Thank you for all you put into saving lives!!❤❤❤❤
I have fostered 2 dogs for Tess -K9 Rescue and adoption, I foster failed on one, and they do an amazing job. My first foster needed wound care and was just skin and bones. They provided me with all I needed to get that girl back to perfect healthy. They then transported that pup and her friend, they also rescued, to a fantastic home in Wyoming. My second foster was just a young GSD pup, from a shelter that was very high kill. That pup, now named Kairo, came in and filled the void left by my GSD that had died just 2 months prior. I wasn’t going to get another dog, especially so soon, but thanks to this wonder rescue, the perfect pup landed in my lap and he is with me to stay. I am forever grateful and highly recommend adopting from and supporting this fantastic and hard working group. They can always use more fosters too.
I lost my beloved Comet in March of 2019. After 13 and a half years. I deciddd I was ready for a new puppy to fill my house and heart with love. I was parrner with Kim from Tess's K9. She was very helpful amazing person. That helped me thru the process. Sasha will be 5 months on July 1st. She is loveable, friendly. We are in puppy school and she is doing amazing. I wsnt to take a minute and Thank Kim and Tess's K9 rescue for all the do to hive rescue dogs a new life. Matching each dog to the appropriate new family. Thank you
Tess K9 Rescue is an incredible organization that has given us our beloved pup Reggie! Their process to screen applicants and find the right fit of owner to dog is excellent and the care and concern they have for the thousands of dogs they have rescued and found homes for is truly inspiring. They live the work they do and I would recommend them to anyone looking to rescue a dog.
We adopted Captain straight from Texas. We had initially inquired about another dog, but after our phone interview and specific family details were spelled out, Sue Hillman steered us to Captain! We couldn't be happier! He fit into our family within a very short period of time, like he was meant to be ours. The process was smooth from start to finish, which is amazing for an all volunteer organization.
After we lost our last boxer to cancer we were hesitant to get another dog right away but Jodie had helped my daughter find a beautiful pup through this rescue and was on the lookout for a pup that might work with our family! Our dog goes to work with us every day so we needed our new family member to be good with people, other dogs and children and this was so important to us, not being able to meet a new dog in person before the adoption because of the distance involved. The application was long and involved which was wonderful because it asked many questions to make sure we would be matched with a dog that would fit into our home and lifestyle, Sue 'the founder' and I emailed back and forth about a momma boxer they had that had just weaned her puppies and was ready for a new loving home, Sue was so honest about Una and we were so comfortable about her description that we went ahead and adopted her! Sue and her husband transport these amazing dogs up from Texas and keep all the new adopters updated with where they are so they can meet their new pups, the pups all arrived happy and healthy and Sue goes over all the paperwork in detail with you. Una was everything and more that Sue described to us and we could not be more happy with our new family member, Una is a perfect dog who has blended well into our lives at home and at work and we always recommend Tess K9 Rescue & Adoption to friends and anyone else looking to adopt a new friend and we will definitely adopt from them again!
I can not say enough about the Angels who worked tirelessly 24/7 to help these poor animals have a decent start to their very precious lives. We adopted our 1st Rescue with Tess K9 Rescue and it was very smooth and easy transition for this beautiful baby who came all the way from Texas , please help out in some way, Adopt, Rescue or Donate today or as soon as you can they need our help to saves more precious lives.
I’m here to let you know that Tess’s K 9 Rescue and all of the volunteers make a difference in the world of rescue. I adopted my sweet Georgey last spring and then added to my fur-family this past November. Do NOT know where I would be without these sweet babies or Miss Sue! Thank you for all the life-saving work you do!❤️
This is the most amazing rescue that I have ever worked with. I have worked in animal hospitals for most of my adult life (13-21 & 26-29 yo) and I can honestly say that they go above and beyond to make sure that all of the animals in their care are taken care of medically... screened for temperament... and placed in loving forever homes.
My 3 year old mixed breed dog came from them and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The application process was thorough and complete, the follow-up was quick, and I had my fully vaccinated and neutered best friend within weeks. He is truly the most amazing dog I could have ever hoped for. Many people within the rescue stay in touch and you can really see how much they care about all of the animals they tend to. 10/10!
I try to find reputable rescues for dogs in the Laredo shelter. Tess K9 has been a dependable lifesaver for years there and in other shelters. Sue is diligent about and committed to saving lives, and also very knowledgeable about how to nurture and nourish these lives she saves, before finding them loving homes. A Tess K-9 pet will be one that has already known love while in the care of this rescue, a pet ready to join your home and heart.
I have partnered with Tess k9 on many occasions to help rescue animals and find great homes for them. Sue is an incredible supported of rescuing and helping both animals and those who work in rescue. She is very professional and easy to deal with. One of the most dedicated and honest people I have ever met. I would highly recommend her and her rescue to anyone looking to adopt a rescued animal.
We first found this amazing organization in 2011. We adopted litter mates at 11 wks old. They were flown from TX to NY with no problems, complications, or headaches. Sue was nothing but professional, caring, and compassionate.
We met again in 2018. My daughter suffered a near fatal suicide attempt. All doctors, nurses, and therapists suggested an emotional support animal. We chose a small mix baby and picked her up one night in neighboring NJ. Sue refused to accept any money for this baby. I believe Mollie has saved my daughter who suffers from mental illness. Not only has Sue saved hundreds of dogs, she saved my daughter as well. There are not enough words.
Can’t say enough about everyone from Tess’ and their dedication to help placing dogs in their forever homes!!! I have 2 amazing dogs from them and also have several relatives who have gone through them to adopt
This rescue is the best! They worked with me personally to make sure I would be paired with the perfect dog, and thanks to these amazing people o was matched with my furbaby. He is absolutely perfect for me, I can't thank the TessK9 team enough for all their love, patience, dedication and support to both their adopters/fosters and pups!
My husband and I adopted Pumpkin, a German Shepard mixed puppy from Tess K 9 rescue earlier this year. Everyone at Tess K9 was absolutely wonderful to work with. They found our sweet little Pumpkin as a stray in Texas. She was in very bad shape. They took her in & nurtured her back to health. Sue, then transported Pumpkin by car all the way from Texas to Massachusetts where Jodi, another volunteer offered to take her in as a foster and help her find her forever home. That’s when my husband and I met Pumpkin! We fell in love with her instantly. We already had to reduce pups at home and were worried as to how they would take to pumpkin. Jodi was sweet enough to bring pumpkin over to our house for a visit. She spent over an hour with us giving the dogs a chance to get to know one another. We knew then that we were the right family for pumpkin! Jodi was also kind enough to keep pumpkin with her for a few more days while I arranged to take some time off of work and get our house puppy ready again. After the adoption I communicated with Jodi & Sue regularly. They did everything possible to ensure a successful adoption. I am so grateful to all of the amazing people working for Tess k9 who volunteer their time to save pups in need. Our story has a very happy ending and if you rescue with Tess k9 yours will too!
The care and the dedication by this rescue is amazing...
They have become amazing friends and support long after Gunner was added to our family. We love our beautiful boy he's such an amazing part of our family. Thank you for saving our baby... We can't imagine our life/family with out him! Thank you!
Everyone involved in this rescue organization is truly amazing! They not only care for each & every animal, but treat them like their very own.
The volunteers make themselves available to answer anything & everything. We adopted, our sweet Avery, from this rescue. I cannot begin to tell you how much of a great dog she is! That’s all because of the director & her daughter who save these animals from high kill shelters and nurse them back to health.
When receiving Avery from transport, we received all her paperwork from her vet visits prior. She had been treated with every vaccine that was age appropriate for her, deworming, spayed and even microchipped!
This whole group really cares about each and every dog and wants to place them in the best home possible. They are truly a remarkable group, that I cannot began to thank enough!
Tess K9 is a wonderful rescuer organization and because their amazing job and sacrifice a lot dogs are able to find they forever home. After my Teddy crossed the rainbow bridge, Bella my other dog and I was devastated and I thought Bella going to pass too. She missed teddy so much. Bella stopped eating and drinking and just lay down motionless for days, so I decided to adopted another dog. Tess K9 Rescue saved Bella and I. I cannot thank you Tess K9 Rescue enough for have rescued my Molly and had choose me to be Molly mommy. She’s such a wonderful baby and I cannot believe how much Molly and Bella love each other. I am so blessed to have both in my life. I thank you God every day for have Rescue organization like Tess k9 for doing such a wonderful job to give all those babies a lovely home.
This is Anna. She is the most precious little girl in the world. I adopted her from Tess K9 Rescue in August, 2012. The first picture is the day she arrived home. She was sleepy. It was a long ride from Texas to New York!! The second picture was in 2014. The third picture was just taken now! And the fourth picture is of her and our other dog, Ella, running on the beach with my husband, this is a daily occurrence which they both love. As you see she has always been a beautiful blessing to us. This Rescue Group was absolutely amazing. Sue Hillman was an absolute angel getting our baby to us. Please considering sharing your love, home and possible a donation to this amazing group... God bless, Phyllis
My sister in Texas has a Dog Rescue service. We got a Mountain Cur from her and he is the most loveable dog . She takes good care of all the dogs she gets .Many families have been blessed with the dogs they receive from the service. anyone needing a loveable dog for their family or just for themselves should look into her service.
Tess' K9 Rescue saves so many lives of dogs and puppies tossed out on the street and in the area shelters. Sue's daughter also helps with the rescue. I appreciate the fact that she transports dogs out of TX and on to better lives in other states where dogs are valued family pets.
Tess K9 Rescue goes above and beyond to help so many dogs in need and they never shy away from the hard cases. Amazing rescue run by amazing people !
I don’t even know where to start
This rescue is the real deal.
I can’t say enough good things about them.
My first experience with them was when I found three puppies that had been left on street left for dead by a highway in a very small town I had no idea what I was going to do I reached out to so many different shelters including one 20 miles from me no one would help and one of the three puppies was badly injured and fighting for her life thanks to these amazing amazing women they said they would take them and I live over a 100miles away they just took charge and got the baby girl help got her right into the vet and without them she would not be alive today including her two brothers that were thankfully unharmed.
It’s so nice to find a rescue that truly truly just wants to help animals no matter how bad of shape they are in no dog is left behind.
Well two months later 4 puppies and a mama dog left on the street running in between cars and guess who stepped in once again these amazing women not only did they take the puppies but they took the mama dog also how amazing right.
So in two months just my experience with them they saved 8 lives and that’s just the ones I got to see.
These women are angels and work miracles every day. Wish more people could have the heart these women do so I definitely definitely recommend them please these women have dedicated their lives to saving dogs Please adopt, donate , anything you can do to help these amazing people keep saving animals. they are the real deal ❤️
Love this rescue they have the biggest hearts and save so many dogs!!! Wish there were more rescues out there like them!
I was blessed to get my two pups from Tess. They were professional and kind to work with and my pups have been nothing but a joy to have around. I would recommend to anyone to use them to adopt a pet.
In 2010 after we lost our first furbaby at age 16 we knew that we and our other pup needed another friend to make the family complete. While surfing the web I ran across this beauty (Foxy) and she happened to be under the care of Tess K9 Rescue. The wife, other pup and I piled in the car and drove down to San Antonio, Texas for a meet and greet. We met Sue, from the rescue, and Foxy who was absolutely gorgeous. Foxy was found feral hiding under a car and actually ended up acting that way for many years. Sue warned us that she wasn't leash trained and told us to take home the harness she was wearing. haha The meet and greet went great and Foxy (now Maya) has been the most wonderful, odd, loving soul ever. She will always have a special place in our heart as well as Tess K9 for saving her.
Since 2010 we have followed the fantastic work and dedication of Tess K9 Rescue. They have saved so many lives in an area of Texas that has a very high kill rate. Their perseverance through tough economic times, storms wrecking their rescue outdoor structures, personally transporting dogs from central Texas to New England, have been absolutely amazing to us. We don't know how they do it honestly. The wife and I genuinely believe in this rescue and donate the majority of our yearly donation budget to this rescue.
Tess K9 Rescue is a fantastic rescue. if you are looking for a furbaby or would like to donate to a great rescue please consider Tess K9 Rescue.

They help innocent animals get rescued from kill shelters. A lot of neglected and abused dogs out there, and Tess k9 rescue gives many of them a second chance in life.
